Nych Smith, 5-foot-11 PG from Memphis
3-star recruit

Verbal Commits has has us on him for a long time.

Corey Evans just named us as his landing spot, giving us one crystal ball pick on 247.

It seems like there's not much difference between Smith, Carter and Hardnett. All three are small, sub-elite ball handlers who are likely to be four-year, depth players. All three are known more as facilitators than shooters. Think of Boat as a freshman and imagine "Poor man's version of that."

We shall see what happens. Obviously there's only room for one of them.

I think Smith has the best shot of ending up with us. Perusing his offer list, Clemson and Mississippi State already have PGs, and Arkansas, Tennessee, and A&M are out of scholarships for next year. Carter and Hardnett appear to have more options.

From TOS:

Nych Smith may be small in height (5-foot-10), but he’s strong and tough. Smith is quick and able to break down defenders. While we list him as a lead guard, his mentality – at least on his high school team – is more to get points. He can get hot from three, is comfortable pulling up for mid-range jump shots and has a floater. He’s quick laterally and a tough kid that will compete on the defensive end as well.

If you could have your pick though wouldn't you go with Carter or Hardnett over this guy?

1. Carter
2. Smith
3. Hardnett

Carter seems to be far and away the best of the three. But look where "having our pick" as a fanbase gets us. We spent months bickering over which of Clarke, Jones, and Mack KO would pick (because all three obviously wanted to come here but we only had space for one...) and look where that went. The only way to follow recruiting and not drive yourself insane is to acknowledge that you have no say and that you're stuck with whoever the coach brings in.

Yes, he went overseas because he hated the conference SMU plays in. It definitely wasn't that he would have never qualified to play college basketball.

He also could've possibly smelled the starting to emerge from that program...

Maybe, but how would that have affected him? Nothing was going to happen to SMU this year, and this would have been his only year. He went to Prime Prep for 2 years, which is basically a sham high school, and he wouldn't have qualified because of it. I'm sure the 2 mil or whatever it was didn't hurt either.

What are you people thinking? We have been losing to these players all year. We need four or five guys who can play and will stick for 4 years. So, that when we get a star(DHam, Adams) we have a a team around them. We're not Kentucky or Duke. If we strike out with 5 stars and not take these guys while we can, we end up with Faceys and TSams. And remember rankings mean little because once they get the offer from UConn, their stock rises(a la Ali) and their ranking goes up and they start getting offers from other schools.

Hey man I am allowed to be frustrated....
You are. But you should also remember that we've already landed our top two targets, and will have more 4/5-star talent on next year's team than we did on last year's, no matter who we add from here on out.

Was Enoch really one of our top two targets?
