Nice way to start the weekend. Welcome Oskar to UConn Nation. Bleed blue
I like our pickups, but people seem to be underestimating how many points we're losing from this year's teamWe certainly need more than 10/10 combined from the position.
Reibe was really good when he still wanted to be here, it's clear something changed during the season.A lot of people (myself included) ignored the red flag of Reibes underwhelming senior year of high school. I agree with you Ruff.
Have you seen the size of him. It's hard to call him a 2.Landrew can probably play 2-4 here. A lot of people on the board seem to be thrown off by his size and think he's a 3/4 but he's always been a 2/3.
As you can see, I kind of think the kid will crash a bit in a relaxed system. He had some very nice game early and has nice touch around the rim, but also lacks a lot of the other stuff - his efficiency metrics are pretty brutal. Not a great finisher/dunker, defender, pick layer free throw shooter, is really unathletic. I tend to think the staff wasn't sad to see him go, especially if he had a loud camp.A lot of people (myself included) ignored the red flag of Reibes underwhelming senior year of high school. Right, tried doing some research on his recruitment but not much out there at all.OK, that's good to know, thanks. I just wonder why no one wanted him then. Maybe when they heard Hurley was after him they didn't bother to compete? I just keep hearing the big market is spares so it surprises me.
He outscored Bidunga, who was supposed to eat him alive, or some suchReibe was really good when he still wanted to be here, it's clear something changed during the season.
I'm with you that we still need a backup 4 and a guard who can play PG if needed. Then developmental guys to round it out.Landrew can probably play 2-4 here. A lot of people on the board seem to be thrown off by his size and think he's a 3/4 but he's always been a 2/3.
Joey CI'm talking myself into the fact that Reibe wasn't very effective end of year anyway so it won't be that hard for Giltay to exceed his production at the end of the season. But I tend to agree with the other guy who cautioned Giltay may not be as productive as Reibe was while Reed was out early in the year. Hope we're wrong. I admit I don't know anything about Giltay. Just basing my skepticism on the lack of interest from other major conferences. The only other school I heard connected to him was St. Louis. There was definitely interest in Hines and Reed before him. What's an example of a portal player no major conference team wanted who came to UConn and exceeded expectations? That would help me be more optimistic.
If you recall a game last year (on a weekend day I believe Jim Calhoun was in the stands and spoke to Dan Hurley immediately after the game as they were walking out. One of the things JC said about Reibe according to the Courant was "he needs to get his nose into the paint" referring to rebound position. We need that presence in the paint where drivers are thinking about slashing in there. Intimidation. A hallmark of Uconn teams has always been rebounding and shot blocking. I'm very happy with this incoming sophomore duo. I've seen Hines in action. Have to find some tape on Giltay. That’s the rub…….is he expecting to be here for a few years and develop (alongside Hines) or will either of them be impatient and transfer out. Hope expectations for both were set appropriately. Don’t want another Reibe situation next year.
But unfortunately that’s the reality with ANY pickup these days. Essentially a bunch of one year contracts with subsequent option years.
In the NBA, he's a 2. Just like Wade was a 2. Jaylen Brown is a 2. SGs in the NBA are huge. He's slightly heavier (but not fat) than Tyrese Martin, who is also a 2. That said, I suspect UConn S&C and nutrition might get him to about 225.Have you seen the size of him. It's hard to call him a 2.

We definitely need to start the season with a 10 man rotation if just to have a cushion in case someone gets hurt. Even on our deepest teams we never stuck with a 10 man rotation into conference play. The other reason is you don't know who is really ready for their role until they start trying to fill it. Having options helps.Based on the Borges article we are after a backup G, PF, C, and we just got the backup C. So are we really trending towards a 10 man rotation? Because We 100% need a quality backup G but we also really need a third big...
Silas 30 / County 10
Mullins 25 / Transfer 15
Ross 20 / Landrew 20
Nik 25 / Transfer 15
Hines 25 / Giltay 15
if we’re sticking with the usual 9 man rotation then the backup PF would be a koroma type.
Mullins and Nik will play 30, Hines will play 30 when he isn’t in foul trouble. Ross plays at least 25. I think the backup 4 will both be above a Koroma type but not necessarily a lock for the rotation. Yes, that's why I said a lot of people on the board seem to be thrown off by his size and think he's a 3/4 when his position has been a 2/3.Have you seen the size of him. It's hard to call him a 2.

