Why wouldn't it be a BE decision or is UConn considered the host school? Just curious and have no ulterior motive in asking.

Pretty sure it has nothing to do with UConn and much to do with Mohegan Sun
That's what I figured as well and there are relatively very few places with mask requirements in this state.

It’s not up to either the BE or UConn. As a private business the Mohegan Sun sets their own guidelines, subject to state regulations. The state of CT recently relaxed the state’s mask mandate effective Feb 28 in schools across the state, including UConn, from “required” to “recommended.” I suspect the Mohegan Sun is simply following suit.

Thanks @oldude . I somehow missed your earlier post in this thread that would have made my post unnecessary.

Please be aware that the Norwich area is still experiencing high transmission rates. Most casino employees live in the surrounding towns.

I don't even think Mohegan is subject to State Regulations. Isn't it part of an independent nation? It's a reservation owned by the Mohegan Tribal Nation.

For the 1 regular season game at Mohegan Sun on 12/19, no one wore a mask. I'm not sure what the UConn policy was at the time, and that game was probably pre-Omicron. If you stop and think about it, before and after the game you are walking through tens of thousands of gamblers, none of which are wearing a mask. No way Mohegan Sun would do anything to discourage gamblers. Does it make sense to require a mask during the game?

Have been to Mohegan Sun often including the December Louisville game, no masks required

Excellent question. The Mohegan are a federally recognized tribe and the area around Uncasville, including the Mohegan Sun, is their sovereign nation. So yes, the tribe sets their own rules.

True, but guess who owns all of the roads leading to their casino? Kind of like "that's a nice casino you have there it would be a shame if no one could get to it."

The casinos pay the state a percentage of slots revenue for the infrastructure, hundreds of millions of dollars. No roads, no revenue. How will that fly in Hartford?

And that is true, but I don't think all those with economic lifelines to that casino would be very forgiving with roads being held hostage. I would be very surprised if they haven't written a check in advance to the state for use of those roads. I think the casino has the economic and political advantage, beyond their independence, in this scenario.

It was the reasoning used when trying to get them on board for the Covid shutdowns in March 2020 which they initially resisted. When Covid was running rampant in the country's initial wave, the last thing the governor was concerned about was slot revenues.

IMO that Connecticut COVID map is very misleading. The "red" zone represents 15+ cases per 100,000. That is a very minuscule amount to be classified as "red".

There is a big difference between 15 cases and 100 cases. Some more colors or a bigger range in the colors would be much more informative.
