I'd like to hear from Jackson on what happened but I'm guessing this was a mutual parting of the ways.

Losing a basketball recruit to Georgia doesn't worry me. There could be a dozen different reasons why, but most likely (in no particular order)

1) UConn realized we had better options.
2) He wanted to be closer to home.
3) He was worried about competition for playing time.
4) Some or all of the above.

Best of luck to Turtle, UConn will be fine.

Dodged a bullet here with his injury history... I would like another shooter for the class regardless if its at the 1, 2, 3 or 4 and a high upside big (Enoch?)....Enoch's upside with our coaching, conditioning and facilities >>

This might not be PC, but this pumps me up. Now Ollie has the whole live period to do work without the hindrance of maybe Jackson de-commiting or not. We have bigger fish to catch and I am so excited to see how this class ends up. Best outcome for both parties.

Kind of off topic but are we officially done for this upcoming season with potential 5th year transfers? I see a couple open spots.. we could use the depth at F/C.

Good luck to Turtle. UConn is recruiting more talented kids so we'll be fine. Turtle is going to a program where he will get PT and an opportunity to develop his game so it works out for him. Sounds like a win, win to me.

This is good for both sides. He gets to stay home and get playing time, and we free up a scholarship for a better player. Best of luck to Turtle at UGA

From Scout:

Jackson said he spoke to the Connecticut staff a “week or two ago.”

“They have a lot of guards and they signed a couple,” Jackson said. “We just thought me going somewhere else would help would be better for my future.”

“I’m already in Athens,” Jackson added. “I already see the love that that fans show to basketball and football and even gymnastics. Plus it’ll be easy transition for me.”

Jackson said he’s known Mark Fox since middle school and the two have kept in touch. “It’s great,” he said abou this relationship with him. “I’ve known coach Fox since 8th grade. Even when I committed to Connecticut, he would call and ask if he could talk to me. He would talk to me about my games and tell me what I could do better.”

Jackson, a four-star guard, told Scout.com that he plans to sit out this July and instead hit the weight room and workout with his father at home.

Also, Turtle is planning to sit out this July. Makes me think there is something more here with an injury.

Good kid. UGA is a great fit for him and I wish him the best of luck unless UGA finds themselves in the NCAAs playing UCONN.

this pretty much clears it up that it was mutual

All the best Turtle! I will always root for you. Sounds like it's a mutual best case scenario and definitely glad this didn't drag on. This board is about to get crusty. 2 months until football.

Mark Fox is one of the biggest that I've seen coach. With that said, best of luck to Turtle.
