What caliber of team was C of C? Who might be their equivalent in the Big East?

Unfortunately, Providence is probably too generous. Not that RPI is the be all and end all, but Charleston was 263 last year. Providence at 106. Seton Hall at 181 is closer.

There is no perspective. UConn would do this to any team outside the top 100. Maybe even the top 50.

It doesn't matter. Last year UConn beat Providence 96-35 and Seton Hall 70-37.

Last year UConn beat UNC who was in the top 25 by 51 points.

We beat CofC last year 72-24. I guess our defense isn't as good this year.

We played them a little further into the season last year so the defense had a bit more experience. And of course the offense is much better already this year!
To the OP - they are not good and never stood a chance against Uconn like any bad D1 team. They are probably around the same level as a good D2 program or a D1 +100 ranked team. But I agree - any team outside the top 50 and a lot of teams from 25-50 would probably struggle just as badly.
I was impressed with C of C's fight though. I thought their players continued to compete throughout the game - never got the sense they gave up - a credit to the coaching staff and the players themselves. To basically play Uconn even for the last 10 minutes of the game is something that will give them a lot of confidence.
As far as rankings - any Big East team is going to be much higher in the RPI than a team from a crap conference just because they are getting blown out by ranked teams consistently instead of playing their conference schedule against other crap teams (even if they win a few of the games.)

RPI does not do a very good job differentiating the lower ranked teams.

My guess is there were more possessions this year...games are moving like a freight train...
Looks like a few more. But mostly both teams shot better this year.

Last year
UCONN - 65 FGA's, 14 FTA's- 44% FG / 21% 3pt
CofC - 49 FGS's, 8 FTA's, 24 TO's - 14% FG / 20% 3pt

This year
UCONN - 66 FGA's, 13 FTA's - 64% FG / 47% 3pt
CofC - 59 FGA's, 10 FTA's, 25 TO's - 25% FG / 28% 3pt

C of C was an undefeated juggernaut coming into the game.....1-0....win over Coastal Carolina [double digits!]

Ha...I guess when you shoot 64% there isn't much to put back or rebound...CofC had 20% more possessions though...interesting...

CofC had more possessions this year because UConn scored more quickly. It is really that simple.

The C of C game last season was incredibly painful to watch. This one was less so. It was also better than last year's opener.

Otherwise, I agree with the notion that Uconn is going to absolutely destroy any team outside of the top 20 this year, along with many inside the top 20, so it'll be tough to say what a blowout win really means.

That was my guess as to why possessions would be up...the interesting part is that CofC's weren't...

I think you mean UCONN's. And I can't figure that out either?