I could live with that. Joey averaged 14.5 mpg, 2nd off the bench. If Giltay matches that it would be great. Harder to compare guards with bigs in terms of production but thanks!Joey C
Sounds like Koroma to me. Some games we needed him but most he didn't play.I think the backup 4 will both be above a Koroma type but not necessarily a lock for the rotation. Some games we'll need them, most games they're probably not playing
Go where? We are all making an assessment of the team and the poster rightly pointed out our front court is a significant downgrade from last years. That's not exactly controversial or even debatable, and it's a tad concerning IF we hope to contend this year. Somehow, that comment got your panties in a bunch? You can go, too.
Sure, but he's got a very different body type than those guys. This kid is thick and has a very thick base.In the NBA, he's a 2. Just like Wade was a 2. Jaylen Brown is a 2. SGs in the NBA are huge. He's slightly heavier (but not fat) than Tyrese Martin, who is also a 2. That said, I suspect UConn S&C and nutrition might get him to about 225.
Suspect Mullins/Silas/Khamenia play closer to 32 mpg. Hines will go 25-26. My guess is by end of year Landrew is starting at the 3.Mullins and Nik will play 30, Hines will play 30 when he isn’t in foul trouble. Ross plays at least 25. Landrew takes some minutes at the 4.
100% agree with this. We aren't getting any kind of stud to sign up to play 8 minutes behind a sophomore. Hurley never had a true 4 to backup AK either.I think the backup 4 will both be above a Koroma type but not necessarily a lock for the rotation. Some games we'll need them, most games they're probably not playing
Nick Timberlake? When’s the last time, in the portal era, that we hosted a transfer who DID NOT commit? Has it even happened?
I think we're a top 4 team in the country if we add another combo guard who can produce and another big guy. If not I would probably drop us down closer to #10, too many questions marks if we don't address those needs.I like our pickups, but people seem to be underestimating how many points we're losing from this year's team
Mullins and Nik will play 30, Hines will play 30 when he isn’t in foul trouble. Ross plays at least 25. Landrew takes some minutes at the 2/3/4.
We need be able to offer a quality backup G a 15mpg role like Smith had, so I don’t think we need lAndrew to play 3 positions when he can get 25mpg between both forward spots. 9 man rotation:I think the backup 4 will both be above a Koroma type but not necessarily a lock for the rotation. Some games we'll need them, most games they're probably not playing
No doubt. But he was pretty highly sought after right? So not a great comp for Giltay. Someone else offered Joey C which is a pretty good comp, but a quick search said Vandy was interested him. Not a big time program but SEC.I thought Cam Spencer exceeded expectations!
I wanted Graves from the beginning of the NCAAT, but he ain't coming to UConn. His price tag is ginormous. I am very pleased to have Khamenia because not only is he talented (top 15 HS recruit in 2025), but he will be really eager to produce and have a chip on his shoulder as he was underutilized at Duke.I would like us to go after Allen Graves from Santa Clara. He came off the bench for them. The question is... what is his price tag?
If Graves lands at Duke, we will really have to start wondering how big the NIL disparity is out there. I don't think he will as he's rumored to LSU with Duke behind him, but that would be insane as they would have 13 players with what would be fairly big NIL needs and what looks like easily a 20mm+ roster.I wanted Graves from the beginning of the NCAAT, but he ain't coming to UConn. The combo guard I'm with you on. I personally would be shooting for a Solo replacement like McNeil, but I know that's not happening. But I think we should be able to bring in a legit rotation guy there and still play County plenty of minutesWe need be able to offer a quality backup G a 15mpg role like Smith had, so I don’t think we need lAndrew to play 3 positions when he can get 25mpg between both forward spots:

The only games we needed him were because of injuries to Reed. I'm talking about a guy who will play occasionally even at full healthSounds like Koroma to me. Some games we needed him but most he didn't play.
Looks like 7-8 guys left in 247's SG list - not sure if any of these guys have handles. The combo guard I'm with you on.
