Non-UConn recruiting thread - 2025

I don’t get it. Who/what is this about?

Answered. Supposedly the #1 2027 in WI. Also had offers from Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Kansas and some others. Odd to see Iowa and ISU chasing a guard that shoots 25% from three since three point shooting is usually a big seller to both.

Iowa must really like her. Low ranking/unranked and middling offer list. Plays for Gopher legend Janel McCarville, but no Minnesota offer.

38.5% on 3's this season.
I agree she doesn't seem to be the level of recruit Jensen has been after since she arrived, but given the fact this is a 2027 player I don't think it indicates a fallback/desperation type of signing. I think Jan sees something that makes her believe she's still in the developing stage.

Okay that a LOT better (really good) than last years stats that I saw! And, we are talking a 2027 so betting Iowa and ISU saw something they liked as to likely development over the next two HS seasons. 🏀

Seubert’s commitment seems like a recalibration of a recruiting approach. Iowa chased elite national recruits the last two classes and slow played or passed on a number of lower ranked regional recruits. Seems like Iowa is at least somewhat returning to its recruiting roots for high school players in the ‘27 class.

247 has her at #40 currently.

That’s about where Tessa Johnson was ranked when she committed to us before winning the McDonalds 3 point contest.

Sidebar: I was so hoping for a long shot that she would stay at home for Gophers. ISU had no shot at recruiting her after how they treated her older sister Rae (IMHO) who was PG at ISU.

Learned something new today. Interesting insight here.

On Joyce Isi Etute's IG, she has a story with a countdown ticker that she'll be making a commitment announcement in 21 hours or so; that would make it around 9 AM Central on Thursday, January 22.

Interesting. Might indicate Texas is out on Okeke.

Edit: Isi Etute is a 6foot1 center so maybe not.

Depends on what position(s) they expect to play in college. Etute is an undersized (height-wise) PF in my opinion. She does have the strength to play Center, but she'd be even more undersized at that spot. No idea about Sara Okeke.

What the heck is going on with UCLA's 2026 class? Do they have a 2026 class? With 7 seniors graduating this seems really concerning
I'm just spitballing here, but I think that Kendall Dudley's mom feels that she was sold a bill of goods at UCLA (playing time, probably) and feels that her kid was recruited over through the portal... and may be throwing A LOT of shade at the program. Again, this is me extrapolating from very little evidence.

From a fan's perspective, it's pretty obvious that Coach Close is trying to ride this tiger to a championship and has thrown most of her resources at maximizing this season. So, freshmen were definitely not going to be starting over the upperclassmen, key transfers were definitely going to be blocking younger players, etc.

And after everyone graduates, then what is left to play for? If I was a 2026, I might be listening to the elder Dudley (or every other coach in the country) and wondering if my kid was just going to be shoved aside for a transfer. At this point, it's become obvious that UCLA will be hitting the portal hard for transfers just to fill out the roster, so it's become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

AND UCLA's big returners are hard to pin down positions for: Sienna Betts (4/5), Timea Gardiner (2/3/4/5?), Lena Bilic (2/3/4?). So, where is a freshman going to be playing? Maybe if I were a point guard, I would feel comfortable, but that is probably the most likely position to be picked off the transfer portal.

I'm reminded of that old Broadway standard, "How do you solve a problem like (M)AuRIemmA?" respectfully, barring some unexpected injury, I don't see how UCLA gets over the Husky Hurdle this season. UConn's roster is too stacked and while Close did pull a rabbit out of her hat two seasons ago, I just don't see it this season. But who knows, I could be wrong.

Idk if it’s 2 but Im assuming one is Okete. And if there isn’t a national championship(s) the coach must go!!

I believe the two fingers up is the USC Trojans hand sign they make for "V for Victory"
