Uhh ... didn't this very thing happen to the UConn men last year with the recruitment of Drummond?

Ultimately, one player agreed to go off scholarship for a year to make room for him.

Uhhhhh.......No, this is nothing like the UConn men situation. First of all, I said "players", not "player". Second, no one had to leave and in fact, Drummond was the one that paid his way as a Connecticut resident. And Third, the men's game is so different as great players only stay 1-2 years, and women stay 4.

That's one great thing about our country. People aren't put to death for having differing opinions. i'm not going to debate it with you because you will never change my mind and I will never change yours. I totally respect that you have a much stronger dislike to the situation than I do.

By the way, and again I'm sure you and others find this totally reprehensible, but there's a pretty long list of kids on the UCONN men's side who have been told they were recruited over, weren't going to get any PT the following year, and subsequently transferred. Ultimately it usually happened BEFORE Calhoun went and got new kids to verbal, when their schollies were maxed out, but bottom line he's done it numerous times to free up spots for kids he wanted more. It happens all the time. And the NCAA allows it. It's the reality of the system. But fans are certainly within their rights to criticize and lament when it does happen...

What the heck? I was just disagreeing and you go into this "no one is put to death" stuff? I wasn't trying to convince you of anything. I just disagreed and disagreed strongly.

I don't have a problem with recruiting over. Coaches have an obligation to improve their teams. To the fans and the institution. But there is a 15 scholarship limit for women and to accept verbals before knowing how you will make room for them is a little bogus to me. I really feel for the kids that need to change their lives around for this.

MilfordHusky what is your head count at UNC for 2012, and 2013 ? There are a lot of variables which I don't know about, such as injuries, red-shirts graduating, and transfers that were planned before the verbal commitments.

Sure it appears Hatchell is being unethical, however her program has underachieved the last few years, so I can see why she is doing it
I'm not sure on the head count, but I think UNC took it to at least 16 and is still looking to add Russell, Davis, and perhap more. In short, my view is a general one, but I think (though with less than 100% certainty) that UNC went too far.

I agree with your point--if, for example, Sylvia knew that 4 players would be transferring, bringing in more kids is Ok. From a public relations standpoint, however, the impending transfers should be announced before the verbals.

I was responding to your point that this hadn't happened on a men's team.
No one *had* to leave UNC either.

I know, right? it's great that we have a free country and that people can disagree without fear of torture, death, whatever. that was my point! don't try to read too much into it lol.

The "everybody does it" argument doesn't make it right.

What UNC has done is just plain wrong.

And I was just correcting you. It DIDN't happen. Drummond paid his own way. And you can't have more than 15 players on a roster, so with 18 possible with the 4 verbals, how does someone not leave?

Does anyone have any, you know, proof that Hatchell did anything immoral, illegal, unethical or just plain wrong? When we have threads like this that tear down a coach without a shred of substantiation it becomes like that Other Place. I won't have it.
