For those who may not delve into the '17 - '18 recruit thread....

Geno watched Nelson-Ododa score 27 points on Thursday (12/8).

Junior center Olivia Nelson-Ododa caused the main damage, scoring 27 points (including 11 in the second quarter) and wreaking defensive havoc on the other end of the floor.

...

Nelson-Ododa’s performance, in particular, came at a good time as legendary UConn women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma was in the stands scouting.
“It was a big thrill for Olivia and she had a great night for us offensively and defensively,” Thomas said.

It's really good to know that Geno has an eye on Ododa even after Charli's commitment. I'm afraid to even dream of a Husky team featuring those two. I think they can play together, Charli as a true post and Oliver as an all-over-the-floor player, and nightmare for opponents.

ONO's team won their first game by 89-14 and then lost 3 games in a row. How did her team lose??

That's a really good question. But it's high-school basketball, strange things happen, and sometimes basketball doesn't happen. This makes Geno's job in evaluating talent extremely difficult. A novice will miss good talent, or overvalue an ordinary performance. But we've got Geno, and they haven't.

I've got to think it was a combination of things, like really good opposition (one team played them 2x in that stretch), foul trouble, or inability to handle a press.
