Nils Machowski Committed!

Welcome aboard!! Instant offense off the bench, excited to see him light it up from three!

It is the lazy comparison to "Joey C." that creates the need to compare him to Spencer. One was a chucker from 3 and the other was a CG (capable of playing the point). Machowski is a CG (capable of the playing the point) not a 3-and-little-to-no-D.

I felt like JoeyC developed some nice chemistry with Clingan on the pick and roll. I remember some pretty nice lobs. Obviously his primary role was gunslinger but I was impressed that he’d show more than that sometimes and became a little unpredictable. He was a great bargain pickup. When he signed at the time, I looked at him the same way we looked this past year at Millender or Koroma, and then he was out there bombing threes in a nattie.

Cam was a unicorn. A couple buckets from 50-40-90 with a 3:1 assist to turnover ratio that grew to 4:1 in the second half of the year. He reached levels of efficiency we might never see again.

Why don't we just say he's a poor man's Spencer and then see what we actually got once we finally get to see him play.

I do agree, that he has a more all around game than Joey Buckets.

He’s white, the same size and these people have cotton candy in their heads.

You’ll get used to it.
Also, it helps people to forget that two weeks ago there were reports that Kahmenia was a Cam-like psycho (in a good way).

It never ceases to amaze me how annoying these pointless minute distribution exercises are

You really need to get to the conference realignment board.

You haven’t live until you’ve seen someone reimagine the conference landscape. (You’d be impressed how often UConn lands in the Big Ten.)

Don't really like any player comparisons and think it's setting Nils up for failure to compare him to Cam, but it is worth noting he played in the Big 12 the 2 years prior to his junior year. Albeit it with subpar results
Cam was just built different…you felt like he was going to make every big shot they needed…amd he let the other team know it. God he was fun to watch!

Yeah, but Joey California was a dreadful defender too and even fell out of the rotation entirely in January, until he became serviceable by March. Having 2 elite rim protectors is key. Plus Nils is a great rebounder. Having guards who can rebound so the bigs can get up the floor in transition is something that we were lacking the last 2 years.
JOEY C was on fire and the start and end of the season and ice cold in the middle. When he was hot he was a key part of the team. Had he not had that ice cold stretch his offense would have kept him in the rotation. Nils had a few incredible nba jams on fire 🔥 games last year. If he can have a few of those next year he will be a real asset.

When's the last time we went five pages without a single post from a certain Dusty May fanboy?

I'll bet $50K on kalshi right now that he's already got multiple posts typed out but is debating sending because they all have the word "honkey" in them and that ish didn't go over well the last 6 times he's tried it. His backup is "Coach K method" so we'll see if he drops that instead.

And Diara was no slouch either.
I think Diarra gets underrated by many on The BoneYard. He was more than an adequate starting PG even for 2025 when healthy. The issue was when there was no suitable back up PG he got the chronic knee injury for the last 2 months so he was hot and cold depending on if his knee flared up for a particular game.

Spot on!

We're going to be so H dominant next season with Hines, Khamenia, Giltay, and Machowski.
I'm not sure Machowski qualifies. It's very possible he uses a German pronunciation (ch would sound like ck in English) not a Polish (hard h) pronunciation.

Only mean a type of player, in terms of his strengths/game, not nearly as good of course. Did you see Hornacek play? A 2g who could handle the point, high efficiency, smart connector, excellent shooter, heady. I was saying he was more of that style of player than a comp to Cam, which I dont see at all. His impact will be Joeyish most likely, but I think he may be better.
Yeah I totally get it. I just think people forget how good Jeff was! I never saw him in person, but definitely watched on TV. I am, unfortuantely, a knicks fan. Been a great few years, but man...

Cam had 25 points in his third game at UConn. His first games against high major competition at UConn he had 18/5/2 against Indiana, 16/5/5 against Texas, he could barely walk at Kansas and had a bad game and then followed it up with 23/7/6 against North Carolina.
Cam could always score. He can roll out of bed and make a 3.
I remember watching all those games and for the first third of the season hoping his 'd' or lack of at the time wouldn't limit his time on the floor. His shooting is/was top tier, but you have to be on the floor and we know how much Hurley values defense.
He was good, even very good in the beginning overall, and especially on the offensive end, but he looked like a matador at times defensively the first 1/3 of the schedule as well.
Once he picked it up on defense, it helped take the team to a new level. His improvement on defense, Castle and Clingan getting healthy just made that team truly special. They had what, 1 loss with a future lottery pick out and Cam hobbled and another, where another lottery pick went down with a foot injury. There only really bad loss was when they didn't show up for Creighton.

Back to Machowski, what stands out on the limited film I've seen of him is that he is almost always moving. I think he'll be able to fit into the offense pretty quickly, which means hopefully, Hurley & staff can spend more time coaching him up on the defensive end.

He was a man. His name was Joey Calcaterra. His name was Joey Calcaterra. His name was Joey Calcaterra.
