Toronto used to be split up into 6 boroughs.

Kinda.

You always had the City of Toronto which was surrounded by smaller cities/towns/municipalities, or whatever you want to call them, to form Metro Toronto.

In the late 60's or early 70's, they combined about a dozen of them into six larger municipalities. It was Toronto, York, a couple of other Yorks and another place I can't remember. Then in the 90's, they just melded them all together to form the new City of Toronto. Eventually, they elected a crack addict to be mayor and that's where I kinda lost track of things.

Oh, and we burned it down during the War of 1812. And I have no idea why they call it the 6.
