No blaming the refs!

There were no egregious calls late in the game.
You mean compared to the one with 32 seconds left in regulation.

That call took the ball from UConn, fouled out Stef and didn't send Kelly to the line for Skylar's contact with Kelly prior to impact with Stef. No one call is a whole game but that was truly a putrid call. There were ample opportunities to win despite that call but it doesn't make it any less a horrendous that changed the game situation completely. Up by 1 with the ball in Kelly's hands and a 6 second clock/shot clock variance I like our chances. 75 from the basket DeMayo decides to change the game with a call the announcers struggle to understand.

I thought Stef was moving into the screen...she did a good job of trying to sell that she wasn't moving by hugging her body with her arms...but, apparently it wasn't a good enough job...I'm with those posters who are asking why she set the screen in the first place and if you are going to do it...stand still and don't move...nothing difficult in not moving...we were up 6...why risk anything.

You want a bad call I'll give you one...how about the rebound that KML and the ND player both had in their hands, they go to the ground together and KML gets called for travelling. That is a held ball, possession arrow call...now way it was a travel.
Watch it again her foot is down before contact and she is in position at least 3 frames before impact. It easily could have been called against Skylar because she she was bumping Kelly before she hit Stef. As it was there is little impact with Stef. Watch the jerseys and skin displacement. Kelly applied the perfect wipe off against a set Stef. DeMayo blew the call.

I agree no blaming the Refs. Notre took a play out of the Baylor handbook... Hit Dolson in the throat and then make sure she is the one they call the foul on!!!! Also, I missed Geno's T. Supposedly he was on the court. Did anyone see what happened? Was he warned? Seemed to be a quick jump to the T.

ND is very good. McBride pulled several shots out of her rear. Yet making one more FT and UConn wins. However, the so called moving screen was at most marginal and is basically never caled on that kind of move. The Doty 5 second call where Diggins clearly(if we are going to cite replays) pushed at her arm was a bad call. These calls all occurred when ND desperately needed the ball. Unfortunately UCOnn could have avoided all of that. Some if the 10 shot foul difference was UConn missing the front end of 1 ands.

That's inaccurate Nan. The "jump ball" call when Caroline was mauled with ND players MAYBE getting a finger on the ball ??????? I thought that was egregious and late.

Not the main reason we lost though.
Yea that one too.

UCONN lost this game because they could not make free throws! END OF DISCUSSION

Agreed. If we had one more free throw in the first overtime... or if we had found a way to have one more point in regulation.... But alas it was not meant to be.

sure FTs cost the game, what about the 30 something turnovers ? is that on another thread ?

As you may have implied Nan, the call against Stef would not have been called in the first half. It was as innocuous a moving screen as we see these days and is not called 95% of the time. The refs gave us many chances to win the game. They can't shoot the foul shots for us.

Not blaming any ref nor player. Notre Dame's program is something I respect.

Don't like seeing the team lose but love the nail biters like this and wish there were more programs around the country like UConn, Notre Dame, Baylor and others, so we could see even more. I am sure I am in the minority.

However, you are not alone.

When I watched last night I actually thought Stef might have moved. But watching it this morning on replay she didn't move. And Diggins definitely flopped and exaggerated the impact in order to get the call. It worked. It was definitely a bad call, but there was no reason for Stef to be setting that screen. I know she's trying to help out her teammate but it wasn't a good decision with 4 fouls and knowing the player she's screening is going to add some drama in order to get the call. It worked.
