Oklahoma giving Baylor all they can handle...

True, but leaving a player in for a triple double is a personal/team issue and nothing to do with a national record either - which is where this discussion originated.

Apparently Mulkey agrees with you. That is why comparing stats is sometimes a bad way to compare players. BG could have done a lot more damage but was held out for about 11 minutes of the game. She was well on her way to one of her best games ever and I enjoyed watching it and wanted it to continue. I do think it was the best game that she has ever played.

Right...no UCONN fans care the least about that sort of thing, especially a winning streak or how many points someone scores. Allowing a player to stand alone under the goal to become the all-time leading scorer was the most silly thing that I had ever seen. It was classy of the other team, but come on. You get a free basket and I get a free basket is no way to break a record. I am sure that the player that she surpassed missed some games due to injury and was never given any free baskets to bump up her scoring record.
The idea for that was, supposedly, generated by the opposing coach not Geno. It was offered and Geno accepted.

And Kerry Bascomb, the player whose record was surpassed, was asked for approval, which she gave.

Kerry Bascom missed three games in her four years at UConn. As Nan indicates, she was consulted by Geno and gave the thumbs up. KB is a cherished figure who really accelerated the growth of the program, and would not have been left out of a decision like that. Nykesha was, in many respects, someone who represented the next significant growth stage for the program post-KB. Rebecca Lobo was the first recruiting fruit borne of the KB-led Final Four appearence in 1991, but Kesh was the first national #1 to sign with UConn. And she lived up to the billing during her time at Storrs.

BTW, I'd personally have no problem with Kim leavng BG in for a personal accomplishment if it seemed appropriate. You're asked to sacrifice a great deal for a team, and throwing a kid a bone every now and then is no biggie.

Like she was going to say no. How big of an ass would she have looked like if she said no? But good for her. I guess if she hadn't missed those three games it would not have even been a topic of conversation. I am not sure how many Sales missed in her career...it could have been just as many.

Oh well, I guess that is all a moot point since records are made to be broken and have been since. Had this happened to Maya Moore would Tina Charles have said yes? Would Geno have asked Charles?

But let me say, that for someone to say that UCONN doesn't care about this stuff and that's what separates them from everyone else is silly. It is important stuff and players like to achieve things that haven't been achieved before. You can say it isn't true, but it is.

Kerry was at the game when Nykesha broke the record. She rarely comes to games.

.-.
Baylor is #1 because they beat UConn and ND and haven't lost yet this year. No, they are not the juggernaut of UConn 2008-09 or 2009-10, but they have the skins on the wall and the most unique player in the game.

On a neutral court, yes, they can lose, but if you put a gun to my head and say pick who's winning it all and my life depends on being right, I'm saying Baylor. But since no gun is to my head, I can root for UConn in unconflicted fashion should they meet again. :)
well said

Geno put Maya back in to get "3000" after she got injured in the same game.

I cant remember the game situation etc. but I know Maya was excited to get back in the game, made the jumper and limped back down the court (back-pedalling)
