Nils Machowski Committed!

Obviously, he's not close to Cam, but I have higher expectations than being Joey California 2.0, considering he only averaged 5.6 PPG here. Nils is 20 lbs bigger and appears to have more of an all-around game.

I don’t understand any comparisons to Cam besides this being a portal added guard.
He can shoot like Cam and is a combo guard? Yeah I don't see similar game outside of that. Cam is bigger and can create his own shot with a bunch of moves inside the arch.

Somehow he is a worse defender than Solo, BUT he was asked to play the SF and the PF (!!) last year for Wofford at times. It will help having Hines and Giltay behind him
Yuk

.-.
Yeah but... this is so much more rewarding than loading up on 23 year old Euro pros....

Love it. He’s got a good handle and will be able to take some pressure off County being the only backup option at PG. I do think people should cool down on the Cam comparisons. He’s not that level of player and I think that’s setting an impossibly high bar for him. Still a great addition for the team.
Exactly. Cam is one of the best shooters and passers in the world. This kid should be helpful

Yeah, but Joey California was a dreadful defender too and even fell out of the rotation entirely in January, until he became serviceable by March. Having 2 elite rim protectors is key. Plus Nils is a great rebounder. Having guards who can rebound so the bigs can get up the floor in transition is something that we were lacking the last 2 years.

Cam was awesome from day 1 at UConn, he was awesome at Rutgers too.
If we're talking attitude, Cam was awesome from day 1.
If we're talking game, I'd say he was good. There were a few moments when many around the Boneyard, including I, wondered about his 'D' ability and if that would limit his playing time or be a weakness to exploit.
I give Cam so much credit because he was a senior who let himself continued to be coached by Hurley and staff and by the end of the season, that concern about his 'D' was absolutely gone.

Great positional rebounder and shooter/scorer.

His Wofford highlights are pretty low res, but he looks to have good size in his UCF film. Bigger than Joey California and Aiden Mahaney.

Seems like another excellent pickup. The team is looking well rounded.

Machowski and County as guards off the bench will be good.

County just played in the inaugural Sea World All American game (Landrew too) and overall looks to be a freshman that can provide immediate value off the bench.

Machowski takes a lot of pressure off County to acclimate to the level of competition at the start of the season, and with the scoring numbers we’ve seen, Nils could be the x-factor that puts us over the top in some of these high profile non-con matchups and Big East slug fests.

Cam had 25 points in his third game at UConn. His first games against high major competition at UConn he had 18/5/2 against Indiana, 16/5/5 against Texas, he could barely walk at Kansas and had a bad game and then followed it up with 23/7/6 against North Carolina.

What are you basing this on?
metrics.

The middle one is defensive. Nils was the 11th best player in the SoCon while Ball the 19th in the Big East but had better offensive, defensive and overall metrics than Machowski.

Watching some of his film and his defensive metrics (DBPR, DRtg, DBPM) are all significantly worse than Solo. Wofford was statistically better defensively with Nils off the court lol

Edit: I should clarify that Wofford was an atrocious defensive team and Nils was literally playing PF for them at times. They had absolutely zero size. But Nils is way way way more comparable to Solo/Joey California's defensive abilities than a guy like Spencer (who wasn't an elite 1 on 1 defender, but a really good team defender). We brought this guy in for his shooting, rebounding, and extra ball handling. Not for another defensive guard.

Just C could change a game quicker than almost anyone I’ve ever seen .
If this kid id him then its a great get for a coming off your bench
But it’s a bigger Jump than Joey C had to make just because the portal has widened the gap between conferences .

I haven't watched him, but I did read something saying he struggled to stay in front of people.

Don't get me wrong -- I like the pick-up, for the reasons you stated.

He’s white, the same size and these people have cotton candy in their heads.

You’ll get used to it.
Cam is a bigger guy, probably outweighs him by 25 lbs. but yes people will do the white guy comparison every time.
