Freshmen are given the keys more nowadays but Jordan, Barkley, Olajuwon, Ewing, Mullin, Dumars, Detlef Shrempf, Sam Perkins, Charles Oakley, Alvin Robertson, Kevin Willis were all in the same class and they're going to be pretty damn tough to beat.
lotta big boys in that class

.-.
Cam Boozer must’ve missed out on the freshman hype…nothing burger this first half, Duke down by 1

Darius Adams had 16/2/2 with 2 steals against Coppin State. Played 24 minutes. Shot 0-5 from 3 (went 3-4 from 2), but 10-12 from the free throw line. 2nd leading scorer for Maryland
Anyone actually watch? How did that twig draw 12 free throws?

Interesting box - Duke getting murdered on the boards, 25-15, with Ngongba & Boozer. They're lucky Evans is shooting lights out or they'd be getting slapped. Texas only shooting 33% from field too.

Caleb Foster is not a very good basketball player.

I think the "Cam Boozer is the greatest player in NCAA History" takes will age well, just like most on here. Starting off strong!

A poster just suggested freshman basketball players didn't exist before 2005, and it might not crack the top 10 craziest things on the Boneyard today. I can't believe this site is free

He may have just been laughing at superjohn saying "lolz" for the 500th time this week and maybe he lost his train of thought.

Khamenia has some hair cut - I think he's got NIL with Flowbee.

.-.
Boozer had a little discussion with the officials at the end of the first half - probably explaining the way things work around here. They listened. Fouls are like 10-2 this half.

Lolz, freshmen college basketball players existed before 2005.
That’s just when the rule came into play that guys had to go to college.

Even though there was a time period before I was born where they always went. But there was also a time where they couldn’t play varsity. Lol

But I’m open to hearing of other freshman classes that played as good as that 08 class did in their freshman year.

I assume the Fab 5 was so popular though because people weren’t used to seeing freshmen playing that well, ever. Could be wrong though.

We could’ve used him against New Haven :)

Fwiw, Darius was my favorite player from the class. He was also the worst fit here for this year.

It was best for both parties for him to go elsewhere to be able to play his game.

I already named a class that had much better players than the 2008 class or the current class.

Diaper Dandy is a made up name for freshmen Dick Vitale thinks are great. There was always great freshmen before 2005 and they actually used to stay in college for several seasons.

Fab 5 was popular for a lot of reasons. They were 5 freshmen 3 of which were stars and they started most games and they were the only team to start 5 freshmen in the national championship game. They were brash, they all wore baggy shorts and black socks. They were seen as cultural icons.

Again, were they good as that 2008 class as freshmen?

That class had Greg Oden, OJ Mayo, Eric Gordon, Kevin Love, and Derrick Rose to name a few.

Only Greg Oden and Kevin Love made All American teams despite OJ and Eric being 20 PPG scorers and Derrick Rose leading one of the best teams in the country (which again makes you think how great college basketball was when those guys were snubbed).

I checked Patrick Ewing numbers and he was not freshman year Greg Oden.

Damn all this and I forgot to mention Michael freaking Beasley.

Edit: take out Greg Oden and replace him with 26 and 12 player Michael Beasley.

@UCann I'm looking at boxscores this AM... help me out

  • #1 Purdue barely made it over the 30-pt win, 80+ pts scored "panic" marks vs. Evansville. Is this enough for Boilermaker fans to step back from the ledge?
  • #9 Kentucky beat Nicholls 77-51. Should KY fans be jumping from Rupp's Rafters?
  • #10 Tx Tech beat Lindenwood 98-60. Are they a lock for the Final Four?

In other scores to srcutinize:

  • KP#46 Oregon over Hawaii 60-59. Time for a Duck Hunt?
  • KP#168 Rice pummeled the D2 College of Biblical Studies 109-38. Good Lord!
  • KP#75 Arizona state over Southern Utah 81-64. One pt over the magic 80 mark, but only a 17pt win. Bobby Hurley on the hotseat early?
(Just a little good-natured BY teasing)

Y have espn?? Nice
Our HOA voted to switch over from cable to fiber - year-long process to install - but one of the best decisions ever, in my opinion and experience

I'm old so I enjoy (and require) a Dumb TV experience, for easy browsing - I have no desire or patience for going in and out of apps, ha - and refuse to pay for the Peacocks, CBBSNs and any other "+" additional options

Recently went from spending $125-150 for decades for the cable and Fios TV packages ---- to $40/month for near 1TB internet speeds, and a billion stations, including sports-related: 3 Fanduels, ACCN, Big10, Yes, 4 ESPNs, 2 FSs, Golf, 2 NFLs (including RedZone, which I never knew I had, ha), MLB, NHL, and Tennis channels ... along with the typical TBS/TNTs of the world

If I'm not at the game of interest, I'm watching it if it's on my TV ... if it's on some pay-up streaming-only option, it will be missed, even for my/our beloved Huskies
