No from Geno

Not a single one of your counterpoints is valid. And you sound like an imbecile.
Why has this touched such a nerve for you?

People are legitimately debating whether we should hire Tom Crean, the Vermont coach or the St. Bonaventure coach if we miss out on Hurley. All guys with exactly 0 gravitas walking into a recruit’s home. Yet a HOF coach who turned down Oklahoma men and the NBA is such a ridiculous notion.

Yes. It is.

Geno was never coaching the men. Those that suggested so are morons. There is a post trail of your idiocy and you know who you are.

Wow, you make it sound like we supported Hitler before the war. All Geno had to do was say yes and the job was his apparently so it was hardly a far fetched idea.

and BTW Geno's system offense is basically the same offense used by Nova, Wichita State, and even Golden State, but it would never work for UCONN men according to some clowns on this board who apparently would rather see four men standing around and one man dribbling the ball.

Geno said no so can we stop it will only get ugly?

Geno is a HOF coach in the women’s game, the best ever. He’s staying there, all good.

What would they say is inaccurate? I don’t think any one of those points is a slight.
Yes but it would be great to see what happens after people disagree and you start calling them names. Now those would be slights.

LMAO at thinking Geno has no ties in the world of men's college basketball.
Sure, ok, go ahead and really believe that.

Some of you are truly hopeless.

Right -- getting Kobe, Kyrie, Barkley, Calipari on his podcast. Geno can't connect with anyone in men's basketball....

I know he'd never do it, and I wouldn't advocate hiring him, but a part of me would just love to see it just to see how it turns out.

You can doubt him all you want, but he knows how to run a motion offense, which is already better than the guy we're firing.

I guarantee there are some D1 men players who would want to see what it's like to play for Geno. Dude's a legend. You think he can't pull in a recruit or two? Come on.

There is a lot more downside to Geno trying to coach men.

If he fails it puts a black mark on Geno, and actually the Womens game as a whole.

Geno is smart enough to know that.

Perception and reality are two different things. Auriemma being plucked from the women’s team to coach the mens could be viewed as a statement as to the credibility of womens’ basketball, if you’re insistent upon such nonsense.

To me the question you should be asking is whether or not Auriemma can recruit the best talent available. He clearly can. Can he motivate them and get the most from them. Yep on both.

Would he take the job? Hell no.

Only until the first sub .500 season

I really wish Geno would give it a shot. I don't think it would be, as he says, like starting all over again at age 35 because he has a wealth of experience now. If he wanted to (and he says he doesn't) I believe he could rebuild this program within a few short years and hand it off to a successor should he wish to retire at age 68 or so. He says he could do it and would enjoy it but I can understand how he might feel about making such a big change at this point in his career. However, deep down I'd love to see him as men's coach just to see how his success translates to the men's side- and I really believe it would. Basketball fundamentals and things like hard work, discipline, and execution are universal and for these reasons I believe Geno would excel on the men's side.

However likely / unlikely event that’d be, there’d potentially be several reasons for that “sub .500 season.” At any rate, the judgment would occur when the best coach in women’s basketball is asked to fill in for one of the better men’s programs in the country. If, after he recruited a bunch of (presumably) great athletes and his style did not resonate with the men as well as it does the women, then that’s more an indictment of the disparity of the two games, not on any particular coach, gender or even the mens or women’s games themselves.

He has no recruiting experience or ties in the men's world.
He won't have a roster with all-star starters and 5 star recruits lining the bench.
He won't have a 50 pt lead every single game.
He has no experience or proven success coaching the men's game and what he does now, does not translate over apples to apples.

Should I go on?

Kobe Bryant face timed him last year during the tourney because his daughter loves the women's team. I'd take a tie to the men's game like that any time :) Does that mean he'd be able to recruit.. no, not a direct link, but I'm sure he has avenues and connections all over the men's game in different places. It'd be just as crazy to say he has no connections as it is to say he could hit the ground running.explain

That said.. it's not happening. So really no point in investing time on either side to try and prove one side or the other right/wrong.

Fair or not (and I would stipulate that much of it would be unfair) Geno coming in and not succeeding at the Mens game pretty quickly would in fact open up a can of worms about "hes only a great womens coach" and "Womens basketball is much easier to succeed in than men's" issues. Really a no win situation for him because anything less than absolutely stellar seasons and deep runs would open up that can of worms.

Luckily for Geno, and Womens basketball, he is too yellow-bellied (and in another way savvy about keeping his current status intact) to try.

Oh. So, Kobe Bryant reached out because of his daughter so.....Geno can outrecruit the Izzo's and Calipari's and K's of the world. It's posts like yours that just further discredit the women's fan base.

I said right in my post that connections and ties don't mean anything as it's not a correlation to recruiting. I guess you didn't read that far. Example: Kevin Ollie. Ties everywhere, didn't do much for him. I don't know why you're so butt hurt over the topic.. it's a fantasy discussion. It's not going to happen. Geno's on easy street with the women and probably has 100% freedom to do as he likes. Why would he give that up?

Seriously? From the "purists" standpoint, it is good basketball. It helps that we generally have the best 10 players in the building every game and the best coach in the history of women's basketball. That being said, do I want to watch it? God no.
You won't watch the UConn women? It would be the perfect antidote for the dry heaves from watching the UConn men. Or at least a palliative.
