Is there any way of determining the exact local (European) starting time of the game on November 4?
Weird timing with it being on a weekday
I would guess 2 or 4 pm Eastern
Would guess the game could also be played sometime during the day at Ramstein, taped and put on by ESPN in prime time for the CT and KY audiences.Time right now is indicated as TBA by ESPN but will likely be at U.S. friendly viewing time, meaning it will have a local evening start time. Check for an official announcement closer to the game on websites of ESPN, UConn and/or Louisville. Since the game will be played at Ramstein AFB their website may also be checked regarding the local start time for the game.
Noooooooooooo. That will absolutely not be done. In the social media era you are not going to show an event where everyone knows the outcome.Would guess the game could also be played sometime during the day at Ramstein, taped and put on by ESPN in prime time for the CT and KY audiences.
Not sure they want players or coaches going until 2 or 3 in the AM. I suppose they could try keeping them on US time while there, but presumably part of the value of this is for them to go to Germany, do some touristy things, which is harder if you’re having breakfast at 2 pm.Midnight Germsn time
I hear you, Vowelguy, because its not exactly great watching a game when you know the result. (Although I know I'm not the only one who has looked at this year's championship run more than a few times 😄) Try staying off social media? Good luck. After all of the banter on this, however, we will just have to wait to see what the powers that be at ESPN will decide to do.Noooooooooooo. That will absolutely not be done. The Olympics can sorta get away with that but even they have altered the coverage in recent years.
I can assure you it will NOT be tape delayed.I hear you, Vowelguy, because its not exactly great watching a game when you know the result. What's the general take on this, not what you'd necessarily would like, but what will take place?
a) Played at Ramstein at a late afternoon/evening hour there and carried live in morning/afternoon here or
b) Taped and put on at prime time - 8 EST/9 CST?
Yeah, lets make sure there is an angry host nation and no audience. This is very much a game to attract recruits, for Jeff and Geno and the NCAA in general. The game is where it is because Germany is spookily dangerous now, but Germany is still the host. Given the transportation system of Europe I would hope all sorts of European ballers will be in the stands. Not sure they want players or coaches going until 2 or 3 in the AM. Molinsanos, what is your source for this info? On the 4th of November, Ramstein AFB will be five hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time. Hence, 12 PM (i.e., noon) will be 7 AM back in Connecticut.12PM German time pretty much. But you can keep discussing about what time should be best...
We see from NFL games held in European cities that early morning EST kick-offs are the norm, so I would not be surprised if the same is holding true for WCBB games.
You know the urge to take a nap, the one that is so sneaky you don't realize it until after you wake up?Not sure what the problem is, most people here on the BY are old and retired anyway. What else you doing in the middle of the day?
Yep, not much historical data on college basketball games played at military installations overseas on Tuesdays, that's for sure.not on a Tuesday
Interesting if it is played at midnight - not many sports enthusiasts up at that hour - even in Germany. From my perch, that kinda defeats the purpose of holding a game there in the first place. If I'm not wrong if the game will be played at midnight in Germaby will be 6pm in Connecticut... And the game will be played at that time. 🤗
While I get an evening tip off is convenient for North American fans, how does playing at midnight entice fans in Germany to attend? If I'm not wrong if the game will be played at midnight in Germaby will be 6pm in Connecticut... And the game will be played at that time. 🤗
I hate Standard Time. Wish we could stay on Savings Time. While I get an evening tip off is convenient for North American fans, how does playing at midnight entice fans in Germany to attend?
Also, based on the history of this event, it's very unlikely the games will be played that late. For example, the 2017 at this same base between Texas Tech and West Virginia tipped off at 1 pm EST.

Texas A&M will open its 2017-18 campaign Friday in one of the most unique settings for college basketball as the No. 25 Aggies face 11th-ranked West Virginia in a converted hangar on Ramstein Air Base during the 2017 Armed Forces Classic.www.kbtx.com
DST ends first Sunday of November.Interesting if it is played at midnight - not many sports enthusiasts up at that hour - even in Germany. From my perch, that kinda defeats the purpose of holding a game there in the first place.
For what it's worth, since Daylight Savings Time in the USA ends the last week in October, Ramstein will only be five hours ahead of Connecticut on 04 November. A midnight tip-off would be 1900 (i.e., 7 pm) back on the East Coast.
Interesting, as I usually hear the opposite where I live in Canada. There are those who believe that DST doesn't offer any benefits contrary to the theory that is benefits farmers.I hate Standard Time. Wish we could stay on Savings Time.
