Hannah Hidalgo (#5 in 2023) posted on her Instagram story that she will be announcing her top 6 on August 1. She’s visited Ohio St and Pitt, not sure of other schools she might be considering
A while back I read it mentioned that she was interested in Stanford and Rutgers. Then there's plenty chatter that Notre Dame is in the mix. I'm crossing my fingers for Stanford as they have had many near misses on several point guards over the year.

I totally agree. Her decommitting immediately after Kim left and quickly committing to Texas was definitely a knee jerk decision. I also hope she does take some time to make this decision.

Having to decommit a a third time would not be the best look for her.

I would not be surprised if she went to LSU but I think she will stay in Texas. I have heard she is extremely close to her family and wants them to be able to easily come to her games.
Baton rouge is literally a 2 hr Drive if that from where she lives. College station and austin are about the same if not further lol Texas is a BIG STATE yall lol

The drive from San Antonio to Baton Rouge is 475 miles. So, that's about 7 hours.

San Antonio to Austin is a 1 hour drive. To College Station like a 2.5 hour drive.

You're getting her confused with Lauren Cox's little sister Maddie, who is one of Sammie's besties.

.-.
Is Kim after Maddie as well? Is she on par with her sister talent wise?

Yes

As talented as Lauren? No but she’s pretty good in her own right. Different type of players

She is getting a lot more looks after having a strong summer showing.

Laila Reynolds (#37 in 2023) has announced her top 4

Honestly that is the first time I’ve seen her name in regards to Mississippi State. However she looks to have great size and skill set. Mississippi State has to replace a lot of guards after next season and I’ve seen several 6-0 to 6-1 guards on the radar.

We’ll take her!

Most of those were expected but impressive job by Messer to break into that final group for her though I don't expect she will choose UCF.

I understand ND, Stanford, Duke and even Michigan to a certain extent, but surprised to see UCF and Ohio State?

Ohio State never surprised me as she visited them multiple times and seems to have a good relationship with McGuff.

McGuff has a track record of attracting speedy guards (Rikki Harris, Madison Greene) and/or guards from metro areas. Now, the ones from the latter (see Kateri Poole) often leave, but Greene and Harris are still there, alongside Mikesell and Jacy Sheldon. Kim Barnes-Arrico, with her Long Island-Jersey ties, could also be a factor here.

As an ND fan, I could get excited seeing her learn from and possibly play next to Olivia Miles for a year or two. As the former Knick announcer Marv Albert might say, "racehorse basketball!" :D:) Stay tuned.

Jada Williams flips from UCLA to Arizona:

Kinda makes sense considering UCLA has Jones and Rice. The second flip from UCLA to Arizona, the other was 2022 Paris Clark.

Williams is teammates with Breya Cunningham who is also committed there. She's also one of the highest profile NIL recruits since Bueckers/Van Lith (I think she's ahead of where they were at a similar time frame). At any rate, Arizona is loading up with talent. If most of their top players stick around they'll be quite good for years to come.

Was thinking the same thing, Barnes hauling in the recruits, AZ looking mighty competitive over the next few years with their incoming freshmen and 2023 class, curious as to who else is on AZ's radar for 2023

Watch out if they land JuJu “Watson”

Yes Barnes is bringing in a lot of quality recruits, but she's hit the portal hard after each season. Also, unless I've missed something but there seems to be a log jam at the guard position now with the 2022 and 2023 classes. Add in players returning for their COVID year, playing time for several of these players will be tough.

Unless it's not tracked (or I missed it), I don't think Stanford has even offered Hidalgo yet? I may be wrong but I wonder if they offer it's over?

My immediate thought on this is Williams and Clark don't want to order Rice. Or, more to the point, not playing while Kiki Rice is at UCLA. (That situation developed after they had committed.)

Clark shot out of Westwood as soon as Rice announced her commitment to the Bruins. Williams was one of the first major commits of her class, so she must've given this some serious consideration -- and/or gotten lobbied from a U-17 teammate.

But guess what? Williams and Clark are both in the backcourt, so it won't be step in and play in the desert, either. Plus, Barnes changes the face of that team, year-in and year=out for better or worse, so stay tuned.

Stanford has such tough entry standards that I believe they hold their cards close to the vest until the academic office shows some white smoke. However, I defer to @TheFarmFan for details on that one.

If Hidalgo -- whom I've read is an excellent student -- does pass The Farm's standards, I'm still not sure this is a done deal for Coach T.
  • Olivia Miles was recruited heavily by Stanford (and Princeton when Banghart was there) but chose Notre Dame. Coach Ivey can point to a number of guards in the WNBA that she personally coached.
  • Kara Lawson of Duke -- a recently named USA Nat'l Team assistant coach on the 5x5 team -- can point to Day-Wilson on her Dookies and the experience of coaching Plum, Gray and Young in the 3x3 Olympic tourney.

That said, Stanford certainly has some serious athletic and academic chops, to say the least. Plus, they could use a top-rate PG. Stay tuned

Add in Gilbert and Hylton to the backcourt for the 2022 class as well. Definitely will be something to watch this season.

Stanford has been recruiting her pretty heavily for awhile. And based on this article from earlier in the year, she has been offered. She also visited earlier in the year.

Whether she’s been given the green light form admissions yet or not is unknown. They have admitted others in the last month or so, so she should likely have that answer already but haven’t heard anything confirming or not about it.

I do think she could step in and contribute greatly at the pg position there!
