Since this is my first full season on the BY, I am looking for tips on how to break the addiction to checking the Boneyard multiple times per day, now that the season is over. I know we can talk about certain topics or off topics until we a "blue" in the face, but I need to get a life and maybe do something a bit more productive in the off season.

I'm sure many of you can come up with some creative strategies.....fire away!

Speaking of WNBA, here is a nice article on WNBA site focusing on Stewie, with some nice quotes from other UConn/WNBA greats about Geno and Stewie.

Stewart, Fellow Seniors Write Another Chapter In UConn Lore - WNBA.com - Official Site of the WNBA

And Gabbyfan: the season is not over 'til you've watched the game at least 4 times(on now on ESPNU) and read ever article written in the USA and abroad about it and seen the seniors go in the WNBA draft on the 14th. Some say 1, 2, 3 and others have it 1,2 and 4.

Then we have endless thread possibilities about commitments and rumors of same AND what would an off-season be without debates about who starts, etc. There is plenty to do.

Hmmn, maybe stop by the men's board and suggest that woman's basketball is better than men's basketball? Just be sure to be proactive and suggest things that Coach Ollie should work on with the team. I know that they are always up for courteous debate.

Alternatively you can suggest that the best pizza in Connecticut is not made in New Haven.

I'm still in the after glow of my team winning a national championship. I'm in basketball nirvana. After I wind down, and my feet get back on the ground ( in a couple of weeks), I'll be able to do some serious posting, commenting and pontificating. Right now, I've still got a buzz going.

You are not the only one checking BY site multiple times a day. Many of us do the same thing.
Sometimes I turn on the PC, and first thing, is to open BY and read the posts.
Cheer, we call this "A loyal UConn Fan", and be proud of it.

There are numerous possibilities to keep us engaged and informed all the way till first night and the start of the 2016/17 season.
I'll list some of them in somewhat chronological order.

April - Victory Parade, WNBA draft, open recruiting period- Who will visit Storrs?
May - Start of WNBA, summer plans for current players, Olympic team final roster
May - September WNBA season minus the month off for the Olympics
June - Summer school for current and incoming Freshmen
July- USA basketball tournaments
August- Olympics, 16/17 schedule announced, season tickets on sale
September- Serious speculation on starting line-up. i.e. How much has Natalie improved over the summer?
October - Everything begins again

Not an exhaustive list, however there should be something new on the boneyard daily to keep us going!

Also:
How long the winning streak will last.
Where will DD transfer to next?
Unfairness of the NC NCAA investigation.
Should we switch back from 4 quarters to 2 halves
Size of the ball.
Whose the best ever? Diana, Maya or Stewie?
Best/Worst commentator
CPTV or SNY or ESPN?

I think we can stay busy.

Hours and hours can be consumed here on speculating which incoming freshman will start, what their actual heights are, which ones are future All-Americans, which one has the potential to be the next ________ (fill in the blank). Lots of ways to waste productive hours.

I knew you were a light weight from your first post!!!:)
What, you think the players all go off and do macrame or finger painting for the next six months before cranking it up for a new season in September! This is now OUR off season, time for us to expand our game, learn new skills, build our boneyard IQ so when September comes around we aren't flabby and out of shape - we are ripped and ready to take ourselves and our fellow yardies to knew and unimagined heights!

Think Geno has headed to the Jersey Shore for the duration! Not likely, he is combing the country, nay, the world for new talent to mold, and he needs our help and advice - if you are not on the board adding insight into the AAU and HS scene, spotting talent, breaking down the pluses and minuses, starting rumors of commitments, new sightings, advice on what each player needs to be doing every day to be the next Tina or Maya or DT, this whole magical empire may just crumble into dust.

So start speculating - find us a name, and some stats to chew on, post a picture so we can compare relative heights of eighth graders, get DNA samples to analyze so we can project the future stats of some former Husky's projected progeny. And ... don't forget, if you are away from the boneyard for more than two hours at a time, you may lose 1:59 of celebratory party time when some new rumor surfaces of some 12 year old who owns a basketball and was seen crossing into our great state wearing what might have been a national flag blue hoody (the light was bad and it really could have been blue and not forest green - I've already apologized for the mistake, so get off my back Meyers!)

:eek::):cool:

Generally speaking, the off season conversations are usually about recruiting, transfers, coaching changes, WNBA, and 2,387 threads on who's going to start next season followed by 1,276 threads asking when the schedule will come out. There are generally threads like "name your all-time starting five" and "rank the UConn point guards" and, of course, "Diana, Maya, or Stewie - who's the best?". :)

There's more tolerance for off-topic threads, too. In the past we've talked about where we got our handles, where we went to college, favorite pizza/ice cream (food talk is big), and we've shared movie reviews. The off season is also a great time to ask questions about things that may be puzzling - what's a match up zone, how to determine a block from a charge, etc. I promise any lurkers that they will NOT be attacked or ridiculed for asking questions.

Speaking of lurkers, we've traditionally held a Lurker Day, where only folks with less than 75 posts can post on the board. It's to encourage lurkers to become more comfortable and get used to the board. BTW, the term "lurker" isn't an insult. From Wikipedia:

In Internet culture, a lurker is typically a member of an online community or PLN who observes, but does not actively participate. The exact definition depends on context. Lurkers make up a large proportion of all users in online communities. Lurking allows users to learn the conventions of an online community before they actively participate, improving their socialization when they eventually de-lurk.

Lurkers are referred to using many names, including browsers, read-only participants, non-public participants, legitimate peripheral participants, or vicarious learners

On April 15 a new thread will open featuring a very scientific poll debating the starters for next season. The binding sealed results of the poll will be delivered to Geno prior to the first practice. As a employee of the State of CT, Geno is obligated to start the players designated. Your vote really does matter so be sure to vote as often as possible.

Actually, I really wondered if anyone has updated news on her foot. As a geezer I fell and broke my wrist last year and I am hoping for a speedier and younger recovery for my favorite forward.

Don't forget mentioning the co-ed scrimmage on First Night.
Most of the men's board are soooo looking forward to it, particularly that chief guy, amirite?!?

Definitely another topic.

I'd suggest titling your post "Why co-ed scrimmages make both teams better" and of course, there is the old stand by "The women's team would beat the men's team since they are better fundamentally."

But we shouldn't ignore the football guys. Perhaps a discussion as to whether we'd be better off dropping down a level since we don't have the fan base to support FCS football, or alternatively, a discussion as to whether our former AD should have given Paul Pasqualoni more time to develop his players rather than firing him.

All are good choices which would make for a full summer as you moved from safe house to safe house.

The simple solution is to speculate about the team we shall have next season. It is going to be a world away from what we have enjoyed the last 4 years.

I keep repeating myself, as I surf around this site, trying to figure out how it works. I'll get there eventually. I would like people's views on what kind of team we can expect next year. I have my own views, which include: 1. Soniya is a disappointment and will not long hold the starting point guard position; 2. Courtney Ekmark will never be more than what we have already seen ( a few ineffective minutes in garbage time ); 3. Butler is unathletic and not much of a basketball player. I will be stunned if even Geno and his coaching staff can get much value out of her. She will be fine against most of our in conference foes, but have no impact against quality teams; 4. so we shall have a respectable starting 5 ( including Crystal ) and two other freshmen. They better be huge surprises because neither drew much national recognition.
