Am I missing something with ole miss. I'm surprised they are so high. On the flip side I'm surprised Auburn is so low

Wow, Arkansas picked dead last? How long can Neighbors survive there? Gotta be on thin ice.

That’s the media poll, not the sec coaches poll. Many sec region media member know very little about wbb

This is when Coach Neighbors is at his best, when folks underestimate him and his teams.

He is? He's had talent at Arkansas, overall has underachieved I'd say. Trend the last 3 seasons isn't particularly good.

Ole Miss with Coach Yo? Yeah, you missing out.

The portal was quite unkind to him this year
True. The portal did not create the kind of buzz fans and friends of Coach Neighbors usually like to see and hear but knowing that he was able to get Izzy Higginbottom, we are pretty happy with the way things worked out. Plus, I like what I have been hearing about & seeing from a few freshmen players Paananen and Bates. But it all depends on what the players have done over the summer and leading into Fall workouts.

I like Coach Yo and they've been pretty consistent. I like KTW and Madison Scott. I also just remembered they get KK Deans back from injury. But IDK, SEC is tough and they lost Marquesha Davis to the draft. I really like Alabama, Auburn, and Tennessee. I was surprised to see them above those teams.

Just like last year I think there are clear groupings of teams with a large gap between the top tier (South Carolina, Texas, LSU and Oklahoma) and the rest of the SEC. In my mind, the first four teams are sweet 16 candidates and then from Ole Miss to Auburn it's basically a coin flip on the pecking order. Those are the teams in the fuzzy tier of "better than average but not quite top 25". Ole Miss gets the benefit of the doubt since Coach Yo tends to exceed expectations. They've built that reputation over the past few years, so the media will lean into it.

Seems like they are a bit slow with the uploads from sec media day but love this quote

I kinda feel like Texas is a sleeping giant.

Texas is not a sleeping giant..they are a well-known commodity and it will be interesting to see them with a "target on their back" this year as all the other SEC schools are well aware of the talent the Longhorns have. Very few teams can handle getting the best of everyone else every night. SC has done well recently, LSU struggled mightily last year with it, Iowa did ok last year and UConn had previously done well but recent years have shown UConn struggle in the big games during the regular season (albeit injuries or young players).

To me, only SC has both the talent, coaching and experience of being a "targeted team" to be as highly ranked as they are, all the other teams have some concerns in those categories, including UConn who are still a very young and inexperienced team to start the year.

The #2 ranking is pure folly as it is supposed to represent the "current" state/week of skill and NO WAY is UConn #2 right now, too many unknowns with new players, new roles and players returning from injury. I expect them to be in the discussion at the end of the year as the team has always improved but right now, this is not the #2 team in the country.

From an SEC perspective, I like SC, LSU, Texas, Oklahoma. as the top 4 and from a "national" ranking
#1. SC
#2 LSU
#3 USC
#4 Texas
#4 UConn
#6 ND
#7 UCLA
#8 Oklahoma
#9 NC State
#10 Iowa State

I think Nebraska could surprise many people this year and jump into the top 8-10 discussion, currently #23 and no dialogue would be complete without mentioning Duke being over-rated at #11. Still don't see any offense for that team. Ranking in the high teens seems more apropos.

For the rest of the SEC, I see 5-Alabama ahead of 6-Ole Miss (not a Coach Yo fan who can recruit but no clue on x's and o's). Then comes 7-Tennessee, 8-Vandy, 9-MSU then a far too over rated 10-Kentucky, 11-Florida, 12-Auburn and the clear bottom 4 of 13-Georgia, 14-Texas A&M (how much do they pay Joni Taylor for 14th place finish?), 15-Missouri (Robin's last year thankfully!) and 16-Arkansas.

I watched all the coaches’ press conferences at SEC media day Wednesday, and I thought coach Neighbors was by far the most interesting. He said his roster is now about 50 percent international players, and he plans to recruit that way in the future. Also, he said they are putting a huge emphasis on defense with this team, which is obviously something new.

The Razorbacks open the season against a 30-win Fairfield team, which will surely test that new defensive scheme. He pointed out he didn’t know he was going to be virtually starting over with the roster when he scheduled the game more than a year ago.

It’s going to be an interesting year in Fayetteville. I’m pulling for him. After coach Ralph and Johnnie Harris at Auburn, Mike Neighbors is my favorite SEC coach. I just enjoy his personality.

What kind of waiver would be required for a freshman that prevents them for playing during a semester?

I wondered that, too. Only thing I can come up with is that maybe she is a late enrollee. By the way, this Higginbottom kid he brought in is legit. She can fill it up.

Glad I'm not the only one who is confused about it. Looking forward to seeing Higginbottom as she seems to be an interesting addition to the roster.

Watched Oklahoma's exhibition game. I get it, it's exhibition but they are for real. They are like 9 deep and have a really fun style of play. They have bigs behind Reagan that probably fit their style of play more than her, but then they have her to do work inside. Verhulst is pretty amazing. Sec is a monster conference but they will contend for sure. I think I just didn't realize how fast and athletic they are even tho I've watched them a bunch over the last couple years.

Guess this is what Coach Mulkey was referring to when she said Poa was dealing with something outside of basketball.

I know it's pre-season. It's kind of a storyline though, Texas 3 pt shooting. They were 3-15 tonight. Thought it was interesting Laila Phelia got the start. Lastly, Rori looks like she's coming back right where she left off. She got injured later in the season than Azzi Fudd, but is back on the court looking like her normal self.
