Opening Day games of interest (11/6)

Just listened to Kim Mulkey's presser. Kim is very optimistic. Kim is singing the praises of Chloe Jackson (formerly with LSU) running the point. Kim is also very happy with the longer range shooting skills Baylor has this year. Now I'm really looking forward to the ASU vs Baylor game Sunday. ASU is a solid defensive team, so this "should" be an enjoyable game to watch, and measuring stick for both clubs.
I’m going to that game, but not with any expectation that ASU will give them a game, regardless of their doubling up Incarnate Word last night. I expect Baylor to trample all over a much smaller and less talented ASU team. I go to a few ASU games - don’t care one way another about ASU (except keeping up with Ekmark) but it’s a good opportunity to scout future/potential UConn opponents and see a few ranked teams. Of course these are usually from the PAC-12. Baylor is an unusual treat.

Rutgers set a program and B1G record pulling down 73 records in Tuesday’s night win. :)

At the risk of veering off topic (it's no longer Opening Day), I see that UCF scored a come-from-behind 61-58 win today at Pitt. Not one of the better "power 5" teams, but a win's a win...

I mentioned in a thread on today's games of interest.

I think the Pac-12 will be quite strong at the top (Oregon, Stanford, Oregon State, ASU) but mediocre to bad elsewhere. Basically how the ACC has been.
Thank you. Saved me posting the same thought.

Cal and the LA schools should be "middlin".

Utah and Colorado, don't really know, and Arizona better than they have been, which still may not be very good.

Wazzou and Washington, well . . .

Curious what you think will be the point spread? I think it will be within 10 points between the 2 teams (regardless of winner).

Looks like State is gonna pull one out vs Belmont........ a come from behind win.

Actually, Oregon did have a game last night--at Alaska-Fairbanks, of all places, so as to provide Ruthy Hebard with the opportunity to play in her home town. The score was 115-36, and there were 6 Ducks in double figures, led by Satou Sabally with 23 points. Ionescu had another triple double: 18 points (7-9), 11 rebounds, and 12 assists.

Nice article in the Washington Post about Ruthy Hebard's homecoming game:

FAIRBANKS, Alaska — It’s not unusual for big-time college basketball coaches to plan an early-season road trip somewhere exotic in hopes of bringing their team closer together. Often times, coaches will schedule games abroad or pit their team against high-caliber opponents as they try to replicate the feeling of March Madness in early November.
Kelly Graves, coach of the Oregon women’s basketball team, had other plans for the third-ranked team in the nation: a season opener just south of the Arctic Circle against a Division II squad that finished 4-22 last season.
But Graves’s decision wasn’t about X’s and O’s. He wanted to give star forward Ruthy Hebard, a Fairbanks native, one final game in front of her family, friends and former teammates.

If Arizona State ends up within 10 points of Baylor... I'll order a ASU I'll be surprised

I can't see ASU having any answer for Kalani Brown. She could get 35/20.

I haven't followed ASU much tbh. So I am not sure what to expect. That will be our 3rd game before the first week is up. So I'm ready to see what comes out. Jackson looked good as the point, but she is still no Morris. I just need Lauren to get going. She's been struggling a bit.

I heard in a recent interview with Kalani Brown that LC was having issues with her knees. Not sure how serious?

I think it's kinda like a tall people probs. Candace Parker has issues with hers also. However, nothing confirmed what kind of problems.

Only current injured player is DeCosta.

The Wallen sisters were a handful. Correction needed to be made :).
A further correction needs to made. There are three, count 'em , three Wallen sisters. Emma, Ivy, and Ella Wallen are triplets from Lauderdale County, Al. UNA recruited them out of high school, where a string of 9 straight state 3A titles in women's basketball were won. The triplets were on 4 straight championship teams, and at one point owned an 84 game unbeaten streak. Ella played last year in seven UNA games ,but was injured to end her season. She is not listed on this year's roster. Emma and Ivy were the offensive stars. Ella was a defensive standout in high school. Small town, BIG tradition! And for you music lovers, it is a stone's throw from Muscle Shoals , Al . :)

Wow, there have been a number of twins playing basketball together but I don't recall hearing about triplets.

They are all different ages but Washington St. currently has 3 sisters on their roster--the Molinas.
