After Friday's game, Geno, in his comments to the student section, mentioned that there would be an open practice on Monday...he mentioned providing pizza so I suspect this is restricted to students and not the general public. Anybody have any additional information on this?

self update...tonight's open practice is limited to UConn student season ticket holders, but they are organizing an open practice for non-student season ticket holders as well...

FRO: spoke to him briefly after he talked with the students; today's open prac is students only but suggested there will be another for "you guys" :)

wow that is very cool. to Frodo - I read the student section was really lively and full in the exhibition game. have you been going in years past? have you noticed an increase in student support? do you think the interaction between the players, Geno, and the students has helped increase attendance and activity? do they promote the team on campus at all? just curious what the experience is like for students who are actually on campus every day...

BTW if anyone didn't see or hear about it, if you get to Gampel on game days early, up until about 40 minutes before tip off, you are allowed to go courtside to watch the warmups.

I recommend this if you want to be really impressed with Breanna Stewart's size and smoothness.

Don't know where you read that Eric, but the student section was not full. Still it was filled better than the section was filled the end of last yeat. We'll have to see if there is an increase in student attendance as the season goes on. The next game is at XL where the men drew 5500 yesterday. Few students should be at Wednesday's game but there this exciting team should draw better that 5500.

Not sure that I would say there were any more students there than a normal game, except that this was an exhibition against a team that promised to offer little, if any, resistance. Honestly, can't remember how the student crowd compared to past exhibition games, but some of the 'bigger' regular season games in past years both the lower and upper sections were filled...Friday there were few in the upper sections. All in all, though, I'd say it was a fairly good turnout.

Thanks Frodo For any and all students who may attend the practice!!! Please for the rest of us around the country and "Planet Earth" Post your inpressions and observations! We all want to hear what is going on. We definitely will be appreciative of this.

Eric your questions and comments re students is important to make every attempt to increase interest and attendance at games!

Increasing ways to get unused tickets by other season ticket holders made availabl is also important. These often are excellent seats that can end up going unused.

For those of us in other parts of the country SNY TV,streaming, and ESPN plus CBS is great! Other than if you also get the PAC 12 network we will have the opportunity to see 29 of the 30 regular season games, the BE Tournament, and the NCAA Tournament games hopefully culminating in the NC GAME!

I thought there were MANY more students than for the "average" opponent and nearly as much as for a top tier one.

MEYERS: you wanna know exactly what he meant about "you guys"....well, since he said it while looking at me, I gotta go with him meaning the old and decrepit (am headed for my first ever P.T. session tomorrow :) after my first session ever with a orthopedic guy ).

As for the "yuse guys".....you know, thinking back, I think that was exactly it. Good call, Meyers.....as is often the case with you.

Geno has done a GREAT job of "recruiting and keeping" student fannies in the seats. He raffles off x-boxes and other great swag after each game, personally pulling the winning ticket and presenting it to the winner. He always goes over and speaks to the students in the student section and gives them props for being there and being loud. His time and attention has paid off...the student section is growing in size and volume...offsetting and maybe inspiring, the "oldsters" in the crowd to participate in cheering for the team. I love it!

DUD: right on target....and kudos to both you AND Geno on this. Sadly, you are right also about most of the oldsters......but when I'm there (as always am for the EX games), I'm about as raucous as the student section, and proud of it.

Athletes feed off that kind of support, and alot of our old crocks can't seem to let their hair down.
On the other hand, perhaps they have just enjoyed normal maturation and left me in the dust with my child-like enthusiasms for certain things.....way high among those, Our Girls. (I'm even more outlandish when game time rolls around at Buzzards Crest; those who accompany me to the EX games plead with me not to bring the full package from the living room to the gym. Of course, they are very easily mortified.)
