All the focus has been on the United States, which has already qualified, but two former Huskies are trying to join them and had good starts to those efforts today:

The rest of the games will be played on Saturday and Sunday and can be seen on ESPN+.

What UCONN Players trying to join the team had good stats? All I could see was Samuelson with all 0's. Diggins scored a lot, as did Gray, Atkins and Ogwumike. I couldn't find a box score...

United States vs. Serbia 88-69 USA Wilson 16/7r Diggins 15 Griner 14/6r Fowles 10/6r Stewart 9 Gray 8 Atkins 8 Ogwumike 6 Mitchell 2 Bird 0/8a Loyd 0/8a Samuelson 0

Not for the US team but meaningful games. France (Hartley) and Canada (Nurse) excelled in what I imagine must be upsets.

Group Standings after 1 Game. Top 3 Teams in each Group make the Olympics.

It seems likely that three teams, possibly four, will have losing records in this tournament and qualify for the Olympics.

I saw that, but the post i was replying to said "two former Huskies are trying to join them and had good starts to those efforts today"

Unless people think Stewie and Sue aren't locks for the team.

Sorry, I meant it the way that @eebmg interpreted it, but I can see how it could have been read the way that you did.

Did Brazil not make it? They finished 0-3 in this tournament. Or were they already in?

Katie Lou did a great job in crunch time to get them ahead of Nigeria. Some timely threes, nice passing and defense. Sue definitely seemed rattled and was quite chatty with her defender all game. Breanna didn’t dress for the game.

Sue started doing some highstepping running on the break. Not a great look imho. I guess to try to get her own energy level up? To tick off her opponent? Chelsey rubbing off?

I loves how Hughes and Reeves let them play and mixed up the combinations. Katie Lou got some minutes up til that point but she really showed up for them today.

Does Great Britain have a shot of getting in or are they completely out of contention?

It was tough watching Belgium v Canada as I do love me some Kia but holy jeez does Meesseman make you want to cheer for her.

Emma is easy to like. The Mystics are my local club, and the only thing I hold against her is playing for her national team rather than the Mystics a couple of years ago. (Just kidding)

You gotta be impressed by someone who's fluent in at least three languages when she's severely hearing impaired.

Article on Lou and Team USA
Although more people will be more familiar with the traditional national team, Samuelson is also vying for a spot on the 3-by-3 national team, which will debut as a medal sport in Tokyo. She is headed to the training camp in Chicago immediately, where she is hoping to be one of four selected from a group of 11 that will compete from March 18-22 at the Olympic qualifier in Bengalaru, India. Eight teams will compose the field for the Olympics, and the U.S.’s qualifying group boasts France, Germany, Uruguay, and Indonesia.

Not sure Lou's game translates well to 3 x 3. Lou is so good in transition environment and set up 3. 3 x 3 is such close quarters. Ideally, you need to develop a 2 man game (Lou + Pheesa or Gabby for example) but with such limited practice, I do not see it. Hope I am too cynical.

I believe that Lou, Phee, Arike, and De'Janae Boykin won a FIBA Gold Medal in 3x3.
I think Lou won 2 Gold medals in 3 x 3. One in Indonesia the other in China.

Lou's USA Bio---USA Basketball: Has won five gold medals competing for Team USA (2014 Youth Olympic Games, 2014 FIBA U17 World Championship, 2013 FIBA Americas U16 Championship, 2013 FIBA 3x3 U18 World Championship, 2013 FIBA Americas 3x3 U18 Championship)
