Yes, the player who came in the same year as Sveta. I can’t remember her name.

I actually got to see her play at UW. I might be alone on this board in that claim.
I saw her play net ball in NZ…hated the sport profoundly…then followed her career on the “yard” until she disappeared from sight

I’m pretty sure Piath Gabriel was born elsewhere, I’m thinking Sudan?

Batouly Camara was born in NYC but I'm pretty sure she's a dual USA-Guinea citizen. Not quite the same as 'non-US' but maybe worth noting anyway. Gabby W may fall into the same grey area.

She's listed under New Hampshire.

Canada - Schumacher, Kelly / Quyon, Quebec

She left UW and returned to NZ to prepare for the Beijing Oympics
I thought she went to NZ to rehab an injury after going to UConn, then just never came back.

I quoted that from the official UConn 20255-26 media guide.
Kelly moved to Quebec when she was in fifth grade. But she was born in Cincinnati and lived there for her earlier years.

Gandy comes from Ireland via New Jersey. As for as foreign countries are concerned it's your pick.

Netball was based on the original basketball. When I was a kid it was known as Outdoor Basketball and played, well, outdoors - rain or shine as a winter sport - on an asphalt court. What we now know as Basketball was called Indoor Basketball and played, funnily enough, indoors.

Outdoor Basketball was played mostly in British Commonwealth countries and was eventually renamed as Netball. School and club matches, at least down here, are mostly played outdoors on asphalt, although a lot of games are now played indoors on a wooden floor. I've seen it played on grass in Fiji!

Fun fact, the first time I played in the Newtown stadium it had an asphalt floor. A sprung floor was installed by the time I returned to Wellington, but the lowest row of seats, complete with numbers, was still there slightly above the floor.

It burnt down several years ago...

Thanks for this! Never heard of Netball.
I like to think about "influences" and origins of some of our common ways of doing.
For example, how an artist is influenced. I think Turner's use of light was an influence of Monet.
I taught a SS lesson on the influences of our Founders as they constructed the Constitution.
Could this game influence modern women players to be better spot-up shooters? I think they are better than the men. How about use of the pivot. Since you can't dribble or move much in netball, maybe players learn pivoting. I think Sarah and Blanca are good at it, which enables them to travel longer distances with minimal dribbling and maybe Jana and Serah can improve in that area.
Thanks again!
