Did it really? Seems to be missing experience in the key position he was hired for.

Year-By-Year with Frank Verducci
1980 Colorado State Graduate Assistant
1981-83 Maryland Tight Ends
1984 Northern Illinois Running Backs/Strength & Conditioning
1985-86 Iowa Graduate Assistant
1987-88 Northwestern Wide Receivers
1989-91 Iowa Assistant Offensive Line/Recruiting Coordinator
1992-94 Iowa Offensive Line
1995-98 Iowa Offensive Line/Running Game Coordinator
1999-2000 Cincinnati Bengals Tight Ends
2001 Cincinnati Bengals Tight Ends/Assistant Offensive Line
2002 Dallas Cowboys Offensive Line
2004 Buffalo Bills Tight Ends/Assistant Offensive Line
2005 Buffalo Bills Offensive Line
2007-08 Cleveland Browns Offensive Assistant
2009 Notre Dame Offensive Line/Run Game Coordinator
2010 St. Louis Rams Personnel/Advance Scout
2011 Florida Offensive Line/Run Game Coordinator
2013 Montreal Alouettes Offensive Line
2014 Northern Iowa Tight Ends/Offensive Tackles
2015 UConn Offensive Coordinator, Running Backs
2016 UConn Offensive Coordinator, Tight Ends

I still don't understand how he got hired. He literally never called plays. Diaco must have seen "run game coordinator" and his eyes lit up

Franklin's experienced as an OC is obviously>than Verducci (non existent t) but was agreeing with Sportsart about # of assignments.

I still wonder how good this team could have been by now if HCBD had hired an experienced playcaller in Jan. 2014. I find it hard to believe that we'd be 11-26 under an OC who knew what he was doing from day one.

Don't think we would be as bad but the team doesn't have a ton of talent. Add a horrendous head coach and incompetent offensive coordinator and, well, here we are.

I'm just amazed how convinced people are that we don't have any talent when coaching incompetence lost us two or three games and then the wheels fell off. We need more talent but these guys were good for 6 wins and if they'd gotten them in spite of the coach, they may have gained the confidence to get a couple more. I know they aren't great. However, to say they are so awful is to take the blame off the coaches who have done a terrible job by almost any measure one could think up.

I agree, but to play devils advocate, we were never going to win more than 6 games with that offensive line. It was really, really bad and we need to hope for a huge improvement there if we want to have any sort of success next year.

Speaking of previous BC coaches - Check the boxes: Louisiana Tech Announces Todd Fitch as New Offensive Coordinator

"Preferred Qualifications - Ten years of experience as an offensive coordinator at the collegiate and/or professional level; and experience as a quarterback position coach."

  • 1989 - West Virginia, Volunteer Assistant
  • 1990-91 - Bowling Green, Wide Receivers
  • 1992-93 - Colorado State, Running Backs/Special Teams
  • 1994-95 - Connecticut, Quarterbacks
  • 1996-98 - Connecticut, Offensive Coordinator
  • 1999-2001 - South Carolina, Wide Receivers
  • 2002 - South Carolina, Running Backs
  • 2004-06 - Iowa State, Quarterbacks
  • 2007-09 - East Carolina, Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks
  • 2010-11 - South Florida, Offensive Coordinator/Running Backs
  • 2012 - South Florida, Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks
  • 2013-14 - Boston College, Wide Receivers/Passing Game Coordinator
  • 2015 - Boston College, Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks
  • 2016 - Louisiana Tech, Offensive Coordinator/Wide Receivers
I count 11 years as an OC and multiple years as QB position coach. No NFL tho.

LaTech put up near 500 yds (400 thorugh air) against Navy tonight in 48-45 bowl win.

Easy. Just put them on a diet and put them through agility and plyometrics boot camp. Target should be 20 lbm weight loss per man. I refuse to believe that the prerequisite for proper OL technique is a PhD.

Question to the BY...

COULD BE JUST AS CRITICAL !!
DO they need to post the Offensive line coach position if there are changes being made and AND and The hire is from outside the existing staff.??

If there is a desire to move on the offensive line position coaches, we would probably see a posting right after an OC HIRE??

JUST AS CRITICAL AS AN OC HIRE.. Imho!!

Most definitely! Yes they have to post any and all positions through HR..just like the OC position.

