Only top tier NBA programs are a step up from coaching the Huskies

I can name a number of coaches in college basketball that have long careers unlike the NBA coaches. Sure there are coaches like Jack Ramsey, Pat Reilly, Phil Jackson and others but look at college with Jim Calhoun, John Wooden, Knight, Coach K, and numerous others.
We understand you like the NBA better, but nothing matches the NCAA tournament for excitement in the opinion of many on here. Look at the numbers and they back me up.

Now you can go back to being miserable as usual.

Jerry Sloan, Lenny Wilkens, Larry Brown (the buffer in this example), George Karl and Greg Popovich to name a few off the top of my head.

You ignored the ratings I posted about which is more popular. Again a college coach can coach for one team for a very long time. While in the NBA that is no where's near as likely, nor will it be.

My guess is HCKO stays at Storrs, much to your disappointment of not going to the NBA

It's simple really - in college, the coach is the face of the program and has the power when head-butting with players. In the NBA, the players hold the power and coaches are largely expendable. I think college is clearly a better job (extra money notwithstanding), unless you reach Popovich/Phil Jackson untouchable status with your franchise. The fact that the quality of play is better doesn't make the job better. Spoelstra had to hang on for dear life to his job before getting two rings with the best player in the world. Brooks was in danger this year with the second best player in the world. And Barnes is still at Texas.

I'm a Knick and I wouldn't even play for Dolan. If had uverse in my area I'd ditch cable. Easily the worst owner in the NBA, well maybe the second thanks to you know who.

The Knicks didn't make the playoffs because they thought they were too cool for school. Show up some nights, Mike Woodson's affection for JR Smith's feelings, and a controlling owner in James Dolan who makes the most boneheaded decisions that an owner can possibly make. They will never win a championship if has any say in basketball decisions, and I've come to terms with that.

They very well may not work out to be successful in the NBA in the long run, but they're already in a league where they're competing with the best in the world.

I tend to totally agree with what you said. I do get that the main difference between Ollie and Pitino/Squid/Izzo is that Ollie actually had a 15 year NBA career (well, actually his 1st 2 years were in the CBA with the Connecticut Pride) while the other 3 have ZERO NBA playing experience between the 3 of them (of course there are other differences but I was looking at actual playing time in the NBA).

So for that reason alone, perhaps Ollie has a desire to go back to the NBA at some point. I would just add that while the NBA has the potential to pay bigger $, the highest paid NBA coach is Rivers (Clippers) at $7 million. Pitino makes $7.5 M while Cal is at $4.5 and Izzo surprisingly is at $1.75M. I don't blame Ollie for wanting more $, but I think it's ludicrous to think that the NBA overall pays more because it's just not true.

Pop gets $6 M, Thibideau and Carlisle both get over $4M, but the rest all earn between $2-4M per year. I'm sure they have bonuses just like college coaches do, but if Ollie actually gets up to $2.5-3 Mil excluding bonuses and what not, he'd be on par with over 80% of the current NBA coaches. So what's the draw for that really? One bad season and you are fired. Dealing with a bunch of mostly prima donnas. I just fail to see the allure.

Honestly don't think it's that crazy to say that the very top coaching positions in NCAA are better than many of the lower tier NBA jobs.

It's not about the quality of the basketball, or the talent of the players... we're talking solely about how good the job is in terms of the job attributes.

UConn will give Ollie around 2.6 mil. With other incentives he'll make around 3 mil. Should the Lakers offer Ollie it won't be 5 or 6 mil. With Ollie's coaching experience it would be around 4 mil.
Big question is would Ollie wish to turn his, and his family's life around for 4 mil, instead of 3 mil.

I'm biased but to me it seems college coaches are bigger stars are most notable in mainstream sports talk than all but a few NBA coaches.

I'm sure there is the aspect of challenging yourself against the very best players in the very best league but I think college coaches can leave a more iconic mark on a program.

No one is calling anyone a dope. And people really need to drop this "teaching boys to be men" because there are a number of them who don't go to college who turn out to be bigger role models than some who have gone to college. You don't have to be a college coach to teach someone to be man.

No dope intentions on anything you said. But lets's be honest teaching and mentoring is much more prevalent in college than it is in the NBA……..it happens in the NBA I am sure, but not nearly as much as a college coach can impact the whole roster.
