My first phish was 87 at living room in providence where they filled in for max creek on a Wednesday night. 12 people in room. 4 dollar admission :)
First Phish show was 9/22/88 at the Campus Pub at SUNY-Binghamton. Opened with McGrupp, Y.E.M. and finished that first set with David Bowie. Maybe 50 people there. I was instantly hooked. Saw them later that year at The Front in Burlington.

I was stunned how much I enjoyed Toto when they opened for Boz a few years ago. We'll be there when they open for Journey. It'll be the last stop on the tour.
Jeff Porcaro (Hartford born) was arguably the most musically talented Porcaro brother in Toto. The guy was a drumming prodigy and was possibly the most prolific studio drummer for two decades. He died way too young. As a Steely Dan nerd, I often listen to his amazing contributions on Pretzel Logic, Katy Lied and Gaucho.

Billy Joel is great; a huge sing-along with a bunch of drunk moms. I love his "I'm not gonna play any new crap...because I don't have any" spiel. He always delivers, especially at MSG.
Seen him twice, first time many moons ago in NH, can't recall if late 70s or early 80s. He was a bit immature at the time. Apparently had some gas and kept noting when he farted. Second time was better - bigger band, just more professional all around, but I really didn't care about the whole "Uptown Girl" era.

Mark Rivera is one of the better Swiss Army Knives in the business. Still sad about Billy kicking out Liberty though.

How about a member of an old but famous band?

Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets is playing the Capitol Theater in Port Chester, NY in September (was rescheduled from January). His band plays spectacular, modern renditions of pre-Dark Side of the Moon Pink Floyd songs.

I have a ticket - definitely worth seeing.

My last Springsteen tour was The River at MSG and I almost missed my train home because he played so long. I was exhausted watching him.
Didn't see your post 4 years ago before the bump, but IIRC, that was a multi-night stand. That it was a "Christmas" show made it even more special. The night I went they did play well past when last trains left for CT. While I had my car, my heater took a looooong time to warm up. And it was 8 degrees outside when the show finally ended after 2am. Twas an unpleasant 20 minutes until the heat kicked in somewhere around Pelham. But that show spoiled me for the later Springsteen shows I went to, and those just didn't compare.

Didn't know Nick was touring. I would go see that... until I looked up pricing for the Pittsburgh show, which is in a beautiful old theatre downtown. Pretty much everything other than back rows in balcony well over $100. I didn't love Echoes that much.

The best way to check out bands is to hop on youtube and check out the latest performances. That way you can see when they last played, how many original members are still with the band and how good the band sounds.

I’m a ‘92 first show Phish guy but 150ish deep since then. Taking my Mother to Hartford this summer with my three kids. Should be fun.

Random: love Creek - have so many fun memories at Creek shows back in the day.

Psychedelic Furs. I know, you would never think so - they had that one song in the '80s? These guys have been grinding for years and it shows in their skill, I've been to a lot of concerts (just got back from Phish in MX) and seeing them in 2012 was a highlight. Honestly any low\mid grade band that is still playing has a high chance of being fun based on the ones I've seen (Dinosaur Jr and OMD come to mind) - it's not like these big name guys who just show up every once and a while and bank on their name.

KISS. Saw them a few years back as a laugh... and while they might be grandpa aged they put on an excellent show. My wife was like why did you buy these tickets?! And had a blast.

My spring/summer includes Elton John, Rod Stewart & Cheap Trick, Blondie, Elvis Costello and now Van,

Have seen a lot of older artists in recent years. Bob Seger was good. Fleetwood Mac minus Buckingham was still good. John Fogerty was fantastic. Flogging Molly was good. Squeeze was good. Hall & Oates were ok. Pixies were good. Violent Femmes were very good. Queen with Adam Lambert was good. Even Kiss was decent.

I’ve seen Joe Jackson many times over the years. Last time was summer 2018 at Stamford’s Wednesday Night Live in Columbus Park. The guy still has it. His range is amazing and he nails covers of artists he respects. I’ve seen him cover Steely Dan’s “King of the World” in Tel Aviv and “Night by Night” in San Francisco.

Over the last decade, I’ve seen Steely Dan many times in residence at the Beacon, and at the Cap in Port Chester, Greenwich Town Party. It’s not the same without Walter, and Fagen’s range continues to narrow every year to the point where the fantastic backup singers do the heavy lifting vocally. But… Donald and his huge band of specialists still sound great.

Dang would love to see the Femmes even now. Saw H&O a few years back and it was decent but Hall isn't able to hit all the notes anymore.

I've been a fan of Steely Dan ever since I saw them at the Waterbury Palace in 1974 which was my first concert. My second was Queen and Mott the Hoople a month later at the palace. I have seen Steely Dan 5 or 6 times since then and will try to go see them this summer even though Walter has passed and Fagen's voice has declined.

Guess you didn't listen to WLIR-FM back then. The Furs had lots of songs in heavy rotation there. "Heaven", "Pretty in Pink", "Heartbreak Beat", "Love My Way", "All That Money Wants", "House", "Until She Comes".

Only two original members (Richard and Tim Butler), but the rest of this incarnation of the band, except the drummer, have been together since 2009. I'd probably go see them if they played here.

I've only been to about half the shows that you have attended but agree that each is special. The shows may lack some of what they had in the early days and it was tough to lose Clarence and Danny but I still have a great time. I last saw the full band in 2016 at MetLife when he played about 4 hours. I was in the second part of the Pit so my legs were pretty shot at the end of the night but still worth it to hear "Incident on 57th Street", "Jungleland" and "New York City Serenade" all during the same show. A few months before that I saw the band in Brooklyn a few nights after Prince died. Their rendition of "Purple Rain" was fantastic to my ears. So hopefully, they will be on the road soon so I can see them again even though Bruce is pushing 73.

I also saw Nils Lofgren perform with his band at Theordore's in Springfield and at BB Kings in NYC before it closed. Nils is a great guy and very friendly to the fans as well as a special guitarist.

Could always count on 92.7 to get my Depeche Mode and New Order fix!

Exactly. A prolific band for sure. Go see them if they come around, they're tight. Also recently saw Howard Jones, he also put on a very good show and remains quite solid.

Brother Steve is still playing with them. He made it a point to say "I'm from Connecticut and I'm proud to be from Connecticut"! I liked hearing that.

Did he say that while playing a gig in CT or New England?

Of course, as he was talking about the family on hand for the show. Even so, when's the last time you heard anyone say that anywhere?

Can concur with Walsh and Wilson from recent shows but I would bump Trick up a notch. I didn't see them so long ago and I thought Zander could still belt it. I want to see them again but I'm not going to see Rod Stewart at gunpoint.
