It can't be worse. I'm not sure why you conflate reality with anger. I'm not sure why you haven't learned from the last decade that simply deciding a player is good and will improve the team is at best pointless and at worst counter-productive.

Unlike so many in our 'fanbase' I don't abandon my teams just because they aren't good. But it's a great idea to encourage people to not follow the team because that's a winning strategy.

I'm hopeful that the next coach they hire is the right answer. I'm not going to pretend that the current situation is better than it is just because that's how you want to approach it.

Newsome, if PP and GDL gets fired and he decided to go to UMass (or wherever), might be a loss (in terms of recruiting CT), but if get a coach who can recruit 5 star players from Football hotbeds we might get a 4 star player who wasn't recruited as highly because his team went 4-6. I want more recruits from hotbed areas - a 4 star player from Vermont is like a 1 star player in Florida.
 
I love all this talk about "reality", as if something in the future can be defined as "reality". Reality is something that is happening in the present or has happened in the past.

Was it "reality" to think that we would go to the Fiesta Bowl after starting out 3-4??? I'm sure that many on this board who love to speak of "reality" did not imagine that specific reality that year.

So Sportsart is talking about a specific possibility in the future, and he's getting harassed for it. As if anyone here or elsewhere on the planet knows what the outcome will be! Newsome might come in here and literally tear it up on the field; he could even end up better than Donald Brown or Jordan Todman...who knows yet? All I know is that there are some special kids that have come out of Connecticut that can positively change a program's future....cough, cough, Orlovsky!, cough...and I choose to share Sportsart's vision of the future...

Last week I was a jerk for pointing
out that posters were taking Towson way too lightly. Today it's because I think it's premature to get overly excited about a player who hasn't even signed an LOI.

I don't claim to know what the outcome will be. I do know that naming yet another potential program savior, based
on prior results it's pretty unlikely.

It's pretty funny that I'm Mr Negative and I haven't given up as much on 2013 as all the Johnny Positives. I don't know if they will beat Maryland but I think it's going to be a lot closer than 99% of people at this point.

You can't wait to point out what you knew about the Towson game. That's the difference in your posts compared to others. Who gives a shart that you felt we were taking Towson too light. Atta boy...

Can't wait? I waited 4 days to point it out so I guess I was pretty patient. I don't care if you listen to me or respect my opinion, but if I get attacked for an opinion that was clearly correct I'm going to remind you the next time I'm being attacked.

Who is the angry one? Highjacked topic? Pointing out in a thread naming yet another savior that these threads have been ridiculous beyond belief is not off-topic.

WE have a significant talent gap to the top tier programs. I do not believe the gap to programs like rutgers, Pitt, BC, Maryland, most of the teams in the AAC, or even most of the teams in the NCAA, is as significant. We do have a disadvantage of recruiting grounds. A new coach will not get us into the CFB playoff. But a new coach recruiting at a similar level to Pasqualoni and Edsall can absolutely get UConn 7, 8, 9 wins in year 2 or year 3. If you do not believe that, maybe it's time to find some interests other than UConn football.

Well, if you are counting me as one of the Johnny Positives that has given up on the season, you've got another thing coming.

And sometimes, it's best to step back from the keyboard before hitting the "post reply" button, and say to yourself, "Self, am I being a on this one?" It was more than painfully clear what Sportsart was saying in this thread, hence the friggin' title. Do we need the probabilities of whether Newsome will be the next great running back? Do we need the Vegas odds on it? Did anyone ask you for it? I'm sure you know what the answers are to those questions.

By the way, I would love to know which posters gave you a hard time about respecting Towson, because I'm pretty sure it wasn't Sportsart...

As for your questions - are we only allowed to post when someone asks us a direct question?

I struggle to wrap my head around why people don't get that anointing saviors doesn't work and we'd all be better off if it would stop but by all means - I won't point it out the next time a poster decides a player who isn't even on the team is the next great thing. For some reason people can't let the kid's breathe, but I guess the dozen examples aren't enough.

Obviously we are closer to say Syracuse than Syracuse is to Alabama.

2013 UConn has a gap to 2011 and 2012 UConn. That's a huge problem and that's probably going to take 2-3 classes to fix. Maybe they hit the lottery and hire a savant - but I can't even think of an example where that happened.

There's no debating, arguing or discussing anything with Whaler11. I've been wrong on more than one occasion on this board and have said so. Some people fight to the end no matter what.

Fair enough about Towson. As for making mistakes....I can't remember the last time I was right on one of my 13-0 predictions either, so we're both in the same club. It should go on the record though that I have been right about the men's basketball team being National Champions three times already, so I've got THAT going for me... ;)

Bottom line: Newsome is a very promising prospect and I hope he absolutely tears it up in national flag blue. There's no reason not to believe in the future...

I have not 'pooh poohed' this kid at all. He isn't on the team. He hasn't signed an LOI. When you have a coaching change you generally experience turnover with your class. He's got a good reputation and is pretty highly regarded. So not only does he have to be good - they have the challenge of him ever enrolling. It's like being excited about a lottery ticket. You can pick any player who's verballed to any school and start the same thread. There is no point.

So I realize some of my posts are douchy. You must realize some of your posts are ridiculous - shouldn't you think about hitting send?

If questioning whether a highly ranked recruit will back out of his verbal on a thread that is dedicated to him is not considered "poo-pooing", or if stating that the odds are highly against him being great is not considered "poo-pooing", then I take it all back. Do you think I should take it all back, now that I've spelled it out like that?

And yes, I do realize that some of my posts are ridiculous. Mostly ridiculous in a positive sense, though, and that's why I ultimately hit the "send" button. I don't mind being ridiculous if it is in support of my school, its athletic programs, or its fans...

Don't think I don't like and respect your opinion Dan. Even though I drive you crazy I still listen to what you say. Same with Art. I might aggressively debate with you guys but I know you are on the right side of the battle and just want UConn to win.

Fair enough. Not trying to put the weight of the world on the kid's shoulders. Just want to show that we're happy he chose to be a Husky and we're excited about his arrival and his skill sets.

As for us, I always know who to go to if I need a Vegas number on a game or who I should take in an over-under scenario. We had just gone a long time without a battle, so maybe the football gods simply willed this one for us...

You do realize they all go to the same camps and looked at by the same evaluators. So not sure how much water your comment about 4 stars here are not the same as 2 stars from the south.

Because they smartened up and made a great coaching hire... their recruiting is off the wall. Yes they are Michigan but we can surely find a coach that will keep us at the top of the AAC and thus the top of the conference realignment pool. This next hire is going to be very important but all is not lost for UConn. These same players can be coached up correctly and a better scheme can be put in place that works to their strengths. We lost to Towson, and from 50 + points I saw Michigan and Maryland put up its likely we will be seeing more ugly. Those will be two more nails in the PP era. This year (including the rest of this season) is ROCK BOTTOM mark my words...

We're not Michigan. Rich Rod recruited at a high level, they had 4 star guys all over the place. Hoke stepped into a no lose situation, this isn't a no lose situation, and we're not Michigan.

Whaler - art is trying to find a reason to stay positive. He's not saying newsome, or a fresh new coach will turn things around in 1 year. Isn't it safe to assume that from a regular poster?

The situation is obvious ... Does he need to preface every post with "I know 1 new player or an entire new coaching staff won't solve this train wreck over night, but ..."

It's a message board ... Opinions can't be wrong ...
