Anyone else think South Carolina is pretty much smooth sailing to the championship, unless they play Notre Dame. I kind of don't get it. I almost would've preferred they get the overall number 1 seed, cuz I don't know how they avoid playing USC, UCLA and UConn to get to the championship game.

So bizarre that they send #15 FDU to TCU and #15 ArkSt to UConn.
It's bizarre that of the two locations for regionals, Spokane and Birmingham, one is close to the Final Four site and one is all the way across the country, as far away as possible. So, as Rebecca noted on air, the two teams that emerge from the Spokane regionals will be at a disadvantage over those that emerge from the Birmingham regionals: they'll have to travel cross-country before the FF, while the other two will have a very short trip to Tampa. What were they thinking????? That's not remotely fair.

It's been like that before. Now there's sufficient time between the regional final and the final 4 that it shouldn't be a big deal.

The team most disadvantaged will be the team that emerges from the Spokane E8 game played on Monday, March 31 at 9:30 or 10 pm. At least the winner from the other Spokane regional will play March 30 and get the extra day to travel.

I predict Spokane 4 E8 will be Monday night at 9:30-10:00.

Agree would
Much rather play Texas
Disagree. Strongly. We got a gift with USC. Just have to double one player like UCLA did in their last matchup. In spite of the hype this is not a Paige/Juju faceoff. We are a complete team with 3 stars, they are a one wo(man) show. Sarah can handle Kiki so they have no one to put up against Azzi. And our defense is so much better now that that first game. I'm lovin this matchup.

Dawn’s currently complaining about not getting the overall #1 on ESPN. It’s not a good look. By the way, didn’t she lose to someone a few weeks ago by 29? ;)

Dawn has a valid point pointing to her Q1 record. Like Pat Summitt (and Geno), she will "play anyone, anytime, anywhere". Compared to LSU's OOC conference schedule Dawn's is tremendous.

No idea if it matters, but maybe the committee used head-to-head as the final decision criteria? Or has the "committee" already explained their rationale?

@Triad, why do I sense a hint of sacrcasm in your statemen?

Hey.... look at their excitement

If you are gonna get smoked in the 1st round.....Kids would rather get on a plane to a city that most of them have never been to... than riding a bus down Interstate 77 on that rough pavement to Columbia

I honestly think that all of the various “criteria” that they include is more or less just guidelines for justification of subjective decisions.

Who gets in, who doesn’t, perhaps that is based upon some season long stat that justifies the teams. Same thing with the top four selections which may be based upon something real. And then, once they have a field of 68 selected, a general ranking of the field from top to bottom starts to become more fluid. What becomes the difference between a #28 and a #33 is based upon matchup’s.

So yeh a general ranking is established but after that, to fill out the bracket, I believe that they selectively start looking at these potential matchups games.

“What is going to be a great T.V. draw for Elite Eight games?” and potentially even good TV draws for Sweet 16 games. Who has already played each other three times and nobody wants to see them play a fourth? Perhaps an ex-teammate who has left a team to the transfer portal matchup? A matchup of the two finalists teams from last year, etc., etc.

Yes, there are a dozen or more selection criteria guidelines. Almost certainly, after they choose whom they want in the various games, they would be able to go and find a selection criteria that justifies their choice if put to the test. But let’s be honest, they don’t need to validate their decisions and typically don’t.
