Ngongba Cuts UCONN

Why would he want to go to the defending champs, a program that deploys a pro system, and which has a recent history of improving big men? (see Whaley, Sanogo, DC). Young man does not want the heat that comes with being a Hurley player. I for one think he chose wisely.
Or maybe he just wants to go so where else. His list has Kentucky and Duke..so, I have a feeling it is not the unimaginable heat associated with Uconn that deterred him.

Unclear if related, but Dan Hurley possibly dropping more shade on Instagram this morning

I really don’t think Dan is petty enough to be throwing shade at a high school kid on social media. He posts a lot of things like this.

I’m not hung up on Ngonba, and I understand that we can’t land every target, but I am curious what the deciding factor was. At this point, I hope he picks Kansas State. Tang seems like a good dude.

Come on now. A lot of bitterness on these boards. We r better than that. A recruit does what THEY think is best for them and their family. Both us and dook bring good things to the table. We may not like them. They are “the evil empire”.Let’s just focus on us. We just won the natty for goodness sakes and have another contender. So …”Thank you, next. “

Betsy is 50/50 to transfer after he gets tired of nit
Betsy’s family really really wanted him to stay home and play for UConn the point being able to see him play in person 20 times a year and be a local sports hero and read about his exploits in the local media and on nightly sportscasts as opposed to almost never hearing about him in Connecticut ever again. Going from playing in front of family and friends for a couple of years and being a local sports star to an afterthought. One of my cousins is close friends with the family. Kind of a weird decision all things considered.

I certainly would hope not.
I would doubt it as well.

I'd say this is more a reminder to himself and others to keep moving forward.

Dan Hurley's history already shows an impressive record of adjustments in the wake of recruiting after losses, whether they were expected, anticipate, or surprising.

This seems like such a random post by Hurley, that it's odd. One possibility is if PN was expecting a starting position to be handed to him and mentioned it to Hurley as his reason for withdrawing, then I could see Dan Hurley posting this.

Come on. The same applies to the other schools. Kentucky and duke NEVER guarantee a starting position or specific minutes. Former players from both those schools have said just that. Can’t speak for K State though.
It’s just an inspirational post by Dan Hurley.
Everyone needs to stop disparaging the kid’s character.
And don’t think any coach would do so publicly
It would be a turnoff to future recruits.

I would hope Hurley is not throwing shade at a 16 year old on social media. Lmao. I’d be extremely disappointed if he was

He posts stuff like that all the time. It’s not a creative writing prompt for the BY, it’s just a shared ig post.

Isaiah is still locked in, so tread gently.

Also, I bet Tang is thrilled that he had to deal with a player situation on the weekend of an official.

Agreed. Seems pretty unlikely.

Well maybe you guys are right, but it does fit if Hurley wanted to accomplish both objectives.

Some guys are not right for UConn, especially guys that are a little too comfortable with their own hype and don’t want to work. You got have a certain mentality to want to play extended intense man to man for basically all game. Hurley will get what he needs or mold somebody into what he needs.
UConn has done remarkably well with 4 stars and elevating them to national champions. We can live with that easier than the fans of teams with multiple 5 stars and losing.

.-.
I agree with all of this and didn’t mean any trouble by posting/sharing. I certainly also hope (and think) it’s not directed, but rather reaffirmation of his own mentality and methods. It has worked to make us elite again, and it’s what will separate the elite from the good as we talk about who suits up for us.

Our NIL is really good. NIL might have something to do with it, there were probably other demands.

It's disappointing but the staff will pivot, they always do. Let's go out and win another title.
The NIL is certainly good but Hurley does not seem like the kind of guy to pay a ton for a recruit. Good for him, he has to worry about his own players reactions.

This ^^^ our bread & butter has always been high upside 4* top 75 kids, who are a bit unpolished at the start, but want to learn & develop over time.

If Clingan stays for junior year, or Samson Johnson develops into a star this year it doesn’t matter because we will have a great center next year. The position we most needed to recruit was a PG, and we recruited a great PG. There should be a talented group of wings and shooting guards to join them.
Also there are so many transfers now. There is plenty of time to add a player for next season.
This season we have a championship caliber team. we should be focusing on enjoying this season.

Ngongba is in a tough position no matter where he goes as the NBA doesn’t really want big men anymore unless they are really big 7’1 + or have guard skills. I can’t blame him if he just chased the biggest bag of money.

I can. Whatever reason he has I don’t really care. I’ll root against him the rest of his career. I hope he ends up in last place on a Turkish league team without a degree. The only players I wish well who aren’t on the team are former players who transferred due on good terms (Brendan Adam’s, Carlton etc.) or CT players that didn’t get recruited by UConn. I used to still root for all CT guys but not anymore.

I mean, his cousin is still coming. That and transfers happen a lot.
