OC Gordon Sammis to TCU

Please stop this line - we just poached Toledo's top recruit. And we return to sender.
No, he went where the coach went, just as the Mora took Brown, Van Auken, Viver, Emanuel, Martinez, and Wimbush, who were UConn recruits.

So all is fair in recruiting, especially now.

This is good for Sammis and it’s good for the UConn brand. For years the only mentions we got were for being terrible. Our school is going to be in people’s ears going forward with the phrase “He did a great job at rebuilding UConn.”

Coach Sammis did a great job producing solid offensive lineman that gave us a chance to get up from the matt and have a chance to win games again. Then he took on being OC and we joined the ranks of BCS teams that have dynamic passing offenses. I never thought I would see it happen. Best of luck Coach Sammis and thank you.

I hope Candle succeeds wildly at UConn, but I really would prefer an OC. There aren't very many P4 programs that still have their HC do double duty as an OC or DC.
Agreed, but we’ll see. Maybe, he’ll be able to afford an OC he trusts now.

I like Sammis but Joe, Skylar and Cam had a lot to do with his success. He was good, but he also had some good players to work with.

It seems like Candle is a good play caller and even if he does empower an OC to run the offense here, he’ll step in if he doesn’t like the job he is doing. I’m really not worried about the offense. I’m more concerned about the defense. We had no D this year and now we need to mostly rebuild it. It will be challenging.

Well. It can work…see Kiffin…and Candle at Toledo. Then again…the biggest complaint about Napier at Florida is that he didn’t allow his OC to call plays.

Mora called the defensive plays until he realized a DC was a better option. Maybe Candle will change also. But….it seems like he can handle it.

I’m really not too worried I believe Coach Candle will bring in a coaching staff that will get this team rocking. As he said he will have a product on the field next year that we can all be proud of.

Losing him and Cam in the Portal. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I hated seeing Cam’s name on that list but I guess it’s expected. I hope there’s still a decent chance that Candle wants to and can retain Cam and other key players from our offense.

Really happy and sad for Coach Sammis, sad cause I thought he would step in when Mora ride off into the sunset, guess timing a little off. Happy he got a great spot, Good Luck!

Still hoping we can retain Cam and OL guys.! Big package deal.

"don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened"

RIP Jim Mora UConn Era.
2022 - 2025
It really is wild how clean of a slate Candle is walking into for better or worse. Between the roster and the staff there will be such a clear line of delineation between the two eras.

Every player is different but if I were an offensive player, I would much rather follow Sammis to TCU than him to CSU. If you believe you will play. I wonder if Sammis is contacting any recruits and if any of the recruits who committed to CSU want to switch to TCU. I know the two programs are on completely different levels so maybe TCU isn't really an option for them. UConn to CSU and Toledo to UConn are more similar but man, the decision to take the CSU job seems more lame every day. I hope the Aztecs, Broncos, Beavers, and Cougars run that conference.

Congratulations to the coach, well deserved. This is a feather in Mora's cap as well.

Our roster is not full of returning players who would be comfortable knowing they would be getting serious playing time at TCU. Murawski, definitely. Edwards and Chadwick and Cassidy -- maybe. But the competition for playing time at TCU is very different than at UConn.

TCU is an offensive juggernaut and recruits much higher rated recruits than UConn. And, TCU is not a rebuilding situation so I would think no players will follow Sammis to TCU.
