Tyler won that game for us. We were up 17, playing great and then Shabazz had the bonehead technical and we lost our composure. Tyler came in and got some tough rebounds and his three is the reason we won the game. We showed how talented we are and then completely lost our composure. Ollie definitely has some lessons to teach them after this one, we were lucky to win. Without Olander we don't win that one, props to Tyler.

I think you were looking for a different 8-letter "B" word. Strange autocorrect from bull poop to "bonehead."

In seriousness, that's a call that never should be made. JC would have ripped the official a new one and earned us a few makeup calls to correct the injustice.

Ollie has some lessons to learn himself.

Sitting Giffey for as long as he did in the 2nd half was nonsensical. His rotations could definitely use some work.

I don't think TO won the game, but he did save the game, big difference, he was the hero.

Of course, if he missed a three in that spot the criticism would be merciless, and justified. Why is Tyler taking a three here? Because it went in, that's why.

Tyler has a nice stroke. He can take an open 3 any time in my opinion. That's his game u gotta let him play it.

Tyler Olander was 1-10 in his career from 3 over his first three seasons. Not sure how "that's his game." Whatever, it went in.

I don't know his exact stats but that shocks me. I always thought he had a nice stroke. Anyway he proved u wrong tonight and I think were both glad for that.

Had to. Shot clock was down to 4 or 5 seconds and there was nobody to swing the ball to. Would have more been Boat's fault for passing it to him instead of taking a floater - but I'd have forgiven Boat if he thought maybe he was passing to Giffey, since, you know.

Had he missed, I might've criticized him for standing out there instead of coming in to 15-17 feet - but there's floor spacing issues to worry about trying to keep the paint less clogged, so that might have been where he's supposed to stand.

His 3 was definitely clutch.
He also had a nice sequence of plays before that: defensive rebound and then an offensive rebound->kickout assist which resulted in another 3.
I am baffled as to why he sat most or all of the 1st half.

Nolan played well at the start, and Brimah was awesome backing him up. Nowhere to find minutes for him. In the second half, foul trouble got to both Nolan and Brimah, and TO, to his credit, was ready and stepped up.

Olander was great. I screamed at the top of my lungs to not take that 3, but I'm glad he didn't listen.

Experience trumps talent. Our kids were frozen out there, but Tyler runs on anti-freeze.

Have you ever seen him sweat?

from shabazz
"It wasn't like I swore or anything like that," he said. "I was saying to myself, 'That's what I do best' after the play. I apologized to the team."

And I hope the team told him there was no need to apologize.

Okay...saw the game this morning and that trey by TO...just wow. Saw that he was out on the wing alot while in there. Is this going to be the way it goes with him? Anyway, my DVR stopped at the 2 hour mark (thought I set it for the extra 30 minutes) and missed the missed free throws and if TO snagged any rbs. But that trey was like a Christmas gift that you found on January 3rd and never opened on Christmas Day.

Tyler was more a face the basket forward in high school. He's been playing inside because that's where we've needed him to play.

Also.....we had a 2 pt lead when Tyler his his 3 to stretch it to 5. Yes, those were our last points, but you don't know what would have transpired after that had the score been even closer.

I agree that TO helped save that game. If he had a 12/10 double/double, then I might say he won that game for us. The nice thing now is, we have other options besides TO.

In addition to the three, he had a critical defensive rebound, two steals and a great assist. And he didn't make and mistakes on the defensive end. Overall a great nine minutes of play during a crucial point in the game. He wasn't a stat filler, but a critical player at a critical time.

If UConn had a polished 5 who was a serious scoring threat on the offense and capable of covering mistakes on the defensive end, such as EO, TO could provide great minutes at the four and UConn could run a lot of offense through him. But with the 5's (Nolan and Brimah) still learning, DD and NG are needed in the lineup at the 4.

It's true then ;) that TO got the message. Our 5s may hold their collective grounds just fine or surprise us as the time goes by!

Ollie On Olander: 'He Understands It's The Last Chance'
Kevin Ollie shakes hands at the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce monthly… (DOM AMORE, Hartford Courant )
October 08, 2013|By DOM AMORE, damore@courant.com, The Hartford Courant
CROMWELL — Coach Kevin Ollie saw enough to reinstate Tyler Olander to the UConn basketball team, but he made it clear that he will excuse no more off-the-court problems.

"He understands that it's the last chance," Ollie said Tuesday after speaking at the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce monthly breakfast. "There can't be any more. He understands that, and I think he is changing as a person. Hopefully, his judgments are changing. … He's not going to be sitting any games unless I see something again and then he'll be sitting all the games."