Well, you would hope that the o-line situation will be addressed once the new staff is announced. Will they bring in a new O-line coach? Who knows. I still believe a couple heads are going to roll from this past seasons staff. Diaco is a proud guy that believes in his over all program building strategy and he seems bright enough to see when things aren't going well. Sure, he tries to sell everyone that the ship is fine and just needs to correct course but you know as well as anyone that he's fuming over the fact that this program isn't at level 300(or whatever that point system was he had) or better by now. And, I think even though he brought in trusted confidants to help him get the ball rolling he know realizes that specialists need to be hired to start the fine tuning. At least lets hope that's what is going on behind the scenes.

No one whose history dates back to 1980

We need an OC with that same exact approach "Logan says he will adapt to the talent that he has rather than force a system on players who might not have the skills to master the sets." If you don't have the offensive line to do 5 step drops do quick 3 step drops. Lets do what 99% of college football is doing and go to the spread offense. Hurry the pace up and make the offense exciting. We don't need to mirror Oregon from 5 years ago but get close to it. Lets make football fun again. The Orlovsky years were awesome to watch.
He would bring instant offense, and he can easily be interim........

I get that the coaching profession is well established as a nomadic lifestyle, but this guy barely spent two years in the same place in over three decades. That tells a story, but which one? The aggressive assistant always climbing the career ladder or a guy who under performs everywhere he goes, so he has to get out of dodge before he's exposed. I don't know enough about Verducci to brand him one way or the other, but anyone who has had multiple stints as an OL Coach in The FBS and NFL should be able to oversee an offense with better OL Play than what we've seen the last two years.

Personally I would have been thrilled if Diaco moved Verducci to OL and Cummings to whatever non-coaching assignment Verducci now holds when that move was made.

Another name who meets the "preferred qualifications" in the job posting: Murray State University Grad Tony Franklin: Middle Tennessee State (OC/QB)

I will take a HUGEEEEE pass on the tony franklin system. it will not work here, at at the average high school? sure, but in college I don't think so.

Tony Franklin's passing scheme is one of my favorites. Supposedly he's tough to work with, though. At least according to Cal fans.

A lot of the best teams in CT use his system or have used it in the past

State Champs

Most CT teams use aspects of the TFS in their offensives but because it is so popular there are also many different ways to defeat it. thats why you cannot rely on it.

Pro Football Hall of Famer John Hannah says of the system "If both teams have players who are equal in talent, this offense is impossible to stop"

2016 UConn Total Offense - #122 out of 128
2016 Middle Tennessee Total Offense - #8 out of 128.

2016 UConn Passing Offense - #92 out of 128
2016 Middle Tennessee Passing Offense - #8 out of 128.

When Franklin was @ Cal:

2015 Cal Total Offense - #8 out of 128
2015 Cal Passing Offense - #3 out of 128

2014 Cal Total Offense - #13 out of 128.
2014 Cal Passing Offense - #6 out of 128

I'll grant you that we don't have a Jared Goff on the roster but...

The only way you beat it is to play really really good man coverage and to have great DTs that can clog up the running game. If you don't have both then you're screwed

respectfully disagree, unless you run into a + high school QB you commit to stopping the run which is bread and butter for most schools and force them into the pass. as long as you do your homework and have good formation recognition you can take your chances against an average high school qb and be successful.

John Hannah has been out of coaching football for over a decade...

You said you didn't think the system would work in college. The system has worked @ LaTech, Cal and MTSU. It has to be better than what we have. LaTech lead the nation in 2012. I'd take my chances just w/ better use of current personnel.

agree to disagree, with my understanding of his offense and how its implemented i just don't believe it would be a good fit here. trust me i would love to be proven wrong.

The best part about his system is you don't need a world-beater QB. You can run it successfully at any level because the reads are so easy. Considering our QB woes it's a good fit here.

Guess Christmas comes either tomorrow or some time next week on the OC

"This job posting is scheduled to be removed at 11:59 PM eastern on December 26, 2016." - guessing NOT tomorrow but...

You have to recruit to system whatever that might be. Initially yes it would be a bumpy transition, but as you turned over the roster it could work. Right now Uconn employs one of the most ineffective mish mash of styles on offense that I have seen in a long time. They have nothing to hang their hat on, and worse yet they do a poor job of putting the play makers that they have on the roster into positions to be successful. I have no idea if Franklin would be the answer, but literally anything at this point would be better than what is currently in place.
