Oh the butt hurt that Payday must be feeling over in Cinci has got to be epic. I bet he openly cried when KO was cutting the net last night.

On Syracuse:

Every single Syracuse fan I know in real life is super awesome. Respectful towards UConn, wishes them luck when they are playing in the tournament, and wishes we were in a real conference. I'm not afraid of competition: I'd love to play Syracuse more frequently, and to be the same conference as them (although now my preference is the B1G).

Their board is full of many jealous haters. But they don't represent all fans.

That said, I can't believe I'll be the first to post this here:

4>1

:)

I was hosted last night, as with 2011, by a Syracuse grad: part of the mojo. Once he gets over SU's disappointing exit from the tournament, he's more than happy to root for UCONN, and very supportive of my enthusiasms. He even mentions that his MBA is from UCONN. He may yet come around for the full season, but it's a slow process. I can wait.

Syracuse is so far behind UCONN, we can't even see them in the rearview any more. The NCAA can put UCONN back in the Yankee Conference and it wouldn't matter. We're meeting another President (actually, going back to say hello!) and they are paying millions of dollars to make claims that they are New York's team while watching UCONN dominate MSG from their couches that are located over 6 hours away.

Just remind him a master's degree is more valuable than a bachelor's degree.

Going into, he knew that Cronin could guide a team to the sweet 16, but wasn't sure how Ollie would perform. Now, has his answer and a benchmark for how an Ollie coached team can perform in the NCAAT.

Remember that Syracuse poster who suggested we should get in as much 3 > 1 jabs as we can because we won't see the 3 change for a looooooong time and that they are on the rise. Then he/she said their program just got off from a final four "appearance" and boldly said, "What have you guys done lately!?!"

Wonder what happened to that person? Hmmmmmm....

We've only won 2 national championships.

100% true.

I've met and have spent time with a lot of folks from the Syracuse board.

Without exception, they're terrific people, they're charitable people and they love the Orange.

I don't visit the board anymore and I certainly don't post on it - there's an element there, (as there is here), that is just too irrational to deal with a fan from elsewhere. That's sort of a shame given that we started the board for them - I was the original holder of the Syracusefan.com URL back in 2002 or so.

That said, I've started to enjoy trolling dasher without even visiting their board. It's just easy and he takes bait like a half-starved roach in a roach motel.

Funny listening to people on other boards complain that we've beaten 2 eight seeds in our last two title games. Since UNLV lost to Duke, only 2 teams have entered the FF with 30-game win streaks. Duke in 1999 and Florida this year. See if you can determine what those teams have in common. And not blue uniforms - they have different shades.

Kansas fans got me by talking about how bad the FF was in 2011, compared to when they won when four one seeds made it. Well, Kansas could have done something about that vs VCU. And Davidson had a 3 in the air to beat them the year they did win.

My favorite part of the Syracuse board is that they're rationalizing this by talking about how the only reason we've won more championships than them is because they have better players than us, particularly their guards, thus they leave earlier. I guess they're ignoring the fact that they two four year starters in Jardine and Triche there at the same time.

I don't know any of them on that board personally, but a number of them used to post over here (CTO especially), and they were just fine.

Things somewhere along the line--maybe mid-late 2000s--went down hill.

It really is strange, we could have had Andre Drummond and Jeremy Lamb on this team.

CTO comes to my house for Christmas - at this point, she's family and has been for years.

But you're right - we can complain about the Syracuse board, but if she tried to post here, some internet tough guy would make it unpleasant for her...which is why she doesn't.

Here's the thing about the Syracuse board. There is a small group of them that bash UConn when they have the ammo and disappear when something like this happens. However, I think most of them over there accept that UConn has surpassed them. If they are angry, then it is almost always directed at Boeheim and the fact that they get their hopes up every year only to fall short.

Not gonna lie, if roles were reversed I'd be pissed off too.

Driving back late last night, my girl asked me (who is new to this whole thing) about Syracuse, being upstate NY's it's a logical question. She asked if we were rivals, and for the first time ever, I said, "NO they aren't rivals, the Lion doesn't concern himself with the feelings of the sheep"

That's how it is now Syracuse fans. You are hunted and we are the hunters

Syracuse = toilet paper.

When you need to drop a deuce reach for the Cuse.

Right. And I think the board misses consistent opposing points of view...That we don't get it is in part because we drive it away, and in part that some of what comes here is crazy. Although, I do read the Realignment board in part because some of the people who have come over and posted are pretty cool cats.

I frequent the Cuse board and I have to say that most of them have a lot of respect for our program and its accomplishments. Those who try to find ways to rationalize that their program is better, or that JB is better than Calhoun or Ollie are usually shot down.

Many Syracuse fans are waking up to regret that we are no longer in the same conference, which is rather ironic. What Syracuse and their fans failed to recognize is that without an arch-rival, victories are not as sweet. Syracuse will probably never be Duke or UNC's arch rival. Never. The novelty of Duke-Syracuse was great for one year, but it won't last because Cuse will never out-recruit Duke or even UNC.

BC made the same mistake. As did Florida State and Virginia Tech. You're only as good, or as interesting as your biggest rivalries. No one cares about beating a BC, or even being beaten by them. And no one in Syracuse is going to get excited about competing against Wake or Clemson, or even NC State. Yet Skins-Cowboys is still a big deal even when both teams are mediocre.

Syracuse has as much risk of fading into irrelevance as we do, perhaps more.

If Hopkins ends up as JC's successor, regardless how good a coach he is, the Orange are still going to lose attractiveness. UNC, UCLA and Indiana faded after their famed coaches retired, because they thought coaching was a monarchy and rewarded a loyal foot soldier. UConn's Ollie is the only Man-That-Followed-The-Man to succeed. And that happened because Calhoun cared enough that he made certain the right man took over for him. And he had to resort to drastic means to make it happen.

Sorry Cuse, but unless you get a top notch, and well-known, coach to succeed JB, you're going to serve time in basketball purgatory, if not hell. And if UConn ends up in the B1G, or even stays in the AAC, you lose. BC still doesn't recognize how UConn being in the ACC can lift their program, and they probably never will. In sports, you're only as good as your rivalries.

They're just now accepting that UConn has surpassed them? It happened like 10 years ago.

This is the kind of post that's not needed here. We're better. Be better with grace.

Just my snarky, sophomoric attempt to jab the BE rival I most respected prior to learning they actively lobbied against our ACC invite. I sincerely lost all respect for that program long ago because of that. No intent to gloat.

But you're probably right.

This is not an outrageous stance. Their athletic director bragged that he "had to tell the tale of Louisville" to the ACC. In that sense, Syracuse and Boston College seem proud of their efforts to diminish UConn. Conversely, all UConn has done to either is beat them.

But the average Syracuse fan had nothing to do with that.

It's actually kind of sad to think JB may be the downfall of Syracuse basketball. His recruits have not exactly been the brightest light bulbs.
