I got a notice today from UConn that went to all season ticket holders advising them to hold off, they have reserved a block of tickets that will be made available to season ticket holders in a couple of months at a 10% discount.

Hopefully enough, hopefully well-placed.

So if you are a season ticket holder, take that into consideration.
Yup, I got that email too...after I had already bought my tickets. :( Frustrating that the email from UConn athletics didn't give any sense of where their block of tickets is. Oh well, I'll check out where the UConn block is when they're made available in a couple of months. If they're more appealing, I can always buy a new pair and resell the ones I bought in the presale (at the price I paid for them; I refuse to be party to the extortionate resale market).

Sorry to my Husky friends for ripping the Band-aid off those wounds....not my intention. If it makes you feel any better, UCLA got revenge for you on a late game screen call in our 2 point loss to them last month. This time an apparent illegal screen by Dugalic tripped Lucy Olsen with 3.8 seconds remaining in a tie game, who then fell into a UCLA teammate leading to a "blocking foul" and 2 FT's for the Bruins. FT's good; game over and 67-65 loss. We're over it but disappointing nonetheless. Let me whine so I feel better: rules state feet must be no wider than shoulder width on a screen; apparently Dugalic's shoulders are 5 feet wide:

Thanks for listening. Good luck in March Madness; lots of respect in Iowa for UConn.

A "picture" (or video) is worth 10,000 words. I can't imagine being "over it".
I'm a big Lucy fan. "I LOVE LUCY" (especially when she was not playing UCONN!)

Wow, Oldude, you had to bring this up. That argument bears no weight. If it isn't called and Aaliyah has blocked the defender's path to guard Paige, wouldn't that be potentially deciding the game? You're also assuming UConn would have scored in the next two seconds or so, a rather presumptive assumption.;)

Aaliyah had a long history at UConn of illegal screens, including one just a minute or two earlier that wasn't called. It's on Geno and UConn that they paid the price for not coaching her to do it correctly.
If someone wanted to reply to that last post, it would be very easy to show numerous times where Iowa set moving pics that were not called so to do it at that point of the game after not having done at all game long was ridiculous. True that the shot may not have gone in, but at least they’re probably would’ve been a shot which should have happened. And clearly the review shows that was an exaggeration on the screen which the refs fell for or are just incompetent

By the way, Maggie Vanoni indicates that UConn’s all time record vs Iowa is 6-4. That’s incorrect. UConn has only played the Hawkeyes 3 times, winning 2 and losing 1.
In recent years, yes, but UConn played Iowa back when C. Vivian Stringer was their head coach. I remember hearing an interview where Geno praised her for being willing to play a home and home with UConn when Iowa was a strong program and UConn was on the way up. This article mentions how one of her Iowa teams gave him "the worst loss of his career."

I stand corrected.

Actually I believe that the ref that called it should not be officiating any NCAA Tournament games this year and the other two should not officiate any after the first two rounds of the first weekend.

I was hoping we'd get the Vegas tournament. Not sure when it is. I love Vegas and I love UConn!

I recall that last summer The Boneyard was all on pins and needles waiting to see the final 24-25' schedule. The entire conference was being held up so that everyone could announce at once or something like that.

I have no inside information, but my assumption is that it was probably UConn that was the last to finalize the schedule, and it was a result of our Out of Conference scheduling. The long and the short of it is, that SEC teams, Big 10 teams, ACC teams, and Big 12 teams are all in the midst of their difficult conference schedule during the same portion of the season that UConn would like to play them. I saw comments from South Carolina and Tennessee, who both indicated that they had to really work to finagle their schedules to fit in the UConn game, and they were at undesirable timeframes for each of those teams. Given the matchups, given the T.V. publicity and previous commitments for the game they were obligated and got it done in January, but they didn't like it.

I guess my point is that it takes two to tango and I can imagine that several teams would likely entertain playing UConn, however only if that game were to occur prior to Christmas.

I have 2 thoughts on that particular call. My first thought is that technically speaking it was a moving screen. My 2nd thought is that no referee should ever make that call at that point in the game to effectively decide the outcome of the game.
Hard disagree. If it's a moving screen, it shouldn't matter when it happens in a game. The player caused the referee to to make the call.
Or, shall we just say, 3 minutes left, "NOTHING IS A FOUL! GO AT'EM!"

It's Thanksgiving weekend with South Carolina, UCLA, Texas and Duke playing a round robin and I believe that it is at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Interesting that your assumption is that Geno & co did not coach her to set a legal screen rather than Aaliyah simply made a mistake. I would call that a “presumptive assumption”!

Clearly, the screen was bad and even if it had been good, there is no guarantee Paige would have made a game winning shot. It is too bad though, that we did not get a chance to see it play out.

There is also no guarantee that Paige would have taken the shot. Edwards was unguarded on her roll to the basket; my bet is she would have received a pass for an easy layup.

Ugh, we schedule Ohio State and now Cotie McMahon jumps into the transfer portal.
Swerve from Transfer Portal thread: she might transfer to another of our opponents like SoCar, USC or ND
Swerve back

That was just a terrible call. Just utter nonsense.

Over on Volnation, a SC fan indicated that we will not be playing them next year. Anybody know anything about that?

Last year was a great opportunity to measure our team at that point in the season because you also got to see Iowa and Tennessee. From that game, I knew we would have a hard time with them when we played them. it's a good event and I will be there again this year for sure.

I’m always amused by the people who, when a player makes a mistake (especially in a big game) that is later debated/argued about, triumphantly trots out the “Geno/coaching staff should have coached her not to do that” as if that is the only reason a player could ever make an error. That’s a lot of coaching malpractice! Of course, there’s also the possibility that the player simply made a mistake in spite of being coached correctly. I tend to doubt that UConn, or any decent coaching staff, would fail to teach their players about screens.

I think that there are a lot of teams that would like to play UConn, however they would like that game to be before Christmas. Once the Power 4 Teams get into their conference schedule, the games are pretty difficult for them as is and they don’t want to also include UConn at that point in the season. Further UConn has one additional Big East conference game to schedule going forward.

What an innovative idea! This should shorten the last three minutes of games by at least 30 minutes.
Now may we all get back to the OOC schedule?

Or Azzi. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a coach so outwardly frustrated by another teams player. At one point in the second half Dawn was shaking her head and yelling “Fudd! Fudd! Fudd!” ;-)
Are you a 100% sure that she was yelling "Fudd! Fudd! Fudd!". Is it possible the last to letters were not correct?
