Sorry to my Husky friends for ripping the Band-aid off those wounds....not my intention. If it makes you feel any better, UCLA got revenge for you on a late game screen call in our 2 point loss to them last month. This time an apparent illegal screen by Dugalic tripped Lucy Olsen with 3.8 seconds remaining in a tie game, who then fell into a UCLA teammate leading to a "blocking foul" and 2 FT's for the Bruins. FT's good; game over and 67-65 loss. We're over it but disappointing nonetheless. Let me whine so I feel better: rules state feet must be no wider than shoulder width on a screen; apparently Dugalic's shoulders are 5 feet wide:

Thanks for listening. Good luck in March Madness; lots of respect in Iowa for UConn.

That was just a terrible call. Just utter nonsense.

Over on Volnation, a SC fan indicated that we will not be playing them next year. Anybody know anything about that?

Last year was a great opportunity to measure our team at that point in the season because you also got to see Iowa and Tennessee. From that game, I knew we would have a hard time with them when we played them. it's a good event and I will be there again this year for sure.

Wow, Oldude, you had to bring this up. That argument bears no weight. If it isn't called and Aaliyah has blocked the defender's path to guard Paige, wouldn't that be potentially deciding the game? You're also assuming UConn would have scored in the next two seconds or so, a rather presumptive assumption.;)

Aaliyah had a long history at UConn of illegal screens, including one just a minute or two earlier that wasn't called. It's on Geno and UConn that they paid the price for not coaching her to do it correctly.
I’m always amused by the people who, when a player makes a mistake (especially in a big game) that is later debated/argued about, triumphantly trots out the “Geno/coaching staff should have coached her not to do that” as if that is the only reason a player could ever make an error. That’s a lot of coaching malpractice! Of course, there’s also the possibility that the player simply made a mistake in spite of being coached correctly. I tend to doubt that UConn, or any decent coaching staff, would fail to teach their players about screens.

I think that there are a lot of teams that would like to play UConn, however they would like that game to be before Christmas. Once the Power 4 Teams get into their conference schedule, the games are pretty difficult for them as is and they don’t want to also include UConn at that point in the season. Further UConn has one additional Big East conference game to schedule going forward.

Hard disagree. If it's a moving screen, it shouldn't matter when it happens in a game. The player caused the referee to to make the call.
Or, shall we just say, 3 minutes left, "NOTHING IS A FOUL! GO AT'EM!"
What an innovative idea! This should shorten the last three minutes of games by at least 30 minutes.
Now may we all get back to the OOC schedule?

Or Azzi. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a coach so outwardly frustrated by another teams player. At one point in the second half Dawn was shaking her head and yelling “Fudd! Fudd! Fudd!” ;-)
Are you a 100% sure that she was yelling "Fudd! Fudd! Fudd!". Is it possible the last to letters were not correct?

She Fudd around and found out!

Okay I couldn’t resist.

It did cross my mind, when the committee chair said their loss to us was the main reason SC didn’t get overall #1 seed, that Dawn might rethink the series.

I think we all know what Dawn was saying and it is just another example of a lack of class that would ensure that my grandchildren would never consider playing for her.

So, the Utes and assuming we get through them, the winner of the Syracuse vs. Michigan game. I guess that is the format this year? Still no leaks on a South Carolina game that I have heard, nor a Notre Dame game.

The addition of another Big East game over what it has been sure does not help with the strength of schedule!

Does anyone know how much of our OOC schedule for next year is confirmed? Sorry if someone already posted about this.

With the Big East schedule going to 20 games (don't get me started on how dumb this is ), it'll be important to make the most of our approximately 11 nonconference games.
UConn will be playing 9 non conference games plus a 4 team tournament like the Cayman Classics, here are the known teams that UConn plays next year.

Home games: Tennessee and Ohio State

Road games: Southern Cal and South Florida

Neutral games: Louisville in Ramstein, Germany and Iowa in the Champions Classic at MSG

If we play this season as good or better than last season, which is a distinct possibility, SOS won't mean a thing. UConn peaks in March and April. Just ask UCLA or SoCar.

Actually it's two games added in Big East play. Their are 11 teams and they are playing 10 home and home series so it's 20 games.

Utah is known, as is the Mich/Syracuse winner. That makes 8.

They should play 11 non-conference games along with the 20 conference ones.

So that's the four game tournament that is scheduled this year, that still leaves 3 unknown non conference games.

I would not be surprised after seeing Dawn completely lose it during the championship game! Perhaps a pause until Sarah Srong leaves?:p
With the expansion of the SEC, it has become very difficult to play OOC games anytime except Nov. and Dec.

Olson is currently playing in the WNBA.
Blue Huskie's comment about Lucy Olsen being a senior was made in March before the season was over; I think his/her comment referred to how was Iowa going to replace her contribution...which was huge.

I think next year's Iowa team will be very good at the end of the season, but UConn will see them early on. Hannah Stuelke, Kylie Feuerbach and Taylor McCabe started many to most games last year and will be seniors. 3 freshman that played in almost every game return as well. Portal additions: Chit-Chat Wright from GaTech and Emely Rodriguez from Central Florida; both will be sophs. Emely was offered by the Huskies. Incoming frosh class consists of 3 Top 100 players headed by Addie Deal out of SoCal; Deal will likely start but will probably be developmental years for Journey Houston and 6'5" Layla Hays.

So lots of potential nice pieces for Jan Jensen to try to fit together, but I expect a lot of experimentation in the non-con games to see what works best. Just like this year I feel they'll be vulnerable in December but a tough out in March. Jan will be tested on her roster construction/minutes allocated in 2025-26.

Who would name their daughter Chit-Chat? She must have gotten a lot of ribbing in school.
