I remember Lambert from his Dude of West Virginia days....he kind of helped sprout the realignment cottage industry back in 2012 (The Dude abides. Truth seeker, philosopher, sPitt hater, and Mountaineer fan.

Some of his tweets didn't pan out in 2012 (FSU ro the Big 12)

or 2019...

I have documents in hand detailing the commitment of both UT and OU to the Big 12 and their agreeing to extend the GoR. 9. The resignation of Gallogly at OU has been the only issue causing a delay.

I don't have current numbers but I found online: The sports teams at Duke brought home $150,517,681 in revenue while shelling out $148,026,188 in expenses. In other words, the sports department made a profit of $2,491,493. This sounds much better than UConn.

He says he wouldn't rule out UConn as a possible candidate for the Big 12, but he continues to hear that UConn is "not an easy relational fit with the Big 12". He agrees with that. He doesn't think that UConn is a good fit. (Monty has never liked UConn).

Duke's endowments pay 28% of athletic costs...

28% of athletic scholarship costs - not athletic costs:

“An endowment is one of the most powerful ways to help Duke Athletics, as your gift establishes an enduring legacy that will benefit Duke student-athletes in perpetuity. Approximately 28% of Duke Athletics scholarship costs are covered by endowment income. Gifts of endowment provide current revenue and investment growth across generations, assisting Duke now and far into the future. Endowment-level gifts ranging from $100,000 to $5,000,000+ provide long-term sustainability for Duke’s athletic programs by funding scholarships and providing additional operating support.”

Let the Big 12 rumors swirl (again)

Former Salt Lake City-based radio host Tim Montemayor reported on “The Monty Show” Monday that the Big 12 is pursuing Duke.

“Well-placed sources told us that the Big 12 is being aggressive with ACC basketball membership and has their eyes solely set on Duke to pair with Gonzaga,” Montemayor said.

Good luck with that one. Duke likely would anger its alumni and other donors if it went B12. The amount of money they could lose by upsetting these generous folks is much more than what they would earn from the new conference when compared to ACC revenue. Just look at what happened with Harvard. Alumni donors got angry at the president. They stopped donations. The university forced out the president. Lesson for Duke here.
