November General CBB Discussion Thread (Non-BE)

He’s played the most minutes - 18. He was the last guy to sub out (after a bad stretch with two turnovers) and almost went right back in.

He’s not shooting well - hasn’t all year - but he seems to have earned Buzz’s trust. And he has 7 more FTA after getting a friendly call getting fouled on a three, so he has 10 at the half (2-6 FG, 5-7 FT).

He seems like he has a pretty high ceiling if he can find his shooting touch. Has a lot of length for a combo guard.
Yea if he can become more efficient(getting stronger will help some) he's gonna be a tough guard, his ability to draw contact and get to the line is pretty remarkable for a freshman. Got a bit of TNew in his game in that regard, I can see why Hurley was recruiting him as a combo guard.

Well St. John’s has done nicely in hammering Baylor. Big East needed that given how strong the Big XII looks. USC might be good. So hard to judge all these early games and yet they permanently set the rankings for rest of the season. That’s how 3-4 crappy SEC teams got in last year.

If it's players that went to CC or had injuries, I have less of a problem with it. Give them their chance to play their four years at the D-I level. Grant-Foster is a very interesting case, not the least of which is because he was getting NBA Draft buzz a couple of years ago.

What I struggle with are 21-22yos coming over from Europe that have played professional ball for 3 years already (like Uros, though obviously he didn't come over here to play major minutes). The kids coming over at 18 or 19, even if they've been on pro rosters, I'm generally fine with (like Rrezon).

What I can't stomach are guys that have played G League ball coming back to college. In no world should that be allowed.
Just curious… did you struggle with the guy who is 5th among UConn’s all-time assist leaders? He was 21.5+ years old when he played his first game in Storrs, and it’s likely he’d be our career assist leader if he was here for four years, like the four guys ahead of him.

Our KP is dropping like a rock with some of these really impressive wins happening. Down to 16.
You are seriously going to bring this up now? 3 weeks in. When a lot of the data from last year is still incorporated. Peak Boneyard.

Did I say I was worried? It's an observation. Some of you are sensitive as sh#t. My god. Take a look at if there is anything that was written there that you needed to get your panties in a knot over.

Lol. I am not sensitive. I think it's a strange post since its so early. "Dropping like a rock." A little dramatic without mentioning they are 1 point from 9th.

The NET hasn't even been released yet.

Yeah, it dropped from like 5-6 to 16. There are some really impressive wins happening on neutral courts. It’s early but many of the top teams are halfway into their OOC, when a lot of baseline metric is built. Point is we have some work to do in these next 4 big OOC games, all an opportunity.

The BE being so bad makes these next 4 OOC games even more critical. We need to beat at least UF and KU and UT to have a shot at a 1 seed and that might not be enough depending on how the P4 shakeout. These injuries occurred at the worst possible time other than March. Would happily have traded some BE Ls for these OOC wins.

Yup - I know it's early to think about seeding and resume, but this window is massively important. We are seeing those that are separating. And there isn't much of an excuse on it being early as UM is basically all transfers. They're also strengthening the B10 power ranking. If players can play, they should play. I'd be really disappointed if Mullins & Reed are off the floor Friday.

That is exactly the point I was trying to make. It's clear that OOC is what the NCAA uses to determine if your conference wins are worth anything. Unless the Big East picks it up, and that includes UConn not losing even without Reed, we won't get much credit for beating anyone in conference. Some mediocre teams in the Big XII and perhaps B1G will get credit for playing a very tough slate even if those teams fall off.

I agree but we just don’t know if they can play. Idk how bad the injuries are, idk what the risk of reinjury is, idk who makes the decision for them to play or sit, I’m not a doctor so I’m not questioning all that or doubting the players I’m just frustrated like everyone else

Right on. It'll resemble last year with the SEC. This year the B10 seems to be driving the bus as they have a number of high quality wins. It's important that we get as many of those wins now as possible, so these injuries are tough timing. Even if we can get these two out there for 10 minutes, it'll make a difference. Ankles are durable - this isn't like a knee.

Seton Hall really surprised me beating NC St and almost USC.

Butler also looking good beating UVA, S Car and almost SMU on the road.

Should have beaten USC - haven't seen quite the ref job like that one in a long time. It was egregious, and I'm not one to over emphasize reffing issues as it usually presents some balance. This was OOC. Look at the FT disparity, and watch the last 2 minutes.

ISU has them a 7 foot euro on their bench. It is downright amazing how many euro bigs there are in the college game these days. They are everywhere - and they sneak into the game without much fanfare and end up being very good.

Watched the first half of Syracuse-Iowa State and thought Cuse was competitive. Thought they might be the sort of plucky, feisty team that could win a few games in their league.

I did not watch the second half. They seem to have run out of pluck. And feist.
