If he picks up the offense quickly, he can bring one of the big things we were missing last year, which was a shooter that can run of screens and then if the shot isn’t there, put the ball on the floor and create. Mullins showed some flashes of the that towards the end of last season but we were otherwise very deficient in that area. If Mullins can take a big step forward as well, the back court should be in a really good spot.

2 - Braylon (Soph) > Solo (Junior)
3 - Jayden (Senior) > Braylon (Frosh)
4 - Nik (Soph) < Alex (Senior)
5 - Najai (Soph) < Tarris (Senior)

Bench??
Oskar (Soph) > Reibe (Frosh)?
Nils (Senior) > Malachi (Senior)?
Colben (Frosh) > Jaylen (Junior)?
Junior (Frosh) > Alec (Senior)?
Backup PF? > Dwayne (Senior)?

It seems obvious we are taking a step back at the 4-5 position but hoping our other guys both starters and bench are an improvement from last year. If Mullins is not an upgrade from Ball at the 2 then we are in trouble. I am expecting a big jump from Mullins. The bench is a big question mark at every spot but there is potential for improvement at every spot it seems. Is Oskar better than Reibe? Is Nils better than Malachi? Is Colben better than Jaylen? (they aren't exactly the same position). I'm trying to talk myself into a lot of players making a jump and some freshman being good, but hard to compete with last year.

He should be. However, the kid from Duke can get to the rim and Silas can too, Nils can also get in the lane, at least in previous stops. I’m looking forward to seeing a healthy and aggressive Silas with a green light to score. I really hope the staff impresses on him that it’s ok to be just a little greedy sometimes.

The problem with these comparisons is the different roles will prob be way different given that Tarris was the centerpiece of the team last year and as good as Hines may be there’s only one Tarris and they won’t be used exactly the same

The middle one is defensive. Nils was the 11th best player in the SoCon while Ball the 19th in the Big East but had better offensive, defensive and overall metrics than Machowski.

Virtually every player on Wofford had a negative number here, though. At some point, if your team is bad defensively, you're getting dinged at least in part because of more than just your own ability

Our 2 new 5's will have very different roles than Tarris. To evaluate them against Tarris you'd have to evaluate them against how well they perform within their role. I'm expecting nay sayers to be pleasantly surprised by the contributions from the 5 next year.

And yest, I am saying the same thing as BGeus4, agreeing wholeheartedly.

My hope - and belief - is that Silas and especially Mullins take such massive steps forward that we're better than last year.

With the freshmen, I like how this roster is put together a little more than I liked last years....but really hard to overlook the loss of AK and Tarris. Tarris was up and down until he decided to become a monster in the NCAAs. Tough guys to replace, but I think talent always wins out and our backcourt looks like a killer next season.

Now, someone go get an athletic power forward.

We’re also really focused on offensive comparisons (and I get it since that lagged behind), but we should absolutely be quite a bit better defensively. Mullins for Ball and Ross/Landrew at the 3 for Mullins will be a big step up.

I'm beyond thinking about defense with Hurley. We literally could not get a stop if our lives depended on it during the season and we collectively had the least impressive looking UConn defensive team in an age and then Dan Hurley gets to the title game on the strength of our defense.

Going forward, I am just assuming that we're going to be very good defensively by the time March rolls around.
 
What is with the Cam Spencer comparisons? Does it make us feel good inside or something? Do we realize that Cam Spencer not only won a National Championship for UConn, but also has become an a starter in the NBA- coming off a 11.1ppg 5.6ass a game while shooting 45% from three.

Do a number of you think Nils is going to become a starter in the NBA?

I would imagine zero percent do.

With that said, please stop with those comparisons & I still think Nils is going to have a positive impact on 2027 season for the Huskies- let’s go UConn!!!

AK was a lot more up and down than Tarris. They will both be missed and we should take a little step back in froncourt offensive production. Tarris was our best player and we could always run things through him and AK was great for leadership and intangibles...

We're constructed differently than this past season but the starting lineup makes more sense and we should have even more answers if Braylon and Silas make their expected jump (best starting backcourt in America) and Landrew is as good as advertised. My only question marks are if we're a little too short in the frontcourt and if County is ready to handle the load as Silas backup but Nils should alleviate some of those concerns.

Team should be awesome defensively.

Agreed, backcourt looks killer. Have watched 4 full Wasatch games for County plus the Sea World All Star game. He was Wasatch’s go to guy, didn’t bring the ball up so he could go into off ball screen actions. County always looks composed, takes smart shots(what the scheme creates and what the defense gives him), everything in rhythm, not forced. Think he will be more composed and physically ready than people think. Machowski will be awesome.

Need the big 4. We get that piece, I can’t see many cracks in the lineup.

Thx...that section about how he struggled against top competition is a bit troubling to me. At 6'3 180 he's slight

Means nothing. Struggled against Auburn and George Mason and was good against Wichita State and Furman.
 
Nils will be surrounded by more talent on this team than at his previous stops-Teams won't be able to focus their defense on him -And he'll be in an offensive system that will provide him with opportunities for frequent open looks . He'll be a valuable bench piece that's capable of giving us a lift offensively when needed as well as ball-handling support. Can play loose without a ton of pressure. Coach's son who gets it. A lot to like in his profile.

Was very early in the season, though. Team probably still coming together at that point.
