Oregon @ Southern California - 1/05/18

Has Jordan Adams been at USC for about 8 years now? It seems like it. I'm honestly shocked to see she's still there, I thought for sure she was a Sr. last year.

Ragged start. No score after 3 minutes.

Sabally goes coast to coast for the first hoop of the game and then USC answers right back. Okay, now they're ready to start playing ball.

I think Jordan got a 6th year from the NCAA. She played with KML at Mater Dei, but was younger.

LA is not being kind to the Oregon schools. The Ducks are turning it over about as frequently as OSU did. They aren't getting blown out but they look BAD so far. 12-7 USC w/ about a minute left in the 1st Q.

.-.
Oregon, the #9 ranked team in WCBB...scores 7 points in the first quarter??? Head shaker there!

Quality of play is picking up, teams trading buckets. 19-16 USC a couple minutes into the 2nd quarter.

Ducks kind of have momentum now, but still too many TO's and USC has hit enough timely 3's to cling to a narrow lead (22-21).

Oregon finally grabs the lead. They have 14 TO's and it's not even halftime. Only 3 players have scored for USC, and one of them only has 2 points. So those 2 that are doing all the scoring need a little more help.

Good 2nd Q for Oregon, up 29-24 at halftime. USC has done a terrible job of taking advantage of all those UO turnovers.

After a terrible 1st Q, Oregon is burning up the nets. If they can avoid a TO, they're scoring just about every possession. That's a big IF, though. 18 TO's and counting. 44-38 Oregon, 3 minutes left in Q3.

.-.
52-45 Oregon after 3Q. Simon came to life for USC. Ducks getting a lot out of their 3 guards.

USC has closed to within 1, about 6 minutes left. Graves calls a TO.

Oregon up 3, USC ball, inside 1 minute left.

.-.
Oregon wins 70-66. USC has some talent, but they're 0-3 in conference to start. The Pac 12 might be down a bit, but I think it's gonna be a knockdown, drag out brawl again this year. Not many easy games.

The games between the top 7 teams of the conference (Oregon, UCLA, Oregon St, Stanford, Cal, Arizona St, USC) will be good to watch.

Maybe Utah can creep up into this group.

Arizona clearly looks like they will be in the cellar. Not really sure how it will shake out w/ the Washington schools and Colorado. Cougs handled the Buffs fairly easily tonight as Hristova dropped a career high 36 points.

Nice job reporting on the game, @nwhoopfan

I thought USC might put up a nice fight at home.

This board has the UConn games covered obviously, and usually a number of members are tuned in to any SEC, ACC, Big 12, Big 10 games of note. I'll do what I can out here. I realize many don't have Pac 12 Network, and it's pretty late for any that aren't in Pacific time zone.

Arizona's RPI ranking is currently #317. I haven't been paying attention to it for that long, but I have never seen a Power 5 team finish outside the top 300 of the RPI.

I tell ya, Washington State's strength of schedule is such that they could have a decent chance at an NCAA tournament bid if they just go 7-9 in conference play and stay in the RPI top 50. That won't be at all easy, but the possibility is still out there.

Utah did give Arizona State all it can handle. They and Washington State are certainly within range and can give teams problems on a given night.

Just slightly OT, but I saw a quick preview of the WAC in the paper today. EVERY member of the conference is 300+ RPI after OOC. Holy cow! Have you ever heard of anything like that before? Kind of a shame to think any of those teams is gonna get an auto bid.

Surely they meant 200+? Highest is Seattle at #208 at the moment.

Apparently my eyes were a little blurry when I glanced at the article. They had the same numbers you posted, I just read it incorrectly. Every team 200+ is still bad, but not as bad.

If these numbers are correct, Chicago State has 51 straight losses, yet there are still about 25 teams or so ranked worse than they are? How can that be possible? 51 straight losses is almost two whole seasons. It will be by the end of this season if they don't win any.

Do you mean how is it possible that they've lost 51 straight, or how is it possible that there are some 25 teams ranked below them?

Chicago State hasn't won a game since February 4, 2016.

Obviously, the RPI doesn't reflect previous years' results. Their 0-15 record doesn't put them last in the RPI because they have a better strength of schedule (which is 75% of RPI) than the teams ranked behind them.
