Do you think it’s possible for us to have a normal and peaceful offseason after a good year?

It’s like the universe sees us relax and thinks, nope, this will not do.
I was thinking the exact same thing. Back 2 Back Championship’s and we’ve had the most nerve racking offseason ever. Usually around this time, I’m checking for practice footage and that’s it. Zero peace this offseason.

Agreed. I can't say "Why can't we have nice things?" after back to back titles, but it always seems like the next monster is lurking waiting to pounce. After the DH to Kentucky B.S. led into great recruiting, portal success and current player retention, we'd shifted to looking excitedly to next season and a possible three-peat. And just as we do, Freddy Krueger grabs us from out of the mattress and says, "Not so fast. Remember me?!"

This is the off season to end all off-season IMO, a doozy. If we manage to get through this with our sanity intact (if we even still have it) we fans can say we are able to deal with anything.

Another major kick in because we haven’t had enough over the last 14 years in one form or another. No great accomplishment goes unpunished in Storrs.

I'm beginning to get a little disappointed in some Boneyarders.

What will it take for some of you to realize that every time the universe steps in and tries to destroy us, we come back stronger than we ever were.

Yeah, we may be knocked back a few steps at first, need a little time to find our bearings and start moving forward again, but then we begin steamrolling everyone, leaving the haters angrier than they were before their most recent attempt to put us out to pasture while we distance ourselves even further from their feeble accomplishments.

If Dan Hurley returns, we will continue to be a dominant force in men's basketball. If he takes the Lakers job, we may need a little time to recover but then we'll make the past two seasons look like an appetizer while the main course will leave the haters crying.

We do always seem to bounce back, but we were really fortunate that Hurley got in here and laid the foundation for this culture and program before NIL and transfer portal were established. It put us in a place where those building blocks allowed our success to feed on itself like an ouroboros. It is why we were able to separate ourselves from even the few elite programs in college hoops.

If Hurley puts pen to paper in Los Angeles that whole house is entirely bulldozed in one stroke of the pen. We will be starting from absolute scratch, and that is the last place any program wants to be in this era, as the opportunities to build something like this again are infintessimal. The game is too unhinged now. Too chaotic. We are able to overcome no conference money and middling NIL because of the culture Hurley instilled. We don’t feel the full effects of the real negative implications of the transfer portal and NIL strictly because of Dan Hurley. He’s our shield. He flipped the script.

I don’t see ANY team going forward that will be able to replicate our recent success ( back to back) if it is not us. We are the last, the perfect storm. The current environment is way too volatile to allow for what Hurley was able to do. Because 1) he’s damn good 2) we got lucky in the timing he could build it without portal/NIL the first couple years.

The game has changed way too much too quickly. Look how everyone says Kyle Neptune should be fired for playing 500 ball his first 2 years. No chance to even build like Hurley had just 6 years ago. Hurley had a worse record those first 2 years and I’m damn glad we kept him.

This isn’t doom and gloom, just reality. UConn will have some major challenges rebuilding a program in NIL/portal era

I will always be here for it just like I was in the dreaded AAC era trying to give away great seats to people to get them to go to games.

Also the late timing of this is really going to tank the next couple years.

I like you A-Dub but there are comments in your post that I take exception to:

1 - Referring to our most recent accomplishments as 'getting lucky' reeks of something a Syracuse fan would say. I think you've been spending a bit too much time on other school's boards.

2 - Comparing what Neptune was hired into at Nova to what Hurley was hired into here. Really?

I'm a bit surprised that you are finally willing to accept the fact that there is a legitimate existential threat out there. Hopefully enough will also realize and it will help move support of our school to a place where we have a shot at surviving.

One reality is that we will always have major challenges. We can either live with it or find something else to waste our time and money on.

I think we’ve all been around long enough to have learned, you can’t count out UConn basketball. If he leaves, there’s a great chance we still prosper. I’m not going cry about it. Let’s just hire a big time coach and get on with it. You look around the Big East and see a coaching Hall of Fame. UConn is the best job in the conference. If we can’t get another top coach, no one can.

I think the next best guy for the job is already in the Big East now, as I alluded to in another thread.

1)Our success isnt lucky, that was built through tireless work and High level basketball knowledge plus incredible program management (from roster to coaching staff assembly). What is fortunate is the timing of it. Let's not get confused. I don't know how anyone couldn't say we were fortunate in the timing of getting Hurley to start his build in 2018. If his hire date was 2022 the manner in which he would've had to go about it would be entirely different. I am very grateful he got to start it in 2018. Everyone should be. That's all. We ARE lucky. (as fans!). You are smarter than seeing the word "lucky" and having a knee jerk reaction and missing what is actually being said.

2) Neptune is just one of many examples. Point being that in just the last 7 years the patience of fans and programs has waned and demanded fast change.

When it comes to resiliency as a UConn fan, this is the only competition.

Lol, we just won the NCAA men's basketball national championship, back to back, by the largest margin ever. Personally, I thought that was pretty nice.
We're talking about the off-season here.

Neptune inherited a perfect program. He bulldozed it in two years. He's not building, he's a human bulldozer.

They had no recruits of note in his first season that is why they had to portal so hard. Jay left the recruiting cupboard pretty bare on his way out. He may or may not be a good coach (signs point to he is not), but he inherited nothing close to what Scheyer did. Jay's culture was still there. The players weren't. The best was Justin Moore and he missed 1/2 of Netpunes first season still healing from achilles tear and then was never the same.

Did our football program start winning and did we get into a P4 while I was doing Wordle this morning?

We're talking about the off-season here.
So, we are ignoring back to back championships and complaining that are off-seasons are less than optimal?

OK then.
