Especially Mahaney. The two he tried in this game were abysmal.
Think it was partially the result of two perfect lob opportunities previously passed up by McNeeley.

He started driving and Samson was rolling to the weak side. The defense started collapsing on McNeeley, leaving Samson wide open for the lob. Instead of passing he drove into the traffic with bad result.

Happened twice, so Hurly probably stressed to look for Samson and get it to him. Mahaney took the message and unfortunately tried to force it when it wasn’t really there.

yep this has really been frustrating me. makes absolutely no sense.

it’s like they are a slave to this new offense system and won’t adapt to what this team does well.
Hurley has gone as far as saying he needs to simplify, yet we run these actions to death exhausting the clock and throwing up bad shots. In a matchup like yesterday there was no reason not to run the offense through Reed.

Btw, it was again another game where Tarris looked like he just smoked a bong for the first 2-3 minutes off the bench. The kid just doesn't play well off the bench - seems like he's in a malaise. Then he plays well after warming up.

I think coach Hurley should get the game ball for not losing his composure after all those bogus ticky tak fouls called on our guys.

When you look at the foul discrepancy in the game it was absurd.

I honestly think it was intentionally designed to get a rise out of him and it didn't work. Hurley just turned his back on the refs and trusted his guys.

Hell of a coaching job by Mr Hurley.

yep. reed had a stretch where he was dominating. and then we proceeded to run the offense with him holding the ball out on the perimeter.

every single possession in the 2nd half should have started with an entry pass to him on the block.

then when he gets doubled he can kick out and we swing to one of our 3 point shooters for an open look.

Although we are not allowed to comment on players who should stay or go, it just might be time for some of our players to move on especially if they are projected to be drafted in the first round. Watch the bench closely during the game there are two players always next to each other and even though they are saying the right thing, their body language says to me they have checked out. They are easy to spot if you are able to read any body language.
They have been for awhile.

one is really tall and the other is short

I honestly thought that the refs were fine, in tournament play i hope we can adjust to going to the rim more. Against Florida points in the paint and at the line need to be won by us. Team has to remember that the refs in the tournament have not been personally victimized by hurley in the past
That ship sailed long ago. First, they are a brotherhood and are thick as thieves. Secondly, EVEN IF any official is oblivious to Dan Hurley, it will take only about 10 minutes before the ref will have had enough.

The game was absolutely in doubt, and they didn't play their A/A- game either.

Another way to look at it is that the 14th place team, 6-12 in conference, just gave the third place Big East team all it could handle.
And Arkansas was 8-10.

Of course the game was technically in doubt, but I never had the feeling that we were going to lose. Guess it was just me.

McNeeley 2-13. Ball 4-7. We have got to find a way to get Ball more shots.

We did foul a lot, so the discrepancy didn't bother me as much as it usually does, but the reffing overall in that game just
sucked.

No, wasn't just you. I got a little concerned a couple times, but never felt we were going to lose.

He hasn't started this year, so how can you say he doesn't play well off the bench comparatively? He started last year at MI, averaging 27 mpg with 9 ppg and 7 rpg. This year he has averaged 20 mpg off the bench with almost the exact same stats at 10 ppg and 7 rpg, which is arguably better on a per minute basis.

His inconsistency is who he is, it's not about if he starts or not, which I know is your argument. All I know is if he started, we probably wouldn't have him available later in the game when we really want him due to foul trouble.

I’m saying the first few minutes always look like he just woke up from a nap. Would he be more “alert” if he was tipping off? Does Samson ever actually win a tip? He must win about 15% of them, what’s the point in starting him? I don’t know what the rationale is to be honest.

Dumb excuse. He had 38 vs Creighton. He is in a funk, it has nothing to do with his ankle.
I forgot that happened after his ankle, was thinking it was before. Then what the heck is going on with him ?

Reed and Johnson can both hit a free throw range shot, as evidenced by the fact that they are both decent free throw shooters. They also happen to be 2 of our 6 best players, but let's throw more Stewart Magical Mystery Tour on the court and hope he pulls his head out of his butt one of these games, or hope our point guard, currently residing in the body of a 55-year-old man, can handle 35 minutes a game. Are those your two suggestions?

Defending a bad strategy by focusing on a detail of another strategy is a sign that you know you are wrong.
I 100% agree that they can. But you watched the game, right? They were left wide open there and dribbled around confused. If we aren't going to direct them to shoot that shot, none of our speculations on how to make the offense flow will matter.

We get it. You obviously know more than the coaching staff.

Um, I think he wins most of them.

He’s forcing a lot and to be fair has gotten some time bombs at end of shot clocks. But he doesn’t look to pass on drives ever, which is odd because earlier in the season he was a good pick and roll passer.
