Offensive Rating - Cam Spencer

I have the exact opposite take on this. Newtons freewheeling and flair adds a necessary unpredictability to this team. They have plenty of grinders and guys who efficiently hunt for their shot. Newtons laid back vibe and wild card shot making is additive, not destructive to the offensive plan.
We need Newton to score. We all saw the offensive struggle against Kansas and Newton almost single handily beat them. This is not the same team that lost to Kansas but I agree that we need Newton’s unpredictability.

You're going to have a hard time convincing a basketball coach that a 28 foot shot with no trailing rebounder is a good thing even if the vibe is right.
I dunno Hurley and All-American voters seem to dig the vibe. I dunno maybe you just aren't on the right level?

We were taking any shooter we could get. Hard work paid off and when we lost Timberlake, we got Spencer. The persistence of this staff is what stirs the drink. Relentless.

When you are relentless, things just break your way.

I completely agree with you, but he must have a green light to launch those bombs, several which become bricks.

Probably the best, one year, high impact, addition we have had since Henefeld. Both players make their teammates better with their smart play. Henefeld is a UConn legend and Cam has a chance to be one as well.
He still has a Covid year I think.

No one is tougher on him than himself. Always the last guy in the gym, the last guy shooting in warmups, won't leave a spot until he makes it...and he grabs the game ball before the jump to feel it, test it. He's a bball junkie - and I'm here for it.

247Sports re-ranked the transfers again (think they do this monthly). Spencer is #4 behind Dickinson, Knecht and Love. I think someone said before that he was ranked around the 100th best transfer before the season started.

NO. 4: CAM SPENCER, SG — UCONN HUSKIES

Stats: 14.9 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 3.4 APG, 1.5 SPG (49.3% FGs, 45.4% from three)

Team Record: 18-2, 8-1 Big East

No. 1 (AP Poll), No. 4 (NET), No. 3 (KenPom)

UConn is proving all doubters wrong, yet again. Dan Hurley and the Huskies are absolutely rolling right now and a big piece to this team's success has been due to the addition of Cam Spencer.

Spencer may not have the physical evaluators like size, length and athleticism, but he's proving why those things are being overvalued. While he looks like a YMCA legend, his toughness, IQ, confidence, skill and shot-making are making him an absolute star in Storrs.

UConn had a major void to fill after the departure of Jordan Hawkins and Spencer has done more than enough to fill it.

I thought of Shonn Miller, but in terms of high impact on a powerhouse team… not so much.

Cam is currently etching his name in UConn lore.

Brando just said that Cam was a defensive specialist and Donny had to correct him lol

Tough game for him tonight from the field. Hopefully that means he has a great game against St. John's.

yea he was ranked 114th, which is nuts considering the production/efficiency he had in the Big 10 last year.

Who cares about the offensive efficiency crap
Cam had an off game - everyone does
The important thing to consider is that it is an anomaly vs a trend.

Congrats for what? His efficiency will drop. At least one of us contributed to this thread.
It will drop. Providence did a good job contesting his threes, and he didn't have a good night. And then his efficiency will go up or down depending on his next game.

Do you understand what means and standard deviations are?

Kemba had a pretty nice middy- just ask McGee! :D
Cam mid range jumper is a thing of beauty and the closest thing I can recall is Rip.

Along with his lethal 3 point shooting, and more devastating BBIQ, I’m really glad he is one of us.
The other Hamilton, I always thought was our best ever mid-range jump-shooter; Daniel Hamilton
