Oklahoma post game thread

Then the other big prospect in this night session was McNeeley. Finishing is obviously an issue. Didn't make shots tonight. He gets a ton of grenades where he has to fire up late shots in the clock. Some things to work through for him for sure, wish we'd see him with a great PG.
.

Love Diarra, but would've love to see Newton or Castle with 3 shooters like Ball, McNeeley and Karaban. I think each one them would've shot well over 40% from three.

Good news is we played about our C minus game and won

Tells you about the overall quality of the SEC mid teams.

Let’s play our A game the rest of the tourney…

5* Liam…we’re waiting for you…
OU shot 32% from the floor or the 18% from 3. And UConn is not exactly the toughest defense in the country.

I somehow suspect this wasn't their A game either.

At one point he was 2-11 from the field and nobody else had more than 5 shots. Oklahoma couldn't stop Reed down low but he only had 5 shots. I'm hoping McNeeley breaks out in a big way on Sunday. He's due.
We had that two week stretch where he was being relied on for everything and he settled into that chucking role when it isn’t necessary anymore.

I’m not trying to dump on the kid because he busts his @ss and clearly cares so much, but he is a black hole offensively right now. It doesn’t help that Karaban has struggled with confidence/consistency and Ball despite being the best shooter on the team by a mile at this point is extremely passive.

At the end of the day UConn’s two most efficient offensive players are the centers and they barely touch the ball. The offense should be running through Reed when he’s in but it never does.

Yeah too bad Newton or even Spencer(who was trying to) didn't have eligibility. Newton would of helped on both sides of the ball and Cam Spencer was a great rebounder to go with his clutch scoring.

Yep. Also, UConn does not need the 38 point performer every time he steps on the court. There is a lot he is good at besides scoring. He must help the team in other ways. The shot will come. He is an excellent shooter, and needs to shoot in rhythm.

Played disjointed all night on offense. Didn't take advantage to build a large lead. Almost squander it until Diarra, Ball, and Karaban stepped up to secure the victory.

Oklahoma had some good players but their best player is young and it showed in crunch time.

Thank goodness for those UConn champs carrying us at least into the Round of 32. Now we play with house money and see what happens.

UConn won a championship after winning the 1st game in overtime. Compared to that, this was a breeze. Wasn't Florida a top team and in our way that year also? If Ollie could do it, surely Hurley can too.

This is really all it's about. Live to play another game

I think he is still not 100% healthy. High ankle sprains sometimes take a long time to fully heal.
Not sure it’s the same ankle but ailment seems to be bothering him for past few weeks.

If the team only knew how to throw a decent lob.
This is an issue. We miss so many shots inside because players hesitate and they are not in sync with the 5. Will it be a floater or a lob? Often it becomes a missed shot. Players are not on the same page and opponents are defending it well.

Last year Cam would often pull up, if the defender has taken away the lob, for a short little jumper in the lane. Eventually the defender will have to come out and that will make the lob a more viable option.

This season has made me realize I took how easy Tristen/AJax/Cam/Steph made throwing lob passes look for granted. So many opportunities for Samson and to a lesser extent Tarris are missed per game when guys get into the lane. It's either they are just too late to see the opening or indecisive and get caught up in awkward floater. Samson would have had a better year with guys that can get him the lob.

Johnson was literally unguarded in the high post and the game 4 vs 5 on O. Hurley has to fix this or we get murdered against a a lanky team that can take away the 3 line and defend the low post. We can’t get players free no matter how fast we rotate the ball playing 4 on 5. The reason the lob wasn’t working is because the slip screen wasn’t there. The 5 wasn’t biting and sloughing off. If Johnson could shoot a 12-14 footer, he would score 40 points. Ball found the mid range wide open near the end of the game precisely for the reason, and it’s also why Liam’s driving is getting garbage results. They need to pull up take the midrange.

Yea there were a few awful lob passes by Aiden and AK. Speaks to the difficulty.

Other than Fears I didn't see alot of talent on that OU team.

Boxscore fits that narrative mostly. Wague had his best game ever and was pure energy for his rebounds/points. Not a great talent but great hustle. Moore is their second best player and he was below average today. Their support players were as expected. UConn played good defense IMO, it was the offense that looked completely out of sync but credit to OU for hustling on most of their rotations.

I have felt since the end of January when it became apparent we were going to be a 6 to 10 seed that we needed to survive the first game in the tournament. We did. We tied the record of 13 consecutive wins in the tournament.

All the pressure in the world is on Florida. I like playing an inexperienced coach on a really short turn around.
We are 1-0 against Todd Golden.

UConn's December 2022 victory was Dan Hurley's first ever true road win against a (then) P5 opponent.
