Officially #2 AP

We keep dropping in the KP rankings, down to #11 (peaked at #5). I'm sure its related to competition but I'm still a bit surprised to see it.

We've been beating teams by less than kenpom predicts we will, and kenpom is an efficiency-based ranking, so there's really no way we wouldn't slide a bit.

with KP the ranking matters less than the ratings, and a lot of that is just bad shooting. the efficiency ratings haven't dropped by that much.

It's probably because this stuff determines seeding.

Florida must not have been too happy to draw UConn the second weekend last year, and it was all because they had us seeded 8th. I had us seeded 6th.
You think the AP poll determines seedlings???

Lolololol

I’m not sure how good we are right now. I really can’t differentiate many of the teams 2-6. I think we beat Purdue, toss up with Duke and Michigan, and I don’t want to match up against Houston. I’m glad we have another month to get the machine running properly.

Gary Parrish now thinks Houston will win it all. Then again he had St. John's #1 to start the season. I like Houston but I would be somewhat worried that they rely heavily on a freshman point guard. I just am not confident in a freshman point guard leading a team to the championship.

I think it does esp at the top. By kenpom and most other metrics UConn is a 3 seed right now. No way if the season ended now UConn get a 3
We have the number one resume per Maya. We are a one seed as of today. These other metrics are supplemental.

epitome of being different

Poll rankings picked by brain dead writers have NEVER been a criteria nor had influence over seedlings. This is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard.

This.

Losing to Butler hurt them quite a bit. Even if they only won by a basket or two SH would have been a few spots outside 25. A clear win may have left them ranked.

Sadly, a couple more performances like the Butler game could put them on the wrong side of the bubble.
I get that Butler has been bad record wise since the start of conference play, but I hate how Seton Hall was penalized so much for losing to them after also playing us to a close finish. It's not as if Butler is a bad team, they have a win over current #14 Virginia as well and are basically top 50 in the NET. Their NET was in the 20s at the start of conference play, and they've played a lot of the top teams in conference already which is part of the reason their conference record is so bad.

Seton Hall obviously doesn't deserve to be in the top 25, but I was a little surprised they didn't even get one vote if I'm being honest.

Parrish is almost always wrong about anything, but he owns up to it. I’m not thinking Houston to potentially go further than a FF. I just hate the idea of playing them when we are prone to turnovers.

That out of conference keeps looking better and better... Conference not so much.
If St Johns and Villanova can avoid losses to schools other than uconn, nova St johns, they might end up as a decent opponent in the resume.

Seton Hall stinks in my opinion but the full court press combined with Bug East refs that let them foul 5 times on every press will win some games for them. They stole ( or the refs stole) that game against Creighton.

Creighton has a clever coach and a good home court so they might steal some wins. I think the best thing that could happen for Big East would be for UConn, St Johns and Villanova to dominate the league. I don’t think any other team has a shot of winning an ncaa game

Someone's got an axe to grind. Her other picks are all pretty consistent with the poll. The Syracuse location is definitely suspect.

You can look at her previous weeks rankings, they aren't far off the norm for UConn (I think, I looked at them yesterday late at night). This was a huge deviation for UConn in her rankings.

Either she really hated the two close wins UConn had, thought other teams had some huge wins, or she made a mistake.

All depends on how we shoot from 3 . 22% and we don’t beat them. 35% I like our chances

Brutal for Seton Hall. Finally got ranked last week now they’re nowhere to be found. The loss against us is acceptable, the one against Butler not so much

OOC looking good. Illinois and BYU top 15, Florida and Kansas top 20. Only loss is to unanimous #1. Is it weird I don’t think Illinois is anywhere near as good as their ranking?

St John’s is tied with Wisconsin for #26, they’ve been turning it around. Villanova has 3 points, 2-0 gets them easily in (home vs GTown, then in CT on Saturday). Tall task ahead for them but they’ll be motivated

Just 2 seasons ago we had Steph Castle as our point. I do generally agree with you, but ultimately it comes down to the quality of the player. These kids play a lot of hoops and tournaments long before they get on campus. They're not untested freshman.

Yes, it has an impact. It's crazy to believe it doesn't.
You are just continuing to prove how little you know about college basketball. You should just stop. AP rankings have NOTHING TO DO WITH SEEDING in the NCAA tournament. Never have, never will.

Let's look at last year, just as one example:

AZ was a 4 seed. They were ranked #21 in the last top 25 poll
BYU was a 6 seed. They were ranked #17 in the last top 25 poll.
St Marys was a 7 seed. They were ranked #20 in the last top 25 poll.
Gonzaga was an 8 seed. They were ranked #24 in the last top 25 poll.
Kentucky was a 3 seed. They were ranked #18 in the last top 25 poll,.
Clemson was a 5 seed. They were ranked #13 in the last top 25 poll.

I could go on. And that is just from LAST year. Each one of those teams was seeded at least two lines off of where their ranking indicated they should be. Some higher, some lower.

Poll rankings don't mean SQUAT for seeding purposes.
