Nils Machowski visiting today

I believe that the deleted earlier thread had a post that said his team was awful defensively, but that he was net neutral, which suggested he was better than his teammates and that he'd project favorably on a notably better defensive team. Speculation was that he'd respond to coaching and greater emphasis on defense.
I caught that, thank you. Happy Spring haiku man

I agree with you. I'm hoping that the staff views Silas, County, Soph Braylon, Jayden, and Landrew as guys who can get downhill. We literally had no one, like nobody (with Silas at like 60%), in the tourney who could consistently take someone off the dribble and create, and were relegated to jumpshooting and Tarris. I'm banking on the returnees stepping up that aspect of their game.
Basically every clip of Landrew is him opposing his will upon defenders

If Nil's chooses UCONN it is of my opinion that he will put himself in a position to build a bright future. With UCONN's strong winning culture, elite coaching and national exposure, the Huskies consistently develop players who thrive under pressure and improve their all around game. Competing at a high level in big moments can sharpen his skills and prepare him for opportunities beyond college.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is UConn now 3-for-3 with transfer additions once they officially visit? If so, that's just lethal precision.

I love how Hurley and his staff don't have a wide net, but when they focus in, they snipe.
Yeah we aren't Kentucky in this regard. LOL!

Put this in the other thread before it got nuked...

Kid shot 38% on high-volume. Many of those 3's in the highlight video posted were deeeep. He and Mullins will stretch the defense next year.

Nils was basically a net-neutral defender on a HORRIBLE defensive team (Wofford KP #311). Another poster showed that he was a slight positive when he played for UCF.

Wofford's offense and defense were slightly better when he was on the court:

In the 3 games they played vs Top 100 NetRtg teams, the stats were not substantially worse, FWIW:

I think he has GREAT potential to be a Joey California type player for us, getting 8-15/game based on matchups, need, and whether he's on fire that particular night.

Seal the deal, Danny!

I get it but have you watched how a hurley offense operates? It’s not a trait that’s high on his list
Yup, and you’re not wrong Hurley’s offense isn’t really built around one guy just going iso and breaking people down every trip.
I just think having someone who can do it when things get stagnant wouldn’t hurt. Just as a change up when you need a bucket late in the clock. Every now and then you need a guy who can go make something out of nothing.

Killing time while my kid naps, so I went and watched Wofford’s game against Auburn from early in the season. Pretty much ignored his defense since that entire Wofford team was an absolute dumpster fire defensively.

Hard to get too much of a feel for his shooting. Auburn’s D was smothering and the blew up pretty much every action the tried to run to get Nils open. He was only 2/8 but most of those shots were contested off the dribble shots because Wofford just couldn’t get anything going. He can clearly shoot though and would be far less of a focal point at UConn.

What I was most interested in was his handle. He was a clear second or third option as the creator but had quite a few possessions where he ran point, including several bringing the ball up against full court pressure. Really nice looking handle with both hands and a decent passing ability (maybe a little over aggressive at times). He got into the lane a bit to dish and used screens well but definitely is not a guy that’s going to put the ball on the deck and get to to the rim against high level D1 competition. All in all, would love to have him on board. I think the ideal scenario is County comes in and earns the backup PG role, but Nils would hedge against a tough transition there as another guy that can handle the ball and has played point. If County takes the role, Nils can still be a useful bench piece as a Joey C type 3 point specialist.

Following Braylon Mullins on Instagram. I absolutely love this kid for UConn and he raises the bar on this team. Confident player who can handle the ball in backup point guard duties, can really shoot/score the ball, a lot of good cutting to the hoop in his videos, and he's a very good rebounder for a guard. He fills so many needs we have in another guard and he will play a lot.

I assume his handle is better than AM, then is he confident, doesn’t get rattled by a press which several teams in the BE will do.
Not to mention being able to handle the grabbing and pushing he will face in the BE as he comes off screens/physical defense of the 3 point line.

I imagine he’ll slide into the Joey C role, efficient shooter, who may struggle defensively, off the bench.

No. No. No.
No struggle. That's not allowed. 😉

True. But with Tristen Newton in the line up, he often saved the offense with late offense.

Thanks @WhereistheDove?. That answered my questions much better than @Fishy.

Like in a perfect alternate reality orrr what?? cause We’re going after a backup PF now and that’s it. county and Nils are the backup ball handlers. To post something like this either means you haven’t been following along or you’re just being obstinate
No it means that was my opinion 4 hours ago when I wrote it. Thats not being obstinate it’s having an idea that several others seems to agree with. To post what y did seems to imply you incorrectly think y are omniscient and provides zero value

seeing a lot of Joey California comps, but Nils looks thicker and more of a complete player. Looks like he’s about 20 lbs bigger than Joey was. My expectations will be higher for him if we get him, and think he’ll get a good deal more than the 8-10 mins a game that’s being thrown out

.-.
He's got a nice quick release, not Mullins quick, but pretty good. Can't tell from the highlights whether he is primarily a spot up shooter or if he can shoot off the dribble off screens as well.
