Nova Game

Let's look at Villanova losses:
1. vs Columbia - Columbia won on the charity stripe, and shooting well from 2pt land. Dixon had 33pts
2. @St. Joe's - St. Joe's also won on the charity stripe. Dixon had 22 pts.
3. vs. Virginia - Va won with great 3pt shooting and playing great 3pt defense on Nova. Dixon had 20pts.
4. vs. Maryland - Md stormed back with Derek Queen (of Montverde with Liam and Cooper) in the 2nd half. Also got help with Nova committing more fouls. Dixon had 38 pts.
5. @Creighton - Creighton shot > 50% with Kalk getting his, but others like Ash and Neal getting similar so well balanced. Dixon had 27pts.

The main themes are:
1. Villanova tends to foul more than get fouled (even at home)
2. Dixon will score 20+ on volume shooting and still they can lose.
3. Poplar and Brickus have to have really good games to carry them to victory - if either has mediocre, they tend to lose.

Why is this game at Finneran Pavilion?

"We've never played a mid-week game at Wells Fargo, just based on the capacity there," said Dunleavy, the former Quinnipiac head coach. "We can fill it very easily on a weekend with people driving in from New York and D.C. It just doesn't happen as much during the week. So, those mid-week games, we keep on campus and create a good atmosphere here."

Of course, Villanova's students aren't back from semester break yet.

"If we could choose to play UConn at any time, it certainly wouldn't be on a Wednesday during break," Dunleavy surmised.

I can't wait. Despite living in the Philadelphia region, I haven't been to that building in over 20 years. I got tickets for tomorrow night from a friend who is a season ticket holder right after they announced the schedule. From the pictures, it really looks spectacular after the renovations.

Watch the highlights of the 'Nova vs. Butler game. The Bulldogs were in command- until the wheels fell off and they couldn't put the ball in the basket. 'Nova closed the game with 22-1 run.

Heading over myself. Psyched.

There doesn‘t seem to be much in the immediate area for pre-game food/drinks though. Seems weird for a college campus.

Anyone know anything?

I was going to say it’s because they can’t defend and then went to look up their KP and they are 50 better than us on KP defense :(.

We will need to step things up on defense and control the paint and boards. At this point I just don't trust that we can shut them down on the perimeter.

There has to be. It's a pretty big campus in a ritzy area. I'm sure there are lots of places around there.

Something like this? I'm sure there are lots of others.

Thanks. Saw this a couple of days ago but it was all booked by then.

Comming from by train from Philly so we’ll just stay in town and do something here. Looking forward to the college campus vibe and figured eating and having a beer in a campus type hangout would be part of it, but there really doesn’t seem to be anything like that.

With the way they are playing I think this would “eye test wise” be our best win of the year.

I know the numbers do not support that statement.

Proud program. On campus arena. They are playing considerably better than their metrics. All American Dixon. Nova +2.5 at home…

Gonna require a complete game and our All American to have a special game with McNeeley out.

It’s not necessarily a college vibe, but Workhorse Brewery in King of Prussia has a great place that’s big and about a 12 minute Lyft ride from the arena

Hurley has been know to briefly switch to zone when his defense is getting sliced up. He did it against Gonzaga in the elite 8, and once against Xavier. He hates zone, but when our defense is being mauled off the dribble maybe we see him shake things up again.

I may pick up tix for my kid and I depending on how work goes although the prices look pretty crazy at the moment.

I hear you. Figured two national championships and a small venue was gonna sting, and it did. Bought tickets a couple of weeks ago. Only go to a couple of games a year, and figure seeing them in Finneran will be pretty special.

Guess other side of that coin is Syracuse. The Boneyard thread earlier got me curious so I went to stub hub and checked. They are playing Georgia Tech tonight. If you wanted to buy a ticket today, it would have cost you $1. LOL -a buck! Saturday’s game against Boston College? - $7.

Yeah kinda why I’m waiting until tomorrow to look again at prices. I’m only about 25min from the Nova campus so I’ll check again at 4pm. Looks like a pretty cool venue.

Have watched a lot of Nova this year. Dixon will be by far the best player we’ve faced.
Gotta have the discipline on D to not bite on the famous Nova pump fakes and get into early foul trouble.

We open as -1 favorites
Well, it finally happened. We are truly doomed.

It newer And better. But not spectacular. It was the best they could do in that limited space…no way they could expand the building. the township would fight tooth and nail over a plan to add a damn storage shed.

If you had a nice $750K home near the Villanova campus would you want a bar like that in the neighborhood?

Dixon isn't some guy putting up these #'s for Sacred Heart. He's a two time second team all-Big East guy putting up these #'s in the Big East and he'll be Big East POY and an all-American unless something goes really wrong. He had 38 against Maryland, 31 against Cincinnati, and 27 against Creighton.

He compared Dixon's stats to Johni Broome's stats, another 5th year senior who is probably a second round pick, he didn't compare him to Jordan.
He reminds me of Perry Ellis. It feels like we've been playing against Dixon for about 9 years now.
