Interesting take that that you think AD David Benedict might be done shortly after winning a MBB natty, the holy grail of sports at UConn. Not sure what form imploding takes either. Is 2-10 or 3-9 an implosion? I kinda think so, but I am not sure the powers that be share your thoughts on root cause.

Of course the problem is the institution's own money cannot go to NIL. So the students are protected from ever higher subsidies. And if we are talking about collective money. where do you think FB ranks in the rack and stack? Pretty obviously third. Heck, we even saw hockey players in an advert during the SHU broadcast.

Anyone can act like they care, and words don't get you a break with me. That having been said, I give him a break for this year because of how much above expectations year one was. But am I concerned that he came here expecting to be coaching at a P-whatever team and doesn't have a plan to be a competent eastern independent? Damn right.

I don't think anyone will have that plan going forward. Army of all programs just ran away from independence. A program that found conference USA too tough to compete in and opted to schedule 2 FCS opponents just said Independence is not sustainable going forward. I have never felt this way til now. We are up scheets creek here.

He also just said you could hire Bear Bryant and it would make no difference so i will pull a Lee Corso and tell you, "not so fast my friend". Those 2 may be attached at the hip, though i hope to be wrong about that.

To be fair, Charlton had some nice wins at Maine. He progressed there and had some success. He took a step back from HC to take OC position at better program.

Sometimes these things don’t workout for various reasons.

What I didn’t hear was “we have to accept responsibility as coaches,” which makes me worry about whether we’ll see the changes we need to see.

We don't need more money to get a talented OC. He is already paid as well or better than a lot of other teams that do way better. He is paid almost as much as the head coach for JMU.

Everything he said is 100% true and accurate and all rooted in the fact that this state, and our alumni by and large (at least the ones with firepower) simply DOES NOT take football seriously.

And that's gotta change otherwise you may as well either disband the whole program or just drop back to FCS. But we HAVE to make a decision because this whistling through the graveyard routine just IS NOT CUTTING IT.

I think UConn is trying to be competitive with mid tier P5 schools (if not, why are we scheduling 3 to 4 P5 schools per year?). Just ball parking based on the Front Office Sports article, it seems UConn boosters should be targeting ~$1.5 million of NIL for football: 24 starters (21 O and D plus punter, kicker, LS) at $25k each comes to $600k, $250k for starting QB, $100k for back up QB, $300k extra for top performers, $250k for the rest of the roster.

So everyone who wants a different OC should probably realize that if that is done, UConn will be back to running plain vanilla plays for half a year. Whole new playbook. That's what happens. No one is gonna come in and run the old playbook. That's not how it works.

Exactly. The poor performance this year is not because the cupboard is bare. It's because the coaching sucks.

JMU doesn't even give the full amount of scholarships, had hardly any portal action, and it's classes are all around ranked less than ours by a lot. Their coaches get paid a third of what ours do too. Coaching talent was the difference in that game, not player talent.

Have to remind you of the old adage. It's not about the x's and o's, it's about the Jimmies and the Joes.

This weekend's action features #129 UConn visiting #127 UMass. Really, why are either of these schools continuing in FBS? We're not getting into a P5 conference and have been cast into the role of easy early- or mid-season walk-over win for more serious football schools. It's been this way since the end of the Edsall 1.0 era. Let's get real.

But was Georgia state really that much more talented? FIU? Utah State? USF?

It's convenient he talks about not winning the "big" ones yet refuses to acknowledge that he hasn't been beating anyone this year. Because his coaching has stunk.

To me it seems Mora may be setting up his next move which could be to step down, otherwise why bring up last year. He is right on the NIL needs and he may feel that he was blown off last year. I guess we will know on 11/25 or 26th. Hopefully all changes will be announced quickly.

Yeah, coaching and coaching staff did not come up at all today. And a loss to UMass will bring more heat. It is all so distasteful but nothing new for football at any D1 school at most places most years. Setting money on fire for limited returns. It is why only about 60 schools should be all in on football.
