Ngongba Cuts UCONN

You guys are placing a lot of hope on the portal, if Karaban goes we have to replace 5 starters

That's true, but we're not going to need to find 5 starters in the portal. There's a good chance Solo Ball is starting at the 2, one or both of Ross and Stewart are starting on the wing, and Samson Johnson is our starting center

Ball sure sounds like the real deal, Johnson I gotta see it before I believe it. But we are banking on the other freshmen developing quick enough to start as sophomores, if they need longer that’s where we’re in trouble

I would be pretty surprised if Alex left. I think we'll need a top point guard in the portal, I'm not comfortable having the reins handed over to a freshman or Diarra. I have trouble buying that Solo is a point guard or will become one quickly as someone else said here.

It's fun to speculate but we have a national championship to defend.

It really depends on how you view that season. The truth is that it's incredibly hard to run out final four level teams year after year. Sometimes you decide that you are just going to make the tournament with a higher seed while your young guys develop, and if they surprise you, they surprise you.

Sure, you can portal guys, but if you portal a starting PG, does Nowell head to the portal himself? I'm ok rolling with him and Diarra or another veteran non-starter. We'd need another SG behind Solo as well.

If Alex stays we’ll be in better shape but I think you can only pencil in him and Ball as starters right now at least.

Officially picked Dook
Will be interesting to see if they recruit a top center for 2025

Their nil must be insane. The uptick in recruiting from where they were going from arguably the best coach ever to an unproven one is only explainable by the change in nil rules.

Duke’s collection of talent is preposterous.

Oh and so much for relationships meaning jack….UConn and KState both get the cold shoulder

On the flip side where else will this kid get to experience brotherhood. So there is that.

Flagg and him were probably coordinating. I don't get all these top recruits going to one school. There's only one ball, they split the points and drop in the draft. Why not go somewhere and be the star?

You do realize that we have done great in the portal the last 2 years, right? We do not win the National Championship without the 4 additions last year... and this year we brought in one of the top 5 transferring guards who is going to be a starter on our pre-season top 10 team.

With this coaching staff... I am willing to place my faith in them that they will find most if not all of the missing pieces they believe we have going into next year in the portal. My question to you is... After their recent track record, you don't?

Great is quite the stretch. We have used it to fill in holes. But this will be quite the jump. Hurley has shown the ability to adapt and I expect him to do the same here.

I think he’s done very well but I’d much rather have preferred if we could have recruited an Austin Swartz for multiple years than find a 2 guard in the portal. Who knows if he would have come here with a full court prioritization, but I wish we had gotten him.

We'll see this year. But Newton was objectively a great addition. I'd say Martin and Cole were damn good as well.

This team will almost certainly lose all three ofNewton, Clingan, and Castle. I'll worry about other things if we lose more (doubtful it would be to the draft). As of right now, if everyone comes back and performs around expectations, I'm not overly worried. Would have been nice to snag Ngongba and Flagg, but we have a lot of young kids on this team and Hurley has shown an ability to get the best out of kids.

I just don’t get it. Given all the obvious facts Duke is still piling up 5* and we are getting the next level. We are clearly the better program not even close since the turn of the century. We develop players as well as any program. And this has bothered me a lot with this last recruiting period. Now there is always more than one reason or answer to a complex issue. However, I offer the following as a major contributing factor. 4 out of 5, of these 5* may say they want tough coaching but that is just stock media answer. They have been catered to their whole lives and they truly don’t want any tough love. They want to strut through their one year in school. We just have never sold that cruise life story. No matter how much they say they do want to be coached hard, they just don’t. The only fact I have to support this theory is our success at winning national titles. Character and teamwork still trumps talent in college basketball.

Spencer is a great addition and Newton was last year as well. I think some of us are just saying we have a lot of needs to fill for next year if all starters are gone and it looks like 4 are at a minimum. What if the portal class is weak as some have said the high school class was? If we had another couple 4 stars coming in we’d have more options. We might need a Newton, Spencer and a starting Center next year in the portal.

How can duke lose with that kind of talent?
Eventually a team that starts 5 Freshman meets a team that has more experience, stronger, and almost as athletic. You can only teach Freshman so much in a year. When a team of Freshman get rattled they do what Freshman do. Start going one on one and take crazy shots. The only championship Kentucky won with all that talent was when their 5 stars came back for year 2.

Enjoy the ride people, we're fine, we'll always be fine, we're UCONN

Stop worrying about what we don't have, embrace what we do have

PS: And for the record, we're not winning the National Title every year, we're just going to win more than our fair share.

Arrogant and spoiled
