I have tempered my expectations for TO. Previous posts were correct. He was brought in to be a role player, not a starter. I wish we could get more productivity from the 5 spot, but I think TO is doing the best job he can. No sense in beating him up for his god given limitations. He tries hard when he is out there. Sometimes it produces better results than others.

At this stage I am just happy that he takes up space out there and tries to slow down their big men.

That's the extreme and a little off as well as harsh. Whether you like it or not his 16 and 9 against a Div 1 team Notre Dame (perfect match up for him but nonetheless) happened and he led us to win.......therefore he is not as bad as your criticisms of his ability.

The disadvantage of print(posting) is that the emotion involved can often be misinterpreted. My intent was an honest appraisal(which is nothing more than my opinion). Certainly not a "harsh" attack(for lack of a better word). In fact, I have, at times this season, thought that he could be simply bottoming out in terms of his adjustment to high level college hoops.I believe I did read somewhere that sophomore year can be a "crash and burn" experience for a fairly large number of players as they learn to/decide to buy in to what is being taught to/demanded of them by the coaching staff.

Would it surprise me if a totally different/much improved Tyler Olander showed up next season? Not at all. I am, however, still concerned that he seems to lack some of the basics for a big man at this level. Which is why I mentioned rebounding positioning. Could simply be part of the learning curve; and nobody would be happier, given our dire need at the 4 & 5, to see a very different and much better Tyler Olander next season than me.

GO HUSKIES!!! BEAT THE HOYAS!!!

TO is clearly outmatched athletically and it doesn't help that he is playing outside of his natural position. That said, he should at least be able to draw some offensive fouls or even throw a couple of hard blocking fouls in effort to help negate Boat's defense and make opposing guards think twice about taking it to the rim. Most of his fouls and subsequent foul troubles are pretty weak and mindless. He should also have been able to show at least SOME improvement as the year has progressed and sadly his curve has been anything other than trending upwards.

Do something out there - take a charge, block a shot, perhaps an offensive rebound. Its like 4 on 5 when he is out there
I'm thinking his diet may be an issue. I don't doubt his work ethic, or KO wouldn't be so gracious with his minutes played. I just find it difficult to believe a D1 athlete can fall as far out of shape as TO seems to be, without consuming many more poor calories than he's capable of burning. The guy lumbers along when he shouldn't. He's clearly put on some lbs, but they've done little to help his game...in fact, it seems they've hurt it. He seems like he's moving in slow-motion out there. BTW...long time lurker here...hate that my initial post has such a negative slant, but Tyler's apparent regression has really stuck in my craw. It's frustrating, because I doubt he'd labor nearly as much if he were even 10 lbs lighter.

The whole team struggles to go get rebounds, it has to come right to us and even then we might fumble it. Tyler too often goes to double on D, then doesn't have any effect, so that his man catches a pass for an easy layup. He'd be better off boxing his man out. I can't question effort as he's giving us what he can. This team is succeeding because everyone is so bought into the team first concept and Tyler is a great example of that. Just doing the dirty work as needed.

also, a lot of the rebounds the guards get are the result of olander or formerly wolf boxing everyone out so they can run in and scoop it
