I think UConn had watched him during the spring eval period and there was an offer out for him, but I don't know how serious UConn was about him. He is deciding between Syracuse and memphis on May 30.

What in the world do these kids love so much about Bowheem? That ridiculous zone actually hurts the defensive development of their players (and their future NBA prospects). They usually flame out early in the tournament. It's in Syracuse, New York. Where's the appeal?

Imagine these poor kids actually think they can go to Cuse and become better players?

Does a kid like this say:

"I want to go to Syracuse because their McD AA bigs suck and I can find time in the rotation for sure. Also I'm dying to exit early in the NCAA tourney along with my teammates!"

I went to Syracuse and they are my second team (Yes I know that's like being a Red Sox fan first, Yankees second.) That said, the town is basically Bridgeport, less Long Island Sound. The guy is from Jersey, that's where they go!

No, it was about the ability to sleep with his wife.

We know you dont like playing defense or trying or anything so well let you stand in the middle of a zone d where you can stand there and maybe try to block a shot or something... nothing like youll see in the nba. Sounds fun right?

Of all the big time hoops programs I too just don't get it! What is the appeal? My niece graduated from SU. I've visited the campus. There was nothing about that visit that shouted out, "Yeah! This is the place to be!" I know that SU hoops is the only attraction worth seeing during the winter up there. They pack in a load of bodies into the dome to watch them play. They'll always rack up a ton of wins each year, but much of that has to do with loading up on weak competition at home during the first few months of the season and the difficulty of OOC programs being prepared to beat their tough zone D. I do hand it to SU for playing the best 2-3 zone year after year, but as so many pointed out, it doesn't prepare their players for the NBA, at least defensively. JB's offensive scheme, if you want to call it scheme, is somewhat of a pro-style that does translate well to the NBA. I'm assuming that has to do a lot with what attracts talented players there, as well as some of the big names that have gone there such as Carmelo.

To answer my own question, I'd say it's name recognition that attracts talented players there. Also props to JB for spotting talented ones. Some of his less heralded players have turned out to be very good college players. He tends to recruit by the arm length, to get players who fit his zone well.

With all this said, I just don't get it. I just don't see why talented recruits who have other options want to play in a location that has such brutal winters. Not that Storrs is such a warm sunny place, which BTW I think works against UConn at times when we go head-to-head against programs such as Zona, UF, UNC and other programs where the climate is much warmer than southern NE. IMO, the counterbalance that has brought talented players to Storrs is the HCs JC and KO, the Big East (well not any more) plus the UConn brand that is synonymous with winning and toughness. For example a player who is attracted to a program like Dook is unlikely to feel drawn to UConn and vise versa. Dook just reeks of prima donna while UConn's image is bring your lunch pail, take the stairs and if you're an escalator type, don't even think about being a Husky. Ooops, my reply definitely went off the tracks, didn't it? :(

as was stated many moons ago; most all burger boys want showcasing without the ten plus digits involved therefore they run & hide when the big dogs come calling so no matter how many titles UCONN reels off there will never be a recruiting windfall -UCONN will continue to shine in OLLLywood with Ollie guys and when Ollie gets the whole roster filled with Ollieites; look out world

UConn's close proximity to Boston and NYC has been a help too. When you consider all the guys we've had and currently have that came from those areas, location has been very good for us. Kemba, Taliek, Adrien, Bazz, Omar, Villanueva, Gordon, Facey, AJ, Samuel and hopefully Jalen Adams, all these guys are 1-2 hours from home. We have the perfect location for city players to be away from home but close enough for friends and family to visit and attend games regularly.

Supposedly 'Cuse only has one scholarship left for 2015. If Diagne takes it, then one of Derrick Jones' dream schools is taken away from him and could open things up for UConn(if you believe that they are recruiting him). Also could open things up for Thomas Bryant if the staff wants to enter the mix there as well.

They do get an inordinate amount of press for a school that has had the relatively marginal succes (compared to a big time major) that they've had. Kids with NBA aspirations like exposure.

That and fan enthusiasm is ridiculous. They even print Tshirts for #1 rankings and 25-0 regular season starts. Can't knock the hustle. OK, you can, but you get my point.

Slightly upsetting. He'd been playing as well as anyone lately. Nonstop motor was what I loved, it's too bad we couldn't bring him in but their are still options out there.

And personally, I don't care who he chooses if it's not us. I do hate Memphis more though because they make me think of calipari.

They get the press because they are a broadcast journalism mecca. Alums. They are to journalism what we are to basketball. They do great things with t-shirts and marketing while we win championships.
