United Technologies Corp. and the State of Connecticut extended a naming rights agreement in more ways than one Thursday. An original agreement struck in 2000 ran through 2018; this one runs through 2030. And the naming rights extends the name, from Rentschler Field to Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field.
As part of the new agreement UTC also will give the state 10 acres of land for additional parking at the stadium as well as provide an easement for the use of 15 acres adjacent to existing stadium parking.
The stadium will gain about 2,500 parking spaces, according to Chris Lawrence of Global Spectrum, which operates the XL Center in Hartford as well as UConn’s football home in East Hartford. Lawrence is the general manager of both venues. The stadium now has 9,000 spaces.
“The additional parking will allow us to utilize more space for larger events,” Lawrence said. “There are two different locations, the majority of which is increasing some of the existing lots.”
